Eurovision 2010 - My Top 39 (with comments) [UPDATED]

  • 2010, one of my favorite years of Eurovision! There's so much variety in the songs here and most of them hold up really well; my personal Top 5 here is my favorite of this century. This may be an unpopular opinion but I actually really like the stage design, too; it looks a lot cleaner than 2018's (the other recent one with no screens), and said lack of screens forced the delegations to be more creative with their staging concepts (which countries like Iceland, Romania, and Lithuania did really well with their clever usage of the LEDs). My only big complaint about this year is with the qualifiers, because there are some particularly questionable ones.

first of all your comment about switzerland is funny 😂 and also accurate tbf
and yeah one of the best years of all time, no arguments (the contrast in quality between 10 and 11 is insane) - you've stuck a few of my faves low down (belgium, israel) but again i don't mind that much bcos you've got loads of bangers high up - love finland at 3! that said, can't agree with manga as your winner sadly - i'm a lena stan so yh (both of her songs are my winners, and satellite's my 8th fave of all time), but still wcbts's an absolute banger

first time i'm actually gonna do one of these, here u go :)
#39: fully agreed. had absolutely no business qualifying.
#35: great comment lmao, probably the most forgettable song of the year
#34: again, kind of a guilty pleasure. it's cute, and him and i also look scarily similar :O
#33: nooooo ;-; this is one of my favorites, it's actually quite an earworm and just so cute and endearing
#29: this is my winner 😭 it's just so dramatic and beautiful
#28: this is also one of my favorites but i see where ur coming from with the comment
#27: again, i totally agree. epic sax guy is awesome but there's not much more to it
#26: i actually love this and im not ashamed to say it's in my top 3
#23: was my winner for a long time :P i adore the melodies and aesthetic
#18: i get this confused with nebo sometimes but i think this one's a lot better and probably deserved to qualify, but this is 2010 we're talking about
#17: i used to hate it, but that long note at the end left me absolutely speechless. awesome.
#16: very cute 😺it definitely blends into the background in a year like this but in something like 2011 or 2012 this is definitely top-10 worthy
#12: cute, but too grating and uncompetitive to be a winner in my book
#11: lithuania slays so hard when they don't take themselves seriously. those shiny shorts are the icing on the cake
#08: i wish ireland did more stuff like this instead of cheesy pop songs because this is one of the prettiest entries in this year :)
#07: let's agree to disagree on this one :P
#03: never fails to make me smile, was also my winner for a while
#02: haunting and strange, but the performance is miles ahead of something like poland's and overall i like it a lot
#01: i still prefer their 2008 entry but yes this definitely should've won
sorry for the very long comment, i just love 2010 so much and have a lot to say about it
also, a question: i plan on making esc videos as well some day-- what software do u use for editing?
    great video as always 💙😼

      - Not the only person I know to have Milim as their winner. I just don't see it lol.
      - Agree about Portugal, except they definitely wouldn't have qualified in 2012 considering that they NQed again that year with an even better song.
      - I would kinda like to see Ireland send a ballad again. 2010 is basically the last one.
      - Not that much of a Deli fan but I'll elaborate on that in the 2008 ranking.
I edit my videos with Adobe Premiere and make the thumbnails with PowerPoint (do not underestimate how useful PowerPoint can be as an image editor). My older videos were made with VideoPad, which is much cheaper but still gets the job done lol.

of course maNga's my winner for 2010 as a turkish person but honestly it does leave me with a bitter taste knowwing the lead singer is an erdoğan supporter. the rest of the band aren't though from what i can tell so i can still enjoy it lmao
overall, 2010 is honestly one of the strongest years we've had

    Yay 2010!
-I remember my friend said to Belarus that the guy who is singing “THE SUUUUUUUN” part said that the guy looked tired as hell lol
-Rip the guy from Discord for not finding out the entry that is Switzerland, but oh well, that’s how forgettable it turns out to be…
-I still have a big placement difference between u and me when it came to Belgium, I have it at 13th XD, but I can understand where u are coming from. It’s very laid back
-I actually like the song from Serbia, brings out a mischievous vibe which I can dig lol
-That Sounds Good to Me at 24 surprised me, but since u had guilty pleasures with that song, and some of the songs grew off on you to a lower placement… yyyep.
-When I thought Slovakia was just ok that year you had them pretty high, whereas where you had Slovakia lower I had it WAY higher. LOL
-I just thought that Albania that year was just ok, but I can probably see it as a potential grower tbf
-Sweden rare case when they were good lol, yeah I definitely dig the laid back atmosphere and the genuine vocals of that certain entry
-Sure Norway vocals might’ve been off in the beginning, but I can see it ranking up higher because the off vocals in the beginning somewhat add to the emotion of the song
-I mean yeah lol, I heard in your old vid that the guy from Opa looked mad af XD
-Siren’s humor is subtle, but when u get it, it’s kinda funny lol
    Aaaand…
-Yeah, I’m also one of those people to rank We Could Be the Same at #1 😅
Enjoyable vid from an enjoyable year!

    2010 commentary, ROUND 2
    0:06 Switzerland 2023
0:27 I have only watched this once and I didn’t actually understand what was going on. If the two reactions to a dark song are “it’s creepy and goes too far” and “you can’t tell what’s happening”, you failed.
0:47 I give this the award for best comment ever
1:10 To be fair, it’s hard to come up with anything engaging without LED, that’s probably why so many entries from 2018 aren’t visually engaging either
1:44 I don’t see it. I think the staging is really interesting and creative and the song is really good.
1:52 As I said last time, I would say this has some of the best lyrics of the year. I think they’re well written (although I can’t say for sure as I don’t know Hebrew) and I like the imagery used in them as well.
2:53 I don’t get the appeal behind this. It’s honestly pretty generic. It’s good but I can’t see why it was a favorite to win.
    3:26 HELL YEAH
3:37 Instrumental too, I love the whimsical almost Broadway musical feel.
4:32 Crazy how the jury was the one that tanked this and now Sweden just gets jury points for no reason
5:07 “I’m honestly surprised it didn’t qualify” I mean the jury is almost always the fun police so
6:37 *JURY STOP TANKING GOOD SONGS CHALLENGE (IMPOSSIBLE)*
Aaand that’s it! I can’t wait for next video to see you talk about the greatest Eurovision song of all time 🎉 (also I wrote this in a rush so sorry for any weird things I might’ve left in)

      - Don't like Watergun at all but I wouldn't call it the worst qualifier of all time. The only qualifier that I think even remotely approaches being as bad as Butterflies (1.5/10) is Lonely Planet (2.0/10). I also have Don't Come Easy, What If We, and Run with the Lions as 2/10s because Good Lord those songs are boring.
      - Legenda is a song about an old folk tale in which a guy murders a woman that he was obsessed with because she rejected him. The performance makes a bit more sense with this in mind. Still don't get the apples tho
      - Completely disagree that it's hard to be engaging without screens. This year and 2018 both have a lot of great-looking performances.
      - Horehronie is a prime example of a song being underrated in the contest but overrated by fans. Complice in 2008 is the other big one.
      - True about Lithuania since they would've qualified if it was televote-only.
Like your Top 5 a lot.

    38. Latvia
    Bad
    37. Belarus
Yeah its still a mytery how this.... qualified and even more how Georgia gave it 12 Pts.
    36. Malta
    Meh
    35. UK
The studio version of this one has charme, but someone should have teached those backing vocalists at least a bit of singing. They are Terrible, im sorry.
    34. Croatia
    Okay
    33. Finland
    32. Sweden
    31. Armenia
    Good
    30. Denmark
    29. Slovenia
A bit messy, but its not bad in any way
    28. Ukraine
    27. France
    Very Good
    26. North Macedonia
    25. Iceland
    24. Spain

    Great
    21. Poland
    20. Portugal
    19. Ireland

    Amazing
    16. Russia
If its serious or not, I don´t care. This entry is just somehow iconic
    15. Romania
    14. Bulgaria
It could have been even higher with the studio version, and in Bulgarian only.
    13. Lithuania
    12. Belgium
    11. Greece
    10. Cyprus
    9. Germany
    Masterpieces/My Favourites
    8. Moldova
    7. Bosnia-H.
    6. Estonia
This is a Masterpiece and should easily have qualified. Just such a mysthic and cool song
    5. Slovakia
    4. Israel
Hits me so hard everytime, and I love his voice so much
    3. Turkey
I know It doesn´t really align with my usual taste this is only 3rd :D. Nevertheless it is among my alltime Favourites and by far the best Turkish entry of the 21st century. Absolute Perfection of and Awesome hard rock song.
    2. Georgia
Year of me loving Ballads. I always found this one so beautiful. And I have to agree with you, the performance was stunning.
    1. Azerbaijan
You may already know it, this my 2nd of alltime. I always had such a strong connection to it. This is my pick for the most powerful and most emotionally hitting eurovisione entry. It always fully gets me in its spell, and especially the last Bridge/Chorus is one of the most intense moments in any songs for me.

-there's something very funny about having a group called 3+2 then adding an extra person

Sometimes nothing is so baffling is someone else taste. So here's my verdict on my issues with yours - ok i hated Pete Waterman and most of this songs before he got his grubby mits on Eurovision but for me That Sounds Good To Me has to be one of the most misnamed songs ever so it being significantly above Me and My Guitar and Milim is an epic fail of taste. Also i don't understand how if you're after a fun song than the French song isn't higher. Well done for being one of the few people to acknowledge how cheesy and basic In A Moment Like This is though or not for it STILL being above Me and My Guitar wtf. Also chops for recognising Drip Drop is tedious. I'm not a fan of EDM so I've never understood why the fandom wets its collective pants over Iceland - very very ordinary song in my book so i guess another misnomered song. Ive never liked Shine either - painfully bog standard and cliched song in my book. Her performance is good but its not enough for me to like this - i hate that this is Georgia's most successful entry. I love that Siren and We Could Be The Same are your top two and that you are not afraid to go against received wisdom even if in some ways I think you couldn't be more wrong.
