I’m so pleased you decided to patch your top 😊 I have embraced mending along with sewing, and I have pieced fabrics together all over the place in order to get projects squeezed out of limited fabric, and I have to say - no one ever notices, and they CERTAINLY don’t care 😄 It has also allowed me to retrofit additional fabric where it’s been needed by my body when I haven’t made a toile or understood what adjustments I’ve needed to make to a pattern. And I have saved a number of gorgeous items as a result 😍
It’s sounds as if you’ve developed a useful skill set with your mending and adjustments. Slowing building my confidence in those areas. I’m certainly on the mending before binning train. Just need to find more time to tackle the growing pile 🤣
Just came across your channel. Enjoy it and subscribed. Regarding the Day of the Dead fabric. Not sure as an Aussie how much you know about the Day of the Dead. It is a religious holiday during which deceased loved ones are remembered and honored. It is based on customs of indigenous people and Catholics in Mexico, and is also observed by many Latinos in the US. As long as it not used for a costume and is used with respect for it's meaning, any type of top, skirt or dress should be fine.
Well said
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. It means a lot to me ☺️ Fully agree with your comment. I was fortunate enough to live in the US when I was younger and learnt a lot about the Latino culture from my friends there and in my travels since. This fabric will certainly be made into a lovely top I can wear when enjoying the company of my loved ones ☺️
I love your drapey top. It looks great on you. I haven’t burned a hole in a new make but I was taking trousers up for my sister and melted them at the hem. I managed to fix it enough that I didn’t tell her and she never noticed! Phew.😂
Just found your channel. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺. Loved your video
Virtual high five for a fellow Aussie. Thanks for watching!
If possible, please show a pic of the patterns you refer to. Not everyone is versed in Indie patterns by name. Enjoyed your blog.
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. Agree that I need to do better at showing the patterns… hopefully I’ll get that done gout going forward ☺️

Make a long cardigan with that sheer cotton lawn.
I love the green gingham blouse.
Oooh… long cardigan….over a vest and denim shorts for summer! I like it!!
Love makes and fab fabrics! Love your vlogging style x
Thanks Bec! Appreciate your comments. Always inspired by all the other wonderful sewists I watch on CZcams (like yourself) so having putting my own stuff out there.
I have not seen a cotton lawn that sheer either. Love the selfie blouse. Normally I am not a bell sleeve girl, but you may have changed my mind after seeing your Effie.
You should! Live that swishy sleeve Effie life! Going to think hard what that lawn should become. It’s so lovely ☺️
A second fab vlog! I came over from Becs channel and glad I did! ❤️ I love your pattern and fabric suggestions/choices ❤️❤️
Bec is cool! Thanks for following up on the recommendation, it means a lot 😊
HI Kate, It's so annoying to burn something while pressing. I would embroider over the burns but if it doesn't bother you, I'd leave it alone. Life's too short. I'm enjoying your content and you are a natural vlogger.
I have had the embroidery threads at the ready but so think I’ve got away with it. If someone. I’ve decided that if someone notices it will just be a funny story! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment ☺️
The green fabric with flowers is stunning! ❤
It really is! I can’t wait to see it up into something beautiful. Soon! … and thanks for watching! ☺️
Hi Kate, just found your channel and really enjoyed your vlog 😊 I feel for you with the surprise poly cotton fabric but you did a great job patching it up. I've got the dreaded shine on knit fabrics before from pressing, so frustrating. Lovely makes ❤
Thanks for watching! I’ve been successfully ruining poly my whole life before I got to seeing them. Those shop bought ones even have a label on them telling me what to do and I still stuff it up!!! 🤣
Great video Becs sent me and I have subscribed. Your blue dragons are divine.❤
Woohoo! Thank you so much. Aren’t the dragons beautiful! I can wait to make them up into something… and soon! 😁
Hi Kate lovely to follow another Aussie girl ,lucky girl being able to visit all the fabric stores ,how long have you lived in England would to visit it one day…….Robyn NQ tropics Australia xx
Thanks for watching, Robyn and NQ tropics for the win! Not been that far north yet. My folks get up there every other year so might have to tag along on one of their trips some time. Been in the UK 18 years now my Australia time is always precious. Fabrics stores over here are definitely great but sometimes Spotlight is just the best (might be being sentimental… but I don’t care!)
Very nice makes…..😊🇦🇺
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi I’ve just found your channel really enjoyed your vlog and seeing your fabric buys and makes 🤗 looking forward to following your sewing journey 🥰
Thanks for watching, Lynne! I’m excited to see where my journey goes too so good to have you along. It could be a wild ride!
I was gonna make a break in my sewing as I am changing sizes now after having a baby and everything is getting too roomy, but your videos making me ichy to do some sewing now!! Beautiful makes and your personality is fantastic, so I'm staying here 😊😊😊 looking forward to your next projects 😊
Thank you! Have a little dabble in some sewing if you have the energy and give that itch a scratch. I did a lot of knitting when mu daughter was a bub. I found the mental break much needed 😊
HI Kate, thanks for a other great video. I lovec hearing about your makes, even the horror story of burning the new Style Arc top. A good save, well done on the patching. Yes, i have messed with too much heat in the pressing of garments. Its a " trap for young players" isnt it. ❤❤
Hehe.. trap for old ones too! I’ve been melting my polyester clothes ever since I’ve been old enough to use an iron. I think they really need to give you a licence to use that thing 😜
Just found you, and I enjoyed this podcast. I’ve subscribed! I love your Donny shirt in that fabric. Ruby Star Society fabrics are some of my favourites. For the Day of the Dead fabric, what about the Stevie top by Tilly and the Buttons. I’ve made several and they look great tucked in. I made the mistake once and bought polyester thinking it was a heavy viscose twill. I made the Pietra pants with it…….total nightmare…..never again!!
Thanks for watching. Good idea about the Stevie shirt. I’ll take a look! Sorry to hear about your ‘twill’ pants… I have some mystery fabric that’s been given to me (no idea what it is) so will be a fun adventure seeing if I end up using that the right way 😜
Yay! I've just got the blue dragons fabric - I love it! Haven't decided yet what to make from it but - dragons!!!
I haven't burnt a hole but I tried to make a blouse (I've returned to sewing after a very long gap) with a beautiful viscose Challis - let's just say I misread the instructions and tried to overlock around a very sharp v-neck. I have to say it didn't go well!
Dragons and overlocker mishaps…. Are you me??!! These stories make me feel better about my journey… we are never really alone on our travels! Thanks so much for watching 💕
I’ve got the same dragon fabric and I also want to make a Summer in New York dress (I’ve made 3 and love them all) ❤
Great minds think alike! Im pretty certain I will have multiple Summer In New Yorks made up by the end of year 🤣 Thanks for watching!
really enjoyed your vlog. i fancy having a go at the effie top myself, thank you
Thanks so much! Give the Effie a go… a lovely easy make 😊
Cute Effie top, love that one! I have the McCall's 8144 which ive been wanting to make for ages. Yours look lovely, love the metallic fabric
Thanks so much! 😊 definitely dive into that M8144 as it’s so versatile and different depending on what knit you choose.
Great new vlogging, definitely a safari shirt out of the safari fabric . You could use the Donny and change up the pocket, add epaulettes and cuffs to the sleeves.
I like it! We need more epaulettes in the world 😁
Loved your vlogging
Thank you! Keep watching…there will be more 😊
Hi Kate, just found your channel, your doing a great job you sound like a pro. I have looked for the dragon fabric but cannot find it do you know the designers name please x
Thanks, Norma. The dragon fabric is actually a deadstock from Rainbow fabrics so I suspect it has sold out, especially on the back of the Stitch festival. Keep an eye on their website though as you might find some other treasure pop up 😊
When I hear “cotton lawn” I think of handmade lingerie. Like from about 1850.
I think of my backyard covered in Betsy Liberty print. Funny how our brains work 😜
Are you sure you are new to vlogging? You are so good at it. I’m pretty sure you must have some kind of media or PR background? Loving those fabrics! Happy sewing 🧵 😊 🧵
This is all entirely new to me but something many people have suggested I try so jumped in feet first. All the lovely comments have been such a boost so appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment ☺️
