    • @awesome9174
      @awesome9174 Před 5 lety +37

      That's because not every game uses Ray tracing the same. Minecraft is using Ray tracing for pretty much everything involving light.

      @@awesome9174 not only that but games nowdays fake the lightining pretty well that's why we don't see a big difference.

    • @cayosantana6237
      @cayosantana6237 Před 5 lety +19

      There are multiple reasons for that. First, most people who do not work with graphics tend to not realize the gross fakeness of everything that the current rasterization methods try to emulate. Second, most current RTX games only use ray-tracing for some parts of the rendering pipeline. Battlefield uses it to render reflections, Metro for global illumination, some games use it for shadows, but none of these games do the whole rendering through ray-tracing. A full ray-traced rendering is called path tracing, and currently only Quake II RTX, and soon Minecraft RTX, are the games which implement it.

    "It looks like its exaggerated, but it's not ... Somehow, when I kept switching RTX off, in contrast, it looked much flatter than how my mind remembered Minecraft looking."
    The default game looks flatter than you remember, because it is. To make it looks more impressive, they set the graphics to low, so there's no GI or smooth lighting on default Minecraft, making it look significantly worse than it normally does. Which is a shame, because they really didn't need to do that, the difference is already impressive enough.

I value smoothness more than graphical quality. Once games can get around 100 fps with rtx on is when I'll use it. I have a 2080 which is fast but I'd argue in some of these games you want a 2080ti

It simply insane and beautiful. Just wish a perhaps a less intensive version of this was being worked on for the java version for mod use alongside it. Just imagine playing with alongside a internally lit Extreme Reactor with cyrotheum in it and how it'd look against marble flooring.... omg. Or the draconic reactor changing the light as it heats up. RTX Minecraft demonstrates the power of ray tracing for those with no imagination. Avoiding a dropped frame or running at 90 fps without ray tracing over running at 45 fps with ray tracing and more dropped frames is like preferring listening to a computer play a Beethoven piano sonata rather than a professional pianist because the computer never miss-fingers a note. Yes, in most of early implementations, ray tracing effects are a bit subtle, but they are still less subtle and more consequential than the difference in frame rates unless you've spent years training yourself to ignore the image quality problems in games and focus on frame rate effects.

    Great content as always, Massive. Unfortunately, just like with DX11, We won't be seeing significant industry adoption of RTX until console manufactures make the jump. Hopefully by then RTX GPUs are $250. I can't justify early adoption's high price of entry for 7 or so games. Keep up the good work, Massive. :)
