  • Should architecture schools still be enforcing tracing paper works for final presentation and what better options do we have?

    Sir you're absolutely right, the tracing papers aren't used the same way as they were used before, it's also time consuming an inefficient in the real world practice of Architecture. The world has changed and we shouldn't be left behind.

    I mean at some point learning how to use type writers was mandatory in many secondary schools...time comes with change and refusing to change only holds individuals and the society back.

    Interesting, I never knew overlaying the tracing sheet on drawings could be used to make corrections.
    Thank you sir.
    Doing a survey after my IT, I know alot of students who suffered greatly with the demand on projects to be delivered with BIM softwares.
    I believe integrating both hand drawings & computer based drawings better prepares the student for the outside world, the market demand (which is constantly evolving, now AI has come to stay, VR will soon be as close to us as AI is)
    And would considerably broaden the scope of research done.
    There will always be cons 😅, but the advantage still remains students are prepared to meet the world of Architecture today, which isn't the same as that a decade ago.

    I'm sorry to say this but "if we really pretend like technology doesn't exist," then we'll keep producing the same brands of architects that no firm we'll be proud to employ.

      The current situation has it's goals set at ensuring we understand the basics to which design solutions are provided which is necessary. But the consequences far outweigh the benefits.
      By the time we start learning how to effectively use BIM, 3d printers and Visualization softwares, the world will be at a stage of perfectly implementing AI solutions to solve problems.
      Where does that leave us?
      Behind again

      Why not have the preliminary drawings traced and the main works printed.
      It's a fact that being proficient in hand graphics and knowing a little bit about CAD and BIM won't get you a good job in the real world. Many universities have some of this fault since they don't focus sufficiently on how students advance in the technological field of architecture.
      Imagine granting only one credit unit for a course in Computer Aided Design. Isn't that pitiful?
      They truly don't want students to grow which is why they ought to have looked into this long ago.

    The "Working backwards" part hit me like a bomb... it's sad that these students don't even realize how much harm they are doing to their career
    Makes me wonder who really is to blame. I think if the design process is taught properly, and the students are allowed to explore creative ideas with proper mentoring, then they would come out useful to the architecture community worldwide no matter what medium they learned with, tracing paper or technology.
    I'm for team technology though 😂
    Thank you sir!

    And another misconception is people tagging low quality architecture to use of technology... which are two separate things

    like i have sooooo much to say about this particular topic because so much is happening in our schools that really isn't necessary and it's sad because its probably never going to stop. you're not even making students hard working, you're just teaching them to work smarter and find better ways to not get caught, and killing their passion for architecture in the process.

    We do too much. Spend so much time manually inking preliminary pages like it's not the same for everyone, which in turn gives us less time to focus on the actual design. Then we do too little because we spent valuable time choosing what image to draw in our literature review that our actual design is just depressingly basic because we run out of time to ink and model anything better.

    Tracing paper is used nowhere and is requested in no man's land after school. In my opinion, it's a killer of productivity level.

    Yes, the research would be important especially for Nigerian Architecture schools. I hope it will be published in a format and platform that most people concerned with the field will access it. You spoke the truth 💯😂. I'm an Architecture student and spend 75% of my productive time worrying over how to transmit my drawings to paper. Thank you for this.

    like because of how time consuming architecture is as a course, there's little to no time to study stuff that applies outside whatever is required of you in school. Lecturers actually need to be more compassionate on students fr.

    Nigerian universities just glorify suffering. like the point of us being the next generation is so we can ACTUALLY ADVANCE AND STAY ABREAST WITH WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE WORLD. not so we can suffer like you suffered in school. hello ??

  • @user-re1jb2wo1y
    @user-re1jb2wo1y Před 7 měsíci +2

    design is 4/6 units and computer is 1?? but no one is going to ask you for your tracing sheets when you go for IT. I'm not saying ink work should be abolished, I'm just saying the world is evolving and our priorities should be shifting along with it.

  • @chibuzordavid4221

    Not to beat around the bush.....
    Tracing paper has no used in practice of Architecture as computer and printers are more accurate...
    🚩 Tracing Papers is Useless🚩and not to be considered at all‼️

  • @user-re1jb2wo1y
    @user-re1jb2wo1y Před 7 měsíci +1

    haven't started watching but I think it's crazy that we're giving so much emphasis to ink and pencil work and having little to no actual emphasis on computer work. we always have to put in that effort to learn on our own (despite having little time) and then we go outside and we're basically useless to firms because we're okay with ink work but have to be taught almost from the basics about computers and it starts to look like we're not serious about our life/career
