The focus of this Gr 12 Tourism lesson 1 on Tourism Attractions is:
1.The difference between a tourist attraction and an icon
2. Reasons why specific tourism attractions and/or physical features are regarded as icons. The economic significance of icons for a country/area
3. The icons listed below:
• Australia: Sydney Opera House, Ayers Rock/Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park
• Brazil: The Statue of Christ the Redeemer or Corcovado (Rio de Janeiro)
• Canada: Niagara Falls
• Italy: Colosseum (Rome), Leaning Tower of Pisa (Piazza del Duomo), Venice, Vatican City
