    In this satisfying video, the guys take you through the whole process of BUILDING A PORCH FROM START TO FINISH. Each stage of how to build a brick porch is covered and Pete starts off by explaining how to prepare concrete foundation for porch. Using a laser level he sets the depth for pouring concrete footing. Pete mixes a 5in1 concrete mix and the explains how to use a concrete vibe to level and disperse air from concrete pour. Tony runs through the plans using 7 newton concrete blocks, engineering bricks and old blue bricks. Alex is in action setting out the blockwork and showing how to lay blocks, then how to fix a wall starter kit, before laying ytong blocks. Alex sets up his new bricklaying corner profiles and fills the cavity with kingspan kooltherm insulation. Pete is on the brick saw and gives you a quick rundown on its performance. Alex fits the cavity wall steel lintel over the doorway so Pete can fit the wall plate in preparation for the roof rafters. Tony explains the roof design and how the roof jacks and roof hip will work. After removing brickwork the 2 new RSJ steel beam goes in and the rest of the porch roof rafters go on and so over to Will. The whole process of how to tile a roof is seen from laying roof felt, fixing roof lath, laying roof tiles and finally the roof step flashing. Now you have seen all the bricklaying and roofing the final part is to show you how to fit a composite front door and there you have it, a good example of a DIY porch for your next project!
    PLEASE NOTE: we’ll endeavour to answer questions and comments as soon as possible depending on our work schedules.

    It’s just a genuine pleasure to see tradesmen that take this much pride in their work and not just wanting to chip off early or cut corners.

    I'm sure things were done correctly before the video began but viewers should be aware that excavations within three metres of a neighbouring property, to a level lower than their existing foundations, is notifiable under the Party Wall etc Act 1996. This appears to be the case in for the project shown. Also, digging a trench parallel to and close to the external walls of one or more buildings, to a depth significantly lower than the existing foundations, can be very dangerous with the real possibility of structural collapse. The foundation for this new Porch structure only passed between the buildings for a short length, so this may not have been a problem (or trench propping may have been used) but excavation any further between these buildings would need a specially engineered approach. If in doubt, consult a Chartered Structural Engineer and use their design in your Party Wall Act notice.

    • @amyloueliza
      @amyloueliza Před 16 dny

      Yes, I totally agree. I'm not a builder so don't deem to know any better. However I am very surprised you are allowed to build so close to the neighbouring property. You would not get away with that in Scotland. The space between the two properties has to be a specific distance. Even from a fire point of view. The work though is tremendous. The attention to detail is fabulous. Skill.

    Really beneficial to tape the insulation, as especially with the 20mm air gap, if there is any air movement through the slab joints then, it's effectively not there!
