Way to trust your son and also give him some responsibility! I'm sure lots of people will freak out that you trusted him. My father had me doing all kinds of things that are "unsafe" now, he just made sure I listened and was safe.
I one time said when I start making enough money I will pay someone to work on my cars. Well, I make enough now but when I hear the price to change brakes, or most recently motor mounts ($600) I do it myself. lol I guess I am still cheap even though I don't have to be.

Changing the starter in an 09 grand cherokee with AWD takes 20 minutes if you put the driver's side front tire on the ramp, leave the other side on the ground. This shifts the engine weight to the passenger side of the car and gives you that 1/4" to 3/8" needed to slide the starter out from the front or rear, your choice. You don't need to drop the manifold or the driveshaft or remove the wheel and wheel well like others recommend on YT.

Sam, in 2004 I replaced the water pump On a 92 Jeep Cherokee, in NJ, in November. 2 days before a major snowstorm hit. I had to remove ( then replace) the Serpentine belt as well, but for that I ended up having to get my trucker friend to help because I didn't have the strength. That was THE LAST car I mechanically worked on. I was frozen, my hands, and face were frostbitten and the damn tools were so cold, they burned. Now, I pay mechanics, who have lifts, hydraulics and better tools then I....and besides, now I am too damn OLD!! Good Job!

My son just did the same job in March on his 2005 Jeep. He ended up removing left front wheel and well liner and bringing out the side as well. He did not know what to expect on pulling the driveshaft so wanted to avoid the possibility of damage to it. I see no advantage in moving the starter motor to the driver side. Liked the idea of the winch cable.

Hubs came and in 20 minutes, in my work parking lot, replaced the starter. I feel for you! I truly do. The Dodge went to the scrapyard for $103! We now have matching year 2001, Tahoes and we love them. Funny, mine is white and his is a navy blue, both 2001 and both made in Arlington TX bought 3 years apart. Yes, some things are best left to paid help! All 4 starters were but at least one was still under warranty!

I just wanna say my favorite part of this video is seeing a man with his boys involving them even if it’s just helping with tools, instead of telling them to go find something else to do. Your a great father & I wanted to let you know that. Even if you already know it, it’s still nice to hear it sometimes. Your boys don’t know what they have. 😍❤About the video? It’s a piece of cake to get that out of there (not to rub it in), but being a petite woman with small hands definitely has its perks working on my own vehicle. I just wanted to see if anyone found any easier ways to get it out without removing the drive shaft so I do my research before starting anything. My heater core went out once & I was told I was gonna have to tear apart my whole entire dash to change it cause of the metal braces? Umm yeah nope, I saw a man just cut the braces & put them back together with bolts. Took me 30 minutes verses 3-5 hours. Thank you man!! I appreciate people like you!!😊

Cool video. Praying this isn't whats going on right now with my 05 GC. Running tests tomorrow... it already needs a starter flex plate replacement (definitely not happening!), drive shaft replacement, ABS sensor replacement, MAF sensor, bad circuit in mirror, etc. I'm gonna take a leaf out of your book, laugh, and just get at it.

I must have an abnormally tall head. I cant get my head far enough up in the fenderwell to see more than the very top of the starter. Driveshaft coming out tomorrow. Fortunately i have an impact.

Oh Sam, for some reason it has come to my mind that you are truly brilliant sometimes!!!! (I made it rhyme on accident.) Hey, I tried to write in that special verbose/soliloquy fashion you speak, & that's what I could come up with. The real point is.... Great idea to pull the jeep backwards onto the stands. Great work on the starter, I am so sorry it was a bear to get done. Take care & God Bless.

While you were laying on the ground I think I saw the boys dragging a pallet into their fort. 😁 They will miss those barrels when you move them into the green house😞

I've had 3 of those jeeps and they are junk after the 95 model I've had the 4.0 you know that best motor in the world, Stopped at a light when it turned green I gave it gas and peck peck to Knock Knock and then a rod went through the side of the block just backing it off a rollback.Less than 100.000 miles and serviced every 3 to 3.5K miles it was took care of . One next trans started slipping and about a 100 miles it was done and a auto trans..Next one is setting outside now don't have a clue, Drove to the PC store and its about 10 miles trip ran great going went in for 10 min. came out no start.Got a guy to jump it off and it ran like crap and I've been so ticked about it.It ran like a 3 cylinder to get it home.Parked it , started looking for a car and found a Great 08 VW Jetta 5 cyl. in Asheville Nc.Im in Va.bordering Tenn. & Nc. and the gas mileage is incredible after putting 50 bucks in a Jeep for so long. But if anybody has any knowledge of my problem please email me..@ pclove151@gmail.com I worked in a garage most of my life and always had the worst Vehicle ever because I don't like doing it anymore ..I specialized in alignments and did really get into it because I like math and angles.I would be happy if I could it figured out fast and would make it worth your time or sell it to you at half price. Its really a great looking Jeep and Im the 2nd owner and its got the small V8 Great sound system because they do that for the Grand Cherokee .My name is -David and if you email me just put jeep in the subject and its pclove151@gmail.com..Come get it as is for a deal...Thank you all
