I have had an ugly stick rod since I was 13 years old. Im 35 now. Still catching fish with it. Nothing against st croix at all, but ive broken 3 of them
Same broke 2 of the walleye tournaments had a triumph in a similar size first it’s still going though but the expencive st croix rods snap like toothpicks and I am sick of it I babied them too they snap like nothing super sensitive but break so easily triumph series is I think durable enough tho
I've tried fishing all day with both, and the St. Croix Triumph is much easier on the wrist! Nothing against Ugly Stik. They're practically ulindestructible and great for live and cut bait fishing. But if youre going to be lure fishing for extended periods, or doing any finesse fishing, you get what you pay for. A high quality lightweight, well-balanced graphite rod like a St. Croix makes it almost effortless.
If a rod is capable of catching lots of fish i do not really worry about how heavy or light a rod is . Its what it can do that matters , this light weight trend is just marketing hype . If you have arthritis i can understand going for lighter rods .
St. Criox makes great rods. Very light. Very sensitive. Ugly Stik rods are incredibly durable. If I’m flipping on a light bite trying to win a tournament, I’d rather have a St. Croix. If I’m out throwing swim baits for big smallmouth, hybrid, or striper, I’m perfectly fine with an Ugly Stik. I have two elites. A 7’ MH and an 8’6” H. They are great rods. Yes, they’re a little heavy. But I don’t worry about breaking one. And I haven’t.
Ugly stick is not hollow inside, and it's the most reliable rod in the history of fishing. Yes, it's heavy, but it saved my ass so many times (as a backup rod). A lot of cheap "superlight" rods have very thin walls and hollow inside - makes them very easy to break. Reliable light rods are very expensive (St Croix Legend) - made of high quality enhanced material with titamium guides.
Ok first off weight of rod what are we a bunch of girls. I use a 5 pound drill all day long. 😆.lets do durability and quality test. On both .its how strong a rod is and how long it will last.I would never buy a 200 dollar rod when a 40 dollar one better. You can buy 5 rods for same price and have excuse to buy 5 more reels 😆
Unfortunately you have to buy a new Ugly every year if using braided line... because their guides are terrible and groove bad. Believe me, I've had a few. I have St. Croix's to the balance is price and rod Breaking vs strength.cant use a rod with grooved guides that kill your line. Or it's broken. I never worried about weight like you said.
@@shawnwhalen8314 1 year heavy fishing on the ugly is more than enough good deal than my croix first use got snagged and broke. Could have claimed a warranty replacement but I was so mad I just stomped on and crushed it completely.
@@wsantalitz7785 I get it believe me I've had alot of fishing rods. Remember you Can't use your rod to unstick a snag....most will break! You pull straight back using the reel as the force point...even this can be trouble. Wrap your line around a stick and use the stick as leverage. Do you buy 2 or 3 ugly Sticks...or 1 St.Criox? I am using a St.Croix Mojo Bass Glass fiberglass rod...and I really like it for cranks and topwater...and it's pretty durable. I used Ugly for years got tired replacing them because of the New guides....they sucked. I've broken a St.Croix also (Premier), so I know the pain! Fish On!
Depends on what you’re fishing for, if you’re fishing with big swimbaits, sure the Ugly Stik is better, but if you’re finesse fishing the St. Croix is much better, I’ve had cheap rods and semi expensive, most cheap ones are durable but have no sensitivity at all. Also fit and finish is another part of the price, the St. Croix rods are much nicer.
Ugly Sticks have the worst guides in the business now. If you use braid...they are junk. Mine would only last a year with braid before the guides would groove bad. Your St.Croix is not going to do that... better guides. And I have broken an Ugly Stick Elite before....and the St.Croix will definitely break, but it more sensitive.Thats why the Ugly Is $40-50 And the St.Croix is twice the price.

Maybe a comparison between the triumph and the uglystick carbon would be closer?
Ugly stick is the AK of the fishing world
Ugly stick is durable it doesn’t have the best feel but I will not break
St.croix is on another level
I’ve broke two st croixs on small bass..never broke an ugly stik
wait did he just say the ugly stick medium heavy was heavy and the st Croix light was light
Might confused you, but what I am comparing is ugly stick light and st croix light, I mentioned in the video
@@zhew3023 didnt hear the ugly stick light just hear the elite and u say heavy. if u said it then my bad
I love fishing and ping pong too

Price difference?
Exactly doubled price, so it's not apple to apple comparison, it's apple to orange.
@@zhew3023 I must admit that the elite is an absolute steal at its price range.
Bro I'm inden big fan MRP inden please please
2.85 oz is nothing , the St Croix is way to go no doobs !
