    To Randy Moss,
    You are the greatest, most talented WR ever, Period. There are many True Moss Fans like me who had the honor of watching your entire career. The pure speed, hands, and leaping ability you possessed were unmatched and may never be seen again. The media never understood you, or gave you the credit you deserve. However, you are a living legend, & can't wait till you get some vindication when you enter HOF.

      Kobe Hannible all of Randy's QB's agreed that you just had to put the ball in the vicinity and Randy was coming down with it. That's incredible WR talent and what you might call making your teammates better. I agree with most that Rice had the greatest career of any WR and I am a Rice fan. But if I could only pick one for my team, I'd pick Randy because I know every throw has a shot even with a mediocre QB. We saw what Randy did with Culpepper early in his career and we saw what he did with Brady later in his career after he was supposedly washed up. He's #2 in most stats without the supporting cast. Where would he be if he had Rice's supporting cast throughout his career?

    The sad part about Moss was that he was so good that no offensive coordinator knew how to use him correctly. Moss changed the number of players each team had. When he was on the field, his team had 11 players and the other team had only 9 or 10. If they had only changed their offensive set to a double tight end set with two backs behind the QB and Moss split to the wide side of the field, his team could never have lost a game.

      No, I'm someone who has actually seen him play. Montana's entire reputation is based on being "clutch," not on his actual passing ability. He never even once threw for 4,000 yards in a season, despite having Jerry Rice half his tenure. Rice was lighting it up with Mike Moroski and Jeff Kemp at QB. Meanwhile, Montana went to Kansas City and played bus driver for a defensive football team. He is one of the most overrated athletes in history.

      @EmceeNolan Před 10 lety

      Rice did not run a 4.71 40 time. That's complete BS. They didn't have official 40 times back then, and what a guy ran depended on the scout holding the stopwatch, but not a single scout had him at 4.71. The slowest anyone had him was in the 4.6 range. Gil Brandt had him at 4.4. Rice was explosive. There's a reason he averaged 18+ yards/catch all but one year in the 1980s (and 16.6 in the year of the exception).

And what i know about Moss is that his Go-Routes were/are second to none and *ANY* cornerback would have serious trouble with him running stride-for-stride on his go-routes(9 routes) and his stop-and-go routes, sh*t probably with his post routes as well......but on the other hand( just assuming now since i know Blount's physical measurements, 40 time, and his mental approach to football) he would have his way with Moss on slants, curls, out-routes, in-routes, and run blocks since there's a 25 lbs weight difference and a much different toughness level between the two. Fun debate! Moss was great especially early in games and when his running backs were doing good( easy play action T.D.) Now did Blount have good safety help, if yes then he's probably just beat the hell outta Moss, take his mojo out early and it's a different Moss( why Chris Carter stayed in his face on the sidelines trying to keep him motivated).

    Great collection of catches, angles, quotes! He SHOULD be a first ballot HOFer. Greatest pure, long-ball, catching machine in history. Yes, he had an attitude and took some plays off, but he also had some amazing, sacrifical blocks which won games. Like all geniuses, he was complicated. But he was always loved by teammates. Bill Belichick, arguably the greatest coach in history, sings his praises to this day - not only regarding his raw athletic talent, but also his mind - the way he saw the field, the player match-ups. Like all great players, he had a raw intuition about how to play the game.

What moss did was something no other receiver has ever done in terms of making a 120 yard game drastically close in. The man is a constant threat destroying cbs even in his later years which proved his talent far exceeded his athleticism. Culpepper missed five games in 2001. Todd Bouman started three of those games and inept third-stringer Spergon Wynn two. In the three games Todd Bouman started, Randy Moss had 144 yards against Pittsburgh, 158 against Tennessee and 144 against Detroit. He topped 86 yards in only one other game all season. Todd Bouman threw for 791 yards in those three games and 1,114 the rest of his career.
      In 2003, Gus Frerotte played 2 1/2 games when Culpepper was injured and threw for 790 yards with a 118.1 passer rating and led the Vikings, who were 5-8 with Culpepper that year, to three straight wins. In Frerotte's two starts, Randy Moss had five touchdowns and 253 yards. Frerotte's first Minnesota start was against San Francisco, when Moss had 172 yards and three TDs. Terrell Owens had 55 yards in that game and whined afterward that if he had a quarterback like Moss, he's put up stats like Moss. Owens was playing with four-time Pro Bowler Jeff Garcia. Moss with a journeyman backup.
      In 2005, Moss topped 1,000 yards with Oakland, as Kerry Collins resurrected his career throwing to Moss.
      In 2007, Moss topped 1,000 yards with Matt Cassel.
      In 2006 and 2008, his only two full years with Tom Brady, Randy Moss led the NFL in touchdowns both seasons, averaging 18 touchdowns and almost 1,400 yards.
      Randy Moss is the greatest deep threat in the history of the NFL, yet in his long career, Cunningham, George, Bouman and Frerotte were the only ones to treat him as such and throw the ball to him deep and often. The only truly great quarterback he ever played with, Tom Brady, is a dinker-and-dunker who always threw more often to Wes Welker than to Moss even when Moss was breaking the single-season touchdown record.
      The biggest issue for Randy Moss has not been playing when he wants to play, but rather playing for a team that knows how to use him right. That basically stopped after his second NFL season. I don't think any great NFL player has ever been more misused than Randy Moss since the Lions would take Barry Sanders out on third down and almost never ran the greatest breakaway threat since Gale Sayers on third-and-long.
      I plagiarized from Matt Trowbridge, a sports editor from Chicago.

    Randy was the most talented athlete at the WR position. However, to be the GOAT requires other skills. Never say die attitude, commitment to excellence, humility, willingness to sacrifice for your teammates in order that the team succeeds. These are the skills Randy could not display every day. Randy took games off, sat out plays on the sideline and refused to play with Tom Brady because he wanted more money, and was eventually kicked out of New England. Jerry Rice is the GOAT because he showed what you can achieve if you work the hardest, sacrifice for the team, play every down like it was your last, even when you are not the fastest, the tallest, the one that can jump the highest etc.

      Lots of what you said is spot on. BUT.. you are a moron about what transpired in NE!!! Belichick punished him for being late to practice in a blizzard - just as he did ALL 7(?) guys who were late that day. Well Randy had to be a prima dona about it. Kinda saying; "Do you know who I am?" And Bill doesn't allow that crap with ANYONE. It's why he is so successful. It's about THE TEAM. Anyway, Bill stuck to his guns as Randy festered and stewed and made it worse. And once again; just as in Oakland, Randy sat sulking on the bench when he wasn't being effective - because he was playing VERY lazily. He not only didn't run hard, but he wasn't even trying to defend passes that he let get out in front of him.. or that he 'over-shot'. The more this went on, the more bill benched him. Then Randy tried to make it about his contract; being re-signed, and with a big payday and all. .. Of course any NE fan also noticed that after it was too late, Moss was BEGGING Bill to take him back as he pretty much admitted it was all his fault. He kept saying NE is Heaven, Bill is the best coach ever. And TomEffinBrady is the best QB in the history of football. And we all sighed; what could have been if he hadn't gone all freako on us. .. And I agree with you; he COULD HAVE BEEN the greatest by a million miles IF he had put in half the effort that Rice did.

    After watching him play for man years I have to agree with him. It's not arrogance if its true.

    It's so much fun when a rookie for your home team explodes in the league. Moss was all anyone talked about in my hometown all those years ago. We're experiencing it again, to a much lesser degree, with Kirill Kaprizov of the MN Wild.

      dobbins2550 Jerry rice also played like 1000 more seasons...look at the averages...if I played 20 years I better have that many yards...that's like sayin emmit smith is better than Barry

      dobbins2550 Rice had Montana and Young, Moss had Cunningham, Cullpepper, George, Johnson, Smith, Brady ( barely ) and Matt fucking Cassel. Give Rice that, for the most part, pile of dog shit, and his numbers will be well below Moss......... please defend against that truth

    Most of these plays in the video were against zone defenses. How effective was he against Man def? Was there any corner who could mark him? Was there any safety who could handle him in zone d?

      Kollin011 there weren't a lot of corners who could handle him Man D. Did you see the Charles Woodson catch in the Raiders highlight in this video? Rewind and watch. Charles Woodson the guy who won Defensive Player of the Year with the Packers. One of the five best corners of his era (Champ Bailey, then a toss-up between him and Ty Law). That was man coverage. And the book on Moss was if you jam him he'd quit. But Woodson was as physical as any corner of his era (along with Ty Law and, at a lower skill level, Quintin Jammer). Moss pwn'd him

    • @Kollin011
      @Kollin011 Před 10 lety +7

      Nicholas Cummings Didn't even realize that was Woodson; say no more. sheesh he made these corners look lazy or inexperienced.

    • @nickmhc
      @nickmhc Před 10 lety +2

      Kollin011 Woodson was no slouch, but the mistake that corners made early in Moss' career were the same as guys guarding Rajon Rondo in the NBA. Giving him space to get going and sitting on your heels is the worst thing you could do. Had to get up into him to have a chance. Corner is one of the hardest positions in the league, your point about defenses not being that great is valid but not Moss's fault. And the video's right in that he changed NFL defenses and the way safeties play over the top to prevent the big play. He changed the playing field literally, forcing WLBs and FS's to shade his side and push back an extra 1-5 yards. the All-22 shots of defenses versus Moss were comical, safeties 18-25 yards back (all that room for posts, seam routes to TEs as offenses evolved. He wasn't Rice, he couldn't run the whole route tree but he changed the game in different ways

      class doesn’t really have anything to do with how good you are as a player. Yeah it’s a nice thing to have but it doesn’t make you a better wide receiver, that was a stupid comment..

      That's a great point. I guess you can say pound for pound he's one of the best receivers, but if you don't have the numbers you don't have the numbers. It's like allen Iverson. I don't think I've ever seen such an amazing player in my life and if he was 6'6 he might have been the best ever. But you can't call him the best ever.

    I loved seeing him do it in his 30s with half the speed but more tact with the patriots. He was 6'4, ridiculous wingspan, 50' vertical, and 4.15 speed. Seriously his work ethic wasn't great always but there will never be another this gifted

    It is really ALL a Matter of Opinion....you can make Valid Arguments of who the Greatest WR is until the cows decide to come home....but when the NFL Network did the Top 100 Greatest of All time list, not that Crap they do currently every year for current players....Jerry Rice was not only the BEST WR according to his Peers but the Best Player in the Game....so like I said before, Opinion is Opinion and everyone has a right to one I guess..but, I would tend to side with the Great Players of the NFL who actually played the game...Jerry Rice (my opinion) was the GOAT WR...Moss was a rare talent, changed the game and will be a HOFer....(Just my opinion) what will always hurt Moss in the GOAT debate is the years he decided to take off in Oakland/Tenn and his production in the playoffs does not even worth mentioning vs what Rice did...

    I never saw a few of those clips. By far the most impressive were the ones he accelerates after the catch, threading the needle. Dude just blows past defenders like a video game. The confidence it takes to do that is amazing because if he cannot get to the other side he is going to get creamed. That was crazy speed. I have never seen anyone do that. Deion had crazy speed, but never the receiving talent of Moss. It seemed way too easy for him. He needed a thorn of some kind to keep his head on tight. What he did in NE was epic. Brady-Moss was just as good as it gets. If he played with Tom for even five years he would have destroyed all records, especially TD's.
