    What gets overlooked about the 1998 Minnesota Vikings is their offensive line. #73 Todd Steussie, #64 Randal McDaniel, #62 Jeff Christy, #71 David Dixon, and #77 Korey Stringer. Those guys paved the way for a historic season. God rest your soul Korey Stringer. SKOL...

      Dennis Green did a great job in creating stability in our OL: almost every member had been on the team since '94 (Stringer joining in '95). I love Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman, but it does get maddening seeing the utter discord the OL has been in during their regime relative to the '90s.

I remember a couple games where he scored 5 FGs for us, and in at least one of those games, those were the only points we got. They should never have taken him for granted. That game should not have come down to a single FG. The team lost that game, not Gary Anderson. The team lost in the overtime period, when Gary Anderson didn't play at all. As a Cowboys fan, this game still pains me.. The Cowboys needed a WR since Michael Irvin was getting older. We had the 8th pick that year and we told Randy Moss before the draft that if he were available, we would draft him. We ended up passing on him for Greg Ellis cause of his “off the field concerns.” Moss was pissed. He wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy and they had lied to him. So he always held a personal vendetta against Dallas. This game was his way of saying, “Fuck you” to us lol. I’m still salty. He should’ve been a Cowboy! 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @dionr1168
      @dionr1168 Před 4 lety +10

      Our Cowboys never won a single game against Randy Moss, and looking back, we deserved it too, not only because of the sheer talent our team passed up on, but also because that decision alone launched a domino effect that set the franchise back considerably.
      1999 - Michael Irvin suffers a career ending injury, leaving the franchise without a Hall of Fame receiver.
      2000 - Dallas proceeds to trade 2 first round picks for Joey Galloway, which backfires completely. The first of those picks is used on future MVP Shaun Alexander, while Galloway's tenure in Dallas was marred by injury. Had the Cowboys taken Moss, this trade likely would never have happened.
      2001 - Troy Aikman retires, and the Cowboys are now desperate to find a successor immediately. Without a first round pick, 2 Quarterbacks go off the board (Michael Vick, 1st overall, and Drew Brees, 32nd overall) before Dallas is finally on the clock, and they take Quincy Carter. Clearly, Dallas would've been better off with that first round pick, as Carter's career, along with the Cowboys fortunes, was ruined by his personal demons, and while Vick would have been out of Dallas's reach, they still could've had Drew Brees (who at the time was a 2nd round pick, and the position Brees was drafted at would be a first round pick today).
      So imagine a Cowboys team with Moss and Brees, with Shaun Alexander waiting in the wings after Emmitt retires with the rushing record. Their fortunes would be a lot better than they ultimately ended up being.

      Galloway's Cowboy tenure was marred by flat out horrid QB play. He lost one year to injury and 3 years to incompetence behind center.

    This game was special because 1998 was supposed to be a return to glory for Dallas after a down and dysfunctional 1997. While you cannot say that the dynasty Cowboys of the early '90s were present on the field, it certainly felt like a vestige of it showed up. Despite the Cowboys legitimately 'bringing it' for the special Thanksgiving home game, the Vikings still handily won with a more cutting edge-feeling offense.

      Deion cowardly ducked this game because he didn't want Moss making him the roasted, fried turkey on Thanksgiving Day on national TV. Moss with R. Cunningham throwing would have absolutely destroyed Deion on this day.

    The Vikings 2 game stretch vs Green Bay the previous Sunday and this game against Dallas was probably the most dominant stretch that I have ever seen by a WR. In 2 games, Moss had 321 yards and 4 TDs. Randy completely shredded the Packer secondary for 158 yards. And against Dallas, he took dominance to a whole new level with 163 on just 3 receptions, all for TDs! The season that Randy had in '98 has now become something that might never be seen again.

    The graphic after Randy Moss's third touchdown could have included that he had a fourth reception in the end zone that counted for two points [he had 20 points total].
    Leroy Hoard scored a touchdown after another pass to Moss resulted in a 1st down due to DPI.
