Man why can’t we have mechanics like you all over your such a good mechanic the people are lucky to have some one so knowledgeable about are trucks and really love doing this with a passion
Thank you my friend, we appreciate that
Awesome video! I enjoyed the post mortem at the end. I am totally dumbfounded that the all-time greatest manufacturer of trucks shoots themselves in the foot with their ecm mounting places. They mount them behind the kick panel where they will most definitely be kicked. The underside of the chassis is the worst possible place to mount an electrical component. Back in the day tags with I.D. numbers were made of metal that were stamped and either screwed or riveted in place. You didn't have to worry about them fading or falling off.
Like seeing the 11-16 content back. Good work injecting die electric grease into connector before bolting up. makes it easier. Wonder how many people skip the step with die electric. Wish you were my local technician!
💪💪💪💪
You the man. Wish i lived close to you, would bring mine in to ya for goodies
Nice Work ARod. the truck work as new agen
Awesome video thanks
Yes. More 11 - 16 content. Yes please
Excelent. You are the Best!!!!
Thank u sir
Great video ARod I will keep that in mind for my 16 if that happens thanks for sharing ARod. Was that part under warranty
Excellent work…I appreciated “this is like opening a fuckin clam!”
There's also a tag on the main control with the numbers on it. Just have to drop the pan
The belch had me rolling 😂😂
😭😭😭😭
🤣🤣
Going to look at mine now
Great video, you helped me in the past with my 2001sd. Sadly it got stolen and I replaced it with a 2012sd and I love my new truck. I have been told I have a bcm issue when you have a moment could you tell me how to contact you for help. Thanks again
Here’s a quick poser.. On my 2016 F350 CC Dually, I had it in the shop for a service and it had 2 service notes that were done. Some mandatory service updates is what I was told. Before the updates when driving road speeds, rpm’s were 1500-1650 at 65 mph. Now rpm’s are at 2000 at same speeds. What’s your recomendation?
Glad I don’t live in the salt belt, sadly there will be 3-6” piles of salt at intersection from the one snow a year that falls in SC.
got a 2014 f450 v10 rwd trans seems to be having trouble shifting gears. and truck makes a wiered noise. not griding just a loud winding noise you think it could be the tcm?
I probably have asked before. Any insight on non working reverse camera, 2015 250 Lariat. I replaced the camera unit and pigtail from camera to body harness. No change. Screen says to see dealer. I spoke to the local independent diesel shop that redid a co workers "11 after hp fuel pump wiped out the injectors, but both of us are pretty busy and would have to do without the truck for a while. The sensors do work. Thanks. I enjoy the videos.
I'd have to look at the truck for that
Did you have to reprogram the new TCM or just update the numbers?
My TCM is in the driver's seat. Well, there isn't one there right now, so the transmission won't work at the moment. Sometimes there's a TCW there. (Transmission Controlling Woman)
Classic case of o-ring failure. Aww… sorry maybe I shouldn’t make jokes about that. My guess: Cast aluminum was a heat sink. Aluminum doesn’t rust like steel, but it does oxidize. Eventually, it will sort of delaminate (as grain structure in the aluminum alloy oxidize) and expand causing the seal btw the housing and the heat sink to fail. Then, the road-salted water attacked the solder on the printed circuit board. Took 10 years to fail it seems. I would guess similar applications for military, aircraft, and aerospace will spec out machined or extruded aluminum (not cast) that is also anodized/hardcoated (thick anodize) to prevent this type of failure. (In a former life I worked in a plating shop specializing in aluminum anodizing). But, could they have mounted this in a WORSE place? 😮 I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall listening to that decision.
I agree, and with this it looks like it has rubber undercoat on it, it encases the module, but seals any water that leaks in on that gasket pretty much constantly, especially with 200k miles... it was constantly wet due to rain, on top of the salt.
I despise that stuff.
I’m looking for a new dealership i live in mid
Michigan any recommendations ?
I wonder what that was. And again I'm glad I don't live in the rust belt. Mine looks pristine.
Arod: I've bee having an issue with my power folding mirrors, 2022 f350 tremor platinum. I checked the box to enable auto fold when lock/unlock, then I was unable to uncheck it. The dealer replaced some sort of sensor, didn't fix, today replaced the IPc module, didn't fix. But when they replaced it, they didn't transfer over any data, my kilometers said 1234, and I had 0 engine hours. I'm convinced they did it wrong, you must have to copy the data to put it into the new module. I had them put the old IPC back in since it didn't fix the mirror issue.
Pretty weird
Fun thing. Last night I was driving to Walmart and it started to down pour. I was driving and all of a sudden it felt like my trans slipped. I came to a stop sign made a left turn and wrench and check stability trac came on all light went out on truck then came back on. Tranny temp not reading and no prndl. Get towed home and scanned looked at tcm and on frame side casing all rotted. Disconnected and cleared codes and ordered a new tcm. Will need assistance on programing please 2015 f350 6.7
Powerstroketechtalkwarod@gmail.com
My 6.7 in limp mode stuck in 5th gear. Has to be the tcm it looks bad like that one. Truck was fine until 3 days of rain.
Maybe...
👍
Have you ever had the PCM not talk to the H&S programmer keeps saying initializing and a diesel mechanic friend told me that there might be a problem with the PCM not reading the H&S programmer which I disconnected because it erased my PCM and all I was doing was cleaning my Dash accidentally bumping the H&S programmer coming unplug so I turned the truck off plugged it back in and try to start my truck and it wiped out the program I guess and pop some fuses strange weird whatever you want to call it wondering if you ever heard of that
🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
I have on in my bay right now with a toasted tcm. I’m a little concerned with the program because some parts have been removed from the truck. But from what you showed the only program is the idn at strategy? No need to update the pcm?
Correc6
Thanks!
Hi Rob ,so are you saying that you can do this job at the house. An if so can I get the download for the TCM. On my laptop.Do it yourself mechanic
Si
Here’s a head scratcher. ‘18 F250 with a P0884 code killing the batteries in under 12 hours. Safe to say it needs a TCM replacement as well?
Oooooooof it may..
While running or parked position?
Just like when the IDMs fail on the 7.3s
Si
Hopefully they changed the mounting location of the TCM in 2017 so it catches less road salt
Not even there anymore
Hey could these cause alternator codes and even no cranks? I've replace alt did the overlay with harness and trucks spitting p0625 and cpl transmission low voltage codes....
No. I highly recommend u watch our battery light playlists
My 19 is at the dealer right now with a bad TCM. It took down the whole network and every module threw a code. It was a no start , no crank. Went to them on the hook
@jimh598 i wish ya luck my man
Can you use just forscan to program the new shift solenoid id? Or do you need ford Ids?
No you can use forscan
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod thanks!
How did you tune the tcm in the truck? Is there a website and a connecting cord?
.....did you not watch the video
Can the reset be done with forscan on my 2012 f350 diesel?
The reset?
Off topic, but I started running high temps while towing my 10000lb trailer. Nothing obvious was found wrong with cooling system. Fan clutch was working. The tech offered to do a tow test and monitor data. While towing he noticed my oil temp to water temp differential had 10-15 degree deviation while driving on flat ground. No call for extra fan speed at this point. So we found a decent hill to climb. We climbed the hill in 3 gear 55mph 2500rpm. Noticed oil temp at 225 and water temp 197. It called for more fan speed. Fan didn’t respond for like 1 minute. And only came up 400 rpm’s. So we tried it again. This time ran up in 2 gear 3000rpm 40mph. We noticed oil temp climbed to 230. And water temp 210. And fan didn’t come on until after the hill climb. Could it be fan clutch? And oil cooler?.. sorry for the lengthy message. Also we check the fan clutch while parked. It wasn’t very responsive.
2015 f250 6.7diesel 50000.
Cld be a fan clutch. Id be active commanding it on & see what it does
Would a TCM problem cause a DEF derate fault on a 2015 F250 ?
Good question, absolutely not.
Hey I have a 2017 F450, I changed the valvebody and the tcm, the guy that does my programming was able to enter the new valvebody information, however it's not letting him enter the tcm information for programming. Any suggestions?
Is he using a ford scan tool. Its gonna have 2 access the info ti upload into it
@PowerStroke Tech Talk w/ARod I know he's tried FIDS and IDS. I think I saying that correctly. We also got the tare tag info from the dealer and tried to manually enter the information.
Hmmmmmm
So do you have to program the TCM to the ECU on a 2017 F250?
I was told that I had to have it programmed and at a cost of $1600. I have a Forscan
To program?
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I was told that they have to program the TCM to the ECU and since it doesn’t have a factory tune they have to detune to add the TCM.
Correct
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod So I guess the 11 to 16 models don’t require tuning to the ECM BUT 17 and later do?
In the F150s, 6r80, aren't those in the PCM?
Yea
Would a TCM cause the truck to immediately go into 5th gear when put in drive? Truck will not hold 1st and drives in 5th. Then once up to speed, all of a sudden, will shift 1-4 back up to 5.
I mean it cld be....
Same problem I’m having on my truck did you get it sorted out? Also shifts harshly from 1-2 and seems to act funny going from Park-Reverse-Drive but only when it’s been sitting overnight or for a while
Looks like water and road salt got into it.
Have had the same kind of symptoms. I have a 2014 6.7l and had the symptom of only starting with pedal depressed. Had a code for comm fault with Tcm. That issue went away briefly and now have a p1636 in the a/t and truck goes into 5th gear when put into drive. I’m leading down the path of tcm but wondering if anyone had any insight if I’m on the right path?
Tcm
Thanks,
If I get a new Tcm can I use forscan to download solenoid strategy and id off my current transmission to make it work or do I need a vcm and ids to program it?
@ff24x73 yes u can but ur gonna need a dongle to go from the computer to the truck
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod as in an obd link ex?
Yes thats the 1
So much rust under the truck compared to how well the outside is taken care of.
Sometimes I can still save the board...even when its that bad. You got an OEM supplied TCM which is interesting, but not surprising, most of the rebuilders aren't salvageable, both Bosch and Motorola/Continental will tell you to screw off if you need components or shells. Its a huge part of their business, remanufacturing. In fact let me guess, if you dont put that tcm back in the box and return it to the great Ford parts warehouse in the sky, dealer will catch a core charge, and a hefty one too. As far as the TCM goes, it sure would go a long ways to clip a zinc wheel weight to the tcm fin, tap it right on to there, voila galvanic sacrificial anode. Needs to be replaced when its ate down to the steel clip.
Nope RIGHT 2 the garbage
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod where it belongs
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod do you use forscan to do everything or both ids and forscan?
I have same problem since i swap TCM's in between two identical f450's
Reason why I did it so?! Because one of my truck trany is in limp mode and I have no gear indicator light on dash. What a nightmare Ford! 😢
I put brand new range sensor still nothing.
Please help
No communication most likely
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Is that normal that TCM transferred information from one truck to another?) All the symptoms went to the other truck 😂
When you don't have the PRNDL light up. That means you have no communication
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod PCM harness? Or just needs to be reprogrammed again?
@dsadzaglishvili u wld need to do the no com pin point tests to determine that my friend
Why would you put it back in the same place?
Because thats where it goes. I cant remake the harness to go somewhere else.....cmon now
That harness has plenty enough slack to move it inside of the frame rail where it won’t be in the direct path of every speck of debris thrown from the tire ahead of it. You can literally just flip the thing over with the harness still plugged in.
Maybe they should think before they put a computer where debris collects crap
yuck, looks like it has rubberized undercoat on it also... that stuff is sh8t.
Nasty 🤢. Let just put a tcm under the truck where all the water and salt is
Great place for a computer... jesus christ
Somethin about RFI & thats where they had 2 put it
Your super zoom-ins on badging and everything make watching this video super dizzying to watch. You zoom in and out super fast and it's super hard to focus on
