- It is only week 7 of my dream garage build and the new roof is on already and it is bar friendly ! Things are coming along nicely. We avoided a huge issue with windows and it is so excited to see the building progressing.

Great to see the improvements coming along. And thanx to your good lady for the important extra info when you were away. But I do want to mention, make sure you can move all the gym gear to one side easily.

Great idea, to back the plasterboard with ply. That's going to make placement and securing your shelving/mounts SO much less stressful!
The quality of mitreing on those trusses is excellent. Very reassuring to know your roof is so well put together.

Hi Pete. Fascinating watching the build come on. Didn't know about the bat friendly membrane thanks for the info. Just a change in subject. I have been re-watching your videos on the long term Rav4 phev. I have a 73 plate phev. Thank you in the correction of the e-cvt. I would just like to point out that the infotainment system has been upgraded and is a lot better plus the gauges are now full digital. On my last charge the car told me that I have 61 miles of range but I checked that with my trip and real world range is now 50 miles, depending on how one drives. I love this car such brilliant engineering. Thank you for all your videos. Thank you Mrs PetrolPed.

Hello Peter! That roof work is beautifully done and impressively strong in design. I love woodworking and construction then hate it covered up..but you have to! I was so pleased to see Tracey taking more film for you…and we need to see her enjoying it all when it is finished. One extra thought is to do with loft temperatures…from my experience it can become very hot in them so as well as the windows, do you have thoughts on an extractor fan…my Dad was fitting them over 60 years ago so I have grown up with them and find them so useful to pull colder air across from any roof window or vent.
Now FoS..I tried to see you on Friday but it was so crowded again…I had a job to walk around let alone sit down! I did see Becky Evans and Harry Metcalfe but missed you every time…maybe another chance will come up.

I’ve said this before, I’m jealous, it’s looking really good. I’m happy, I’ve just sold my MX5 and bought a Honda CRZ….not because I wanted a Hybrid…but I wanted a different looking car…so over these jelly mould looking SUVs.

3 days for the roof is nothing. When we had our roof taken off and replaced on our bungalow with lots of funny angles( it is a over 100 year old building) it took 2 months and when it was being worked we had no rain at all

Looks amazing - making fantastic progress! Have you considered internet access between the barn and house? Although they look quite close for decent WiFi to bridge the gap 👍🏻

Viewers from Scotland may question why the roof is not being sheeted with ply or OSB before felt, counter and tile battens. Different building regulations.
My roof has counter battens on the OSB surface of a SIPS roof, before the normal cross battens, It helps with cooling in hot summer weather.South Hampshire (It was ahead of building regs).

@@PetrolPed I questioned these regulations during a build in the 1990s. It’s to do with “snow load” effect. 2 feet of snow weighs a huge amount in terms of tonnes. Sheeting the roof creates much more rigidity and strength. Not applicable in England.
@@solentbum I didn’t know they did SIPS in England. Fabulous system for insulation quality. Very close to “passive house” which will be building regs in Scotland from January 2025. Well done you. Low cost heating and bills.

Question - hope you’ve accounted for enough space to actually move your gym kit up onto that upper floor? From experience (moving equipment into a New Jersey basement) that stuff weighs a ton and can be super tricky manhandling it.
Yes we’ve thought that might be tricky but hope it will be OK. We are fitting a slightly wider front door 👍

That new shape Mini is just awful to look at! I guess the current BMW design influence is filtering in, driven no doubt by the growing market in China. Shame as the Mini is such a great car.

This bat-friendly roof business is fascinating. Here in Hawai'i, we've had to stop using black felt underlayment because of OUR particular environment. We now use a gray, plastic sheeting under our shingles or whatever we're putting on our roofs.
I wonder...
We do have an indigenous "Hawaiian Bat" species that is endangered. I've never heard of my neighbours talking about bats in the rafters here. So interesting!
I also couldn't tell you if such creatures would've benefited from the same care and consideration you've extended to your bat species. Good on YOU for taking care of your animals!

Our building control office has been out several times and is more than happy with the work so far 👍
