Your hands are stained with aluminum oxide, these are the particles that stick to your skin, don't worry, it's not serious.
For the goats: there are commercial repellents designed specifically to keep animals away. In the case of goats, something with a strong smell of vinegar, garlic, eucalyptus or mint, bear repellent works very well hahahaha in a container on the stairs. More complicated is a sound barrier but effective, an infrared sensor associated with a horn, passes an invisible barrier for example along the edge of the roof, sounds the horn, two things will happen or the goat runs away or the goat dies of a heart attack in the worst case there will be meat on the weekend, just kidding but the sound barrier works. The last one is used a lot in the field is: a cable with a static charge that when the goat touches it gets a non-lethal shock, just an unpleasant moment, special kits are sold, it is likely that the mastiff sees it and drives away its flock.

I would probably pick first one. I would guess most horizontal surfaces in their house, like tables and whatnot, are going to be something more treated and slick. So it would fit, also there's the contrast and it's probably easier to clean and wont be affected if something spills.

When the doors and windows are finally installed, at least the goats can’t come inside, but they will still come on the roof. Goats will be goats and there’s nothing you can do to stop them from being goatlike because that’s what they are. Goats. I think a dog and perhaps some kind of fencing to protect them from being able to jump onto the roof would be your best bet.

Have the girls make a stash of aluminum cans with little pebbles/rocks in them. Keep them handy and toss/throw them at the goats (not directly at them, at the ground near them) to keep them away. The cans make a lot of noise but won’t hurt them if you accidentally hit them. This is how we trained our lab not to go up the driveway to the road. We used pennies not stones. But you have so many stones!

      Heelers will bite!
Found out by renting an Airbnb with one on premises. Was talking to the host and the heeler came over and bit me!
The next evening, I was talking to the host again and the dog bit me again!
After some research, I discovered that they’re bred to bite the ankles of sheep and cattle to herd them. That’s the way they’re bred. Unless you get them as a pup and raise them along with children, they WILL bite the children’s ankles to ‘herd’ them.
They are dangerous around small children if not properly trained and around other dogs, as well.
I had to be kept separate from that dog for the rest of my stay there and the owner did say he had to pull the dog back every time while walking him bc he was aggressive towards other dogs.

As far as those goats go, they seem like curious creatures interested in some attention and fun. Perhaps a visit with your new neighbours, a bottle of wine, some bread and cheese as a peace offering is in order. Those windows look amazing! I think you're probably going to use a pillow covering on the windowsill and some scatter pillows if you all want to sit and read books there. You'll probably need some kind of ties or rubber mat to hold the bottom pillows in place. In that case, the wood will be hidden, but need to be smooth so that the fabric doesn't wear prematurely. Final details, but a fancy, thick piece of wood might not be necessary.

When aluminum makes your skin turn black during handling, it's usually due to a combination of factors:
    1. **Oxidation and Corrosion:** Aluminum is a reactive metal that forms a thin layer of aluminum oxide when exposed to air. This layer is usually invisible and protective. However, in certain conditions, such as the presence of moisture, salts, or acidic substances, aluminum can corrode further, leading to the formation of black or grayish compounds like aluminum hydroxide. These compounds can easily transfer to your skin, leaving a black residue.
    2. **Metallic Residue:** When handling aluminum, especially if it's been machined, scratched, or is in the form of a powder, tiny particles of the metal itself can rub off onto your skin. These particles can then mix with oils and sweat on your skin, creating a black or grayish appearance.
    3. **Dirt and Grease:** Aluminum surfaces, especially those not coated or finished, can attract dirt, grease, and other contaminants. When you touch the aluminum, these substances can transfer to your skin, causing it to turn black.
This discoloration is generally harmless and can be washed off with soap and water.

Probably the window sill/seats should be the same as the beams. What ever you do, try to start light rather than darker. The exposed stone in the house will be dramatic contrast enough. Even though you have really thought out the lighting in the house, your house will probably tend to feel dark at times. It will all be beautiful. Your wife will help when the interor elements are added. Look around Italy and take note of how they do those nice deep window sills & also how they use them.

Just hope the goats won’t brake the roof glass window by stepping on it 🐐🐐

Oxidation and the oils on your skin will make your hands black when working with aluminum. Wear gloves and wash your hands often! Great job!! Fun with the goats!

The aluminium oxidates and turns your hand grey/black, it isn't toxic. I like your progress on the build.

Suggestion: adjustable shower curtain rods to hold your panels in place while the spray foam cures.

My only problem is the cutting of the insulation… like nails down a blackboard😂. I have to turn the 🔇 off. I’m such a wuss. I’m SO enjoying the whole process of your home restoration. It’s fascinating and delightful. You are going to have the most amazing home when you are finished. 😊😊😊
Just a thought, put treats for the goats somewhere distant like one level down to teach them to go elsewhere when near the house.

IDEA; run a electric wire fence along the back of the roof to keep them off.

    • @lfuentes4098
      @lfuentes4098 Před 20 dny +11

Exactly what I was going to recommend. You can run a solar powered fence around the perimeter of the house. That way they’ll still eat your grass but stay out of the construction zone. 😂

@@chasetonga it’s not electrified enough to hurt someone. Just make you think twice about crossing the fence.

I renovated an abandoned farm house in France a few years ago , very hard work and applied a lot of lime mortar, built a lot of internal walls as the original building had none and did a complete elec and plumb install , a lot of hard work but the results were well worth it, having watched your videos , I still learned a few tricks I could have used, great job guys!

Love your work! Window seats. If your sun is strong in the window (all day) it could bleach the wood stain. If varnished you would have to completely redo it. Consider stain and a good wood oil over it. You should be able to keep it the color you like without having to strip it all back. Check to see if this happens with your master carpenter making them what is his suggestion. As he will know for your area. It happens here in Florida and in Colorado. 😊

Aluminum oxidizes in grey/black colour, so might be something to do with that. Oxidized particles gather on your hands and it's getting visible.

Maybe tile above the windows? They make tile that looks like wood.

Solar powered electric fence, around the roof, a zap won't hurt them. Kept my horses in and other things out.
