We spent about 11 hours playing Blood Rage, Rising Sun, and Ankh and discussing them! Does Blood Rage enter Doolin's top 50? If so, Patreon gets to decide a punishment for him! If not.... I’ve played all of these at least 10 or more times now and what’s interesting is that Ankh was my groups least favorite of the 3 after the first couple of plays due to the merge mechanic but now it’s by FAR our favorite due to it’s very tense tactical nature. We are kind of meh on Rising Sun now, still love Blood Rage, but having much more experience with Ankh it’s shorter, the replayability really starts to show, and now the people who merge either barely win or barely lose which boggles our mind how consistent this has been. It’s definitely one of those games that requires the same group to play many times to make it truly shine.
It’s interesting you say that. I’ve played BR twice and the rest once. Even in the days since recording just *thinking* about these games (because honestly I’ve been obsessed) ..

Ankh has jumped Rising Sun IMO. Blood Rage still 1 but I have so much more space in my head dedicated to Ankh and I love the hex grid map and the event system and ugh- I desperately want to own it and play it again.
I’m really happy to hear that it’s shot up for your group as well.
In your opinion anhk has more replayability and it's more tactic? I don't know which to buy.

Rising Sun, for me, is probably the best experience out of all 3 of them. However that requires getting 5-6 friends together to play, that all know how to play the game and really get into the negotiations and teaming up together. I’ve had so much fun with it.
Loved my one play! The more I chew on it though, the more I may give the edge to Ankh. Blood Rage still 1st. We’ll see though! I hope to play all 3 of these at least semi regularly. :)

Agreed entirely! These are some of the most fun to make! We’re just so excited and in awe of what we’re playing haha!
It's funny to me cause I own all 3 and the whole time listening to Blood Rage talk, I was thinking that 7 Wonders is my favourite drafting game and always has an interesting choice, meanwhile Blood Rage for my....10 or so plays has ALWAYS been "oh obvs the cool monster!" Then the next person grabs a cool battle card, and the last person is stuck taking shitty Quest cards that are lackluster to draft but obv can get a lot of points later on. If you play 7 Wonders properly, just like Blood Rage, you will never be stuck not being able to use a card because you don't have a certain symbol. That's the strategy of it.
Rising Sun I love the theme, the asymmetry is just way more interesting to me than Blood Rage just being "pick a colour and minis you think look cool" and the board is gorgeouuuuus. The only thing is my group sucks at the Tea Ceremony, we're too Canadian and don't want someone left out.
We just played Ankh the 2nd time tonight and I love the difference to Rising Sun but I think it still edges out as my favourite of the 3. But for experience with my group and for 2 player if just my gf and I are playing, Ankh 100% is way better.
So much fun watching the first impressions (and pizza!) But I am living for this thumbnail!! ❤🤣

I was a backer of Ankh + Pantheon expansion and they have been sitting in shrink wrap since they arrived. I was debating selling it all, but this review and the team's measured thoughts have pretty much changed my mind. I HAVE to get to this the table!
that was a nice talk! So far I just learned how to play Ankh. I know that the merge mechanic is something most players don't like, at least on first glance. But I think it puts a nice tension into the gameplay and also is something people do anyways: teaming up against the strongest player. So here you can and must do it officially and I think it can be quite powerfull to play a merged god as a team. may - without much experience with ankh - this might be the most interesting mechanic in the game.
Our group is DEFINITELY split when it comes to the merge. We honestly should just revisit that topic at some point! Thanks for sharing :)
I think the word you were looking for was flailing around, which seems to be what Mac was doing in Blood Rage, but I could totally be wrong.
I don't have the game yet, but for me, it feels like we can simply ignore the merge and continue playing without much change. Am I right? The merge is not a huge part as negotiation is for rising sun. Is just a step!
Love the fact that max wanted to merge to work with Doolin in Ankh and Doolin is like “nahhhh I don’t want to play with you!” 🤣

Is it coincidence that Doolin ranked his in exactly the same order that he finished? It seems that you would have a better experience with a game you won.
Great looks into these. I still have to play my copy of Ankh but at the present Blood Rage is above Rising Sun for me but I need to play them again bc that may have changed as well.

Have played Blood Rage and Ankh by now. But only once. So I don't think that I understood them properly.
Hope they reprint bloodrage. Cant seem to find a new copy anywhere. Seems like a really great game that my family will enjoy.
The merge in Ankh seems very divisive. I can see it getting house ruled out by a lot of people.
I think it's hard to follow up Blood Rage. But I've heard rumours of a new Blood Rage being in the works by Eric. Not sure if those are true, and if a re-imagining or a follow up.
I too heard some buzz of, at the very least, some new expansion? But that was months ago and I’ve seen no talk of it since so maybe it didn’t pan out. I’d love to see! I think Eric Lang has to be my favorite designer at the moment.
In the last video in the channel of CMON Eric lang said he is working for new content for Blood Rage.

It's not correct that the last player doesn't bring anything into the merge. Lower god brings the devotion, guardians, followers and his god power.
That strategy that gets erased (ankh power and monuments) - that was losing. Change was needed.
Ankh > RS > BR (BR is good) :-)
Own Blood Rage and Ankh and played both once. Need more plays of each but I think they are both excellent. I think Blood Rage is more palatable than ankh, because the merge can rub people the wrong way. Ankh is probably the easiest to teach though. I don't think I'll go out of my way to buy rising sun, but I would def play someone elses copy.

nemesis for example is great game and very well rated its not area control so no comparisons here, but tbh you can die in that game in the first half easily and then watch others for 1h.....from Ankh what I understand based on other reviews and pple that liked that merge mechanics they were kinda right.....if you are last one you would lose anyway so merge can bring you back to the game and pple went from last to very close to winning with this catch up mechanics that for example are not in blood rage (its my n1 game tho) rising sun I played twice yet....there is another problem and that is alliances every game has its own....
I never been more sad to see the disrespect Rising Sun is getting. A friend of mine LOVES Bloodrage. I HATE it. Hate it. I got crushed and destroyed. Not fun. I played it like 5 or 6 times and the last time i played it took way too long and the only redeeming part of it was that my friend was having a great time but i was miserable. I think i wil buy Rising Sun and find a new group of friends to play it with. My friend played it only once and did not like it. Fine... It takes more then one play though. Those few hours of Blood Ragr i am not getting back unfortunately.
I actually have an entire video dedicated to how bad my first play (or 2?) of Blood Rage were. But since, I’ve loved it.
Since this video we’ve played all of these again. Rising Sun was great at 5 but is still my (Max) least favorite of the three. I believe it’s Doolins favorite though.
I think they’re all great and different.
At 2, I’m taking Ankh every day,
At 3, I’m fine with any of them.
At 4, Blood Rage.
At 5, Rising Sun.
They’re all great games imo.
@@Tablenauts my game took so long that i decided to play Dune Imperium on my phone. Not proud but not ashamed either. They were taking such long turns. I literally never pilaged succesfully in that game.Blood rage is overrated. The board is horrible. Ankh board looks so much better.
