  • You know Amazon for prime, alexa, and fresh... now they have go! Amazon Go is a store that has been in the works for a while. A cashierless grocery store. Every introverts dream. Located in Seattle, WA I headed over to the store to see what I could find for a haul and review of the new Amazon Go store.

      Maja Amazon is known for their excessive packaging and waste. I ordered all boxes off pantry(we call it pantry here) no bottles and I got them in a box full of airbags and crap that 1. Isn't environment friendly and 2. Not user friendly. Now I have excessive garbage. They need to chill-out with the packaging

    Shimmer is a term used by chefs to describe the oils appearance when it's at the perfect temp for perfect searing. When you first pour oil out of its bottle, and into a cold pan, the oil has a more viscous and dull appearance, but as it heats up it takes on almost a more watery consistency and flows across the pan quickly, when you swirl the pan around, and the oil has a "shimmery" appearance to it when it's well heated, letting you know that the oil is at the perfect temp and ready to be cooked in.

    The amount of packaging in that meal prep box is astonishing. This juste creates extra waste for nothing. Buying local produce without so much packaging from a farmers market is the best option. Plus you can talk with them and know what you are buying because they participated in the making of the produce they are selling.

    • @Rinsuki

      Yep I support small farms and local. Farmers are already struggling because of cheaper imports. This though cause so many problems and in the long run really damages our earth. I'm all for innovation, but we can innovate with the health of the people and land in mind too.

    • @sisipinho
      @sisipinho Před 6 lety +128

      you have a great point there. this doesn't feel like you're spending anything and can get dangerous for those who don't keep track of their expenses. about the loss of jobs, even though it's an obvious point, there's already self-checkout stores everywhere, at least here in Portugal, so that doesn't shock me as much anymore. my bf works at a supermarket replacing things on shelves, and unless they start creating a robot to do that (wouldn't surprise me) there's still a demand for workers, just not cashiers ;)

    • @MackenzeeJaneMusic
      @MackenzeeJaneMusic Před 6 lety +57

      sisipinho also, it might allow for the ability to provide more customer service in the grocery stores, because they don’t need people tied to the cash register! Like it seemed like there were more workers on the floor making sure you found things okay than there would be in a normal grocery store.

    • @teagenthetiefling5296

      Natasha Jerjomina I agree but at this point we can’t stop automation

    • @Rinsuki
      @Rinsuki Před 6 lety +13

      I guess it will create loss of jobs, but then new ones will open up. Same thing is happening in clinical labs because we are automated mostly however the funny thing is when it runs smoothly yay, but when it goes down guess what happens? We get out our pen and paper to record patients. We also have to manually do everything. One time our blood culture instrument went down and quality control was compromised and it was a hot mess to go back and record, redoing all our plates and slides. So yes when automation goes well it is great however there will always be jobs for people to trouble shoot. In my case, there always has to be someone to read the results and put two and two together.

      Olivia M Open net fish farming is not a sustainable way to farm salmon, it could be done on land, in closed containment and has been proven by the Namgis First Nation with Kutterra. Open net fish farms in the Broughton Archipelago are placed right along the migratory routes of wild salmon where they are exposed to all kinds of diseases, sea louse, and pollution that these farms cause. Now i know fish farms are not the only threat towards wild salmon but there is definitely something that can be done about it. Like moving towards closed containment on land or they can pack up and go back to Norway

    In the Netherlands we do have little scanners that you take with you in the store, scan everything you buy and pay at the end at a cashierless register. Which I thought was pretty convenient, but this is even cooler. You don't have to scan anything by yourself, the store just does it all automatically for you

    • @tmnd
      @tmnd Před 6 lety +2

      Ahahaah fun thing! I am from Europe, from Italy actually, as you could have probably told from my name. Of course, I realize and understand how much ahead we Europeans are compared to other parts of the world (such as transportation, social issues and contexts), but at the same time, I have also lived almost one year and a half in the United States, and, in means of technology advancements, I think the US is far ahead!
      Furthermore, I think that the Amazon GO stores could not have started anywhere else, because in Europe we have a complete vision of food and grocery shopping, and I don't think this new "way" of doing it will develop in this continent any time soon. Or if it does, I am pretty sure it will not overcome the supermarkets and local markets. That's all.

    This is not something you should be thinking that’s cool. If this ends up going nationwide, many jobs will be lost because of this one dumb company trying to rule everything. This is one of my absolute worst nightmare while being a 15 year old teenager because I don’t know what the future holds with technology and the store you showed. Im afraid that in my older days of living that we are all going to be these lazy people that don’t do what we do now. I don’t want robots doing things for us. I don’t want things to be so overwhelmed with technology. It’s better living in a world where we do things ourselves and not technology doing all the work. It’s scary even thinking about what could happen if these kind of things keep up. Even now I am freaking out due to the fact that many stores are now closing because they can get all this stuff online, like on amazon. That is just making people lazy and not realizing they are shifting away from actual life where you can experience things face to face instead of buying it on a screen. Most people these days are so sucked into their computers and phones that they are clueless about everything and don’t think critically. Just think of it as Wall-E.. I rest my case..

    • @stelity
      @stelity Před 6 lety +2

      I think you're just overthinking things.... Ask yourself what's wrong with technology advancing. What's so scary about it? Life would only get easier. Technology is made so that things are more convenient and easy for humans. If it wasn't, nobody would buy it and the company would go bankrupt, right? Amazon Go doesn't make people lazy, buying stuff online with free shipping makes people lazy. A lazy person would use something like hellofresh.com to get their groceries shipped to their door. On the other hand, for amazon go, the consumer is walking to the store and picking out their groceries. Maybe you're just too worried and overthinking things.... Also, it helps if you didn't use social media too often. It gets your emotions and makes you irrational.
