Planet of the Apes is the only franchise I can think of that has limitless potential for sequels
People knocking the FX in this movie have no idea what they are talking about. The movie is stunning and very good. Looking forward to more. I want to see emerging Ape culture even more. Imagine Ape sailing ships like pirates trading human slaves... Or Apes discovering the power of steam and starting to develop technology.
War for the Planet of the Apes is one of my favorite movies of the 2010s
You’re not alone.
Just finished watching war for the planets
Mine too. Best of the three, for me
@@TerryOnTuesdayDawn is the best one imo, but War isn't far below it in terms of quality.
I consider it 2nd best after dawn idk why some ppl be hating on it, kingdom comes third but all 4 solid films
I too was gushing at the rushing water completely soaked apes. Looked amazing. Lets do a spoiler discussion on Sunday woo hoo
Looking forward to this, then Furiosa.
Looking forward to "Furiosa" too.
Why??
@@andrewbaileyMKU Watch Mad Max: Fury Road, then you'll understand!
@RSG_TheMonster I love that movie. Mainly because it had Max ib it. Why are they making a movie without Max? Who the fuck wants to see a 80lbs lil girl beat up grown men
Seeing it with my folk’s tomorrow after work. All the reviews even yours, John has got me even more excited for the movie!
I loved the movie. Of all the possibly unnecessary sequels we have nowadays, this is the one that most proved that it should exist. It's original while respecting the previous movies. It brings up and explores interesting new themes. All the characters are great. It isn't predictable (quite the opposite actually). Amazing
John, you should go back and watch War once again. It is one of the best trilogy ending of my times.
100%. So many people think War is the worst for some reason. It's every bit as good as Dawn. Kingdom is nowhere near any of them.
Just watched it! It’s great! Definitely looking forward to the next one!
Honestly, a bit worried with Wes Ball taking over. But damn, I was surprised with how he handles the character and story here!
To be fair, a lot of great directors we know these days start with some just so so projects, hell even Peter Jackson started with some B-movie projects, Maze Runner trilogy while story wise isn’t remarkable, the direction is constantly shown to have potential in a limited budget given, and potentially combine with better and more experienced screenwriters, I think Wes Ball have the potential, also dude is fairly young for a director so this is definitely his first step to get bigger opportunities in the future
@@madtitan0825 I'm really excited to see his vision for the franchise. To continue what Reeves has done is an almost impossible task, but I'm satisfied with Wes Ball direction. Hopefully they could improve the screenwriting in the sequel because that is what I feel lacking (and yes, that isn't Wes fault)
I’m seeing it later tonight and I’m pumped, that Planet Of The Apes prequel trilogy was absolutely incredible, and I’m so interested to see a modern day take on the Charlton Heston era of the Planet Of The Apes story, I had some concerns with Matt Reeves no longer being at the helm but it’s great to hear that Wes Ball handled it well
Not a horrible movie but it would easily be ranked 4th behind the last Caesar trilogy. I personally would have liked if they followed Cornelius 30 or 40 years later and they could have used the little girl they protected in WAR. OVERALL it wasn’t bad but they need a better sequel to this.
I love that they can still go there because this was set 300 years later
Great addition to the series....loved it....music was great, and took me back to the original 1968 movie. "the Eagles are Coming" moment was great too
Just left the theatre after seeing this. What a great film
this is soo good. had me more exicited about what the apes will do to progress in knowlage and tech.
GREAT FILM!!! Need more time to reflect, but it’s close to the best in the entire series. Anybody who wants great story telling, great visuals & an evenly paced movie, this is a must watch!
Great character story. This is a journey of redemption and understanding a world that seemed cut off. The human story was interesting too, with great dynamics at play. Only disappointment was Proxima Caesar was not scary enough, could have been more menacing and brutal. Also, this is the best cgi I’ve ever seen. It’s insane at times, they’ve nailed the emotion.
I loved it, just wish I had a little more insight on Proximus... I feel like it wasn't that wrong... weird right?
Thanos had that same energy. The bad guy doing things that made sense. Made for a great villain. Still haven’t seen the movie yet, I’ll revisit this comment though
I was kind of hard to understand the apes talking so I missed some dialogue and didn’t understand some scenes but I still loved it
same here and i thought it was my long hair which i kept on moving back from my ears as I could not hear some of what was being said.
GREAT FILM
This movie was gorgeous... I was blown away by the near flawless CG.
It looked great, but I feel 2017's War for the planet of the apes looked better
@@tdvcyt2534yeah agreed! For some reason Noa didn’t look photorealistic. I think it was the lack of hard lighting on Noa’s face, while Raka and Proximus looked SO REAL cos they had more hard lighting.
@@jakelow8166 yeah, I felt that too. I do think that, for some reason, the orangutans (like Maurice in the trilogy) always looked better than the other apes. It even looks photoreal in Rise. But having said that, as far as the chimps go, I still think War was the peak.
War was my favorite
I rewatched it a couple of days ago and it's excellent. The script is 🔥
This movie is Apocalypto meets Avatar Way Of water.
Kingdom comes on top for me, next war, and then 1968. I got lost in the characters and the story and was left wanting more. So good.
Trailer number 2 for a quiet place day one dropped today, and it looks fantastic I can't wait for next month I love the first two movies in this franchise so I am sure this one is going to be great as well
Just watched it last night and I really liked it.
First and I got to say I went to see it and it was one of the best visual movies I've seen since War and I'm desperate wanting more from these characters, the acting is superb especially Owen and Kevin as Noa and Proximus Ceaser and he is a great villain (I agree about what happened to him as I never give spoilers), Raka is going to be a fan favourite (no spoilers again), Silver the secondary villain was great and some great humour mixed with the action and emotion of it all. I give it 5 bananas out of 5
This movie is epic
Nice video all. Agreed on the apes in water visual effects, was impossible to tell it was cgi, it looked quite authentic. When I heard Jerry Goldsmith's OG score in one scene, I got chills.
Was awesome!!
Just seen the movie, really liked the film, but I do have a lot of questions that need to be answered (hopefully they are in the later movies)
The best I have ever seen after Avatar 2! Cheers for the team!
I thought it was good and I liked the world building and character development. Always need that since they intend to make more with these characters.
Note, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was slower with a lot of character development.
So much for no spoilers! Glad i saw the mivie before you ruined the opening scene!
Does the aspect ration change in imax? If not is Dolby better?
The entire film was shot anamorphically, so there are ni aspect ratio changes, Dolby is worth it!
The switch from the focus on world-building and establishing the new ape characters to the lead human as a fully articulate communicating special operator was so jarring I just wanted the human characters to go away so the audience could get further immersed n the world ruled by apes. What a waste of potential! Hats off to some good acting and technical work.
I utterly disagree, loved that the humans are still around and the ending gave me shivers, terminator salvation vibes.
How does the technology even still work? Those satellites should not be able to move in the condition they are in
Exactly we still know how to work technology hundreds of years old but civilization as we know it is destroyed. How does that make any sense? What is society like for the bunker humans? How have they been surviving all this time? So much could’ve been explained in this movie instead of the slow pacing we got with a lot of unnecessary scenes
It was located in the deserts I guess that’s the biggest factor for this
lol I said the same thing and then I followed it up by saying oh well it is what it is lol
The end audio is it raka or proximus? Sounded like raka to me
this video broke news to me that they’re doin a Zelda movie.
I loved this movie , it was the world where they lived in was such a great update of how the 60s 70s movies were . Can’t believe they pulled it off again
Love having the insinder in the house!
i absolutely loved it, i also cant decide between dawn and kingdom. as far as mystery goes, this one has it all.
in the dawn you kinda new where it would go once the issue was presented.
this is probably the movie of the year so far
Rise is the best stop the cap
@@ciscostew9342I’ve been watching reviews and reading threads the past few days and absolutely no one has Rise as the best. The consensus is Dawn or War as the best. Then Rise and Kingdom. Of course that’s not stopping you from liking Rise the most. But a lot of other people feel Dawn is the best of the series
Even more amazing when you hear that all the water scenes in the movie are ALL cgi 🤯
One thing I didn't like was that to create "Suspense", they just had Noah fall somewhere.
It happened like 5 times in the movie and started to get ridiculous lol
I think it adds to the story, because Noah and his tribe are climbers, so their biggest fear would be falling.
I enjoyed it too
Dawn is the best movie out of all of them
The CG was good I was mad humans were in it I didn’t love this movie but I see what they’re doing I’m sure they’re just setting us up from the next one, they’re just building up to the good stuff
do you have to watch the other movies to enjoy Kingdom ?
You should watch rise of the planet of apes, dawn of the planet of apes and war for the planet of apes before you watch the newest one.
No, you don't. But this movie will make you want to visit those films
@@hoseaxci2419great advice thank you🙏
I would make the experience better for sure
You don’t but it might make a little more sense if you do.
Wow there are a lot of varied reviews...from Jeremy to Campea!
- sincerely, Whatever Goes Podcast
I saw it yesterday, its not bad and it sometimes it seemed very slow and confusing at some parts . But overall not better then the trilogy before. Anyway lets see the next part when it comes to what it ended on.
So your saying it’s good but not great but has the potential to be in future films.
@@emanuelrodriguez9044 yeh hopefully
I loved this movie
Loved the movie, Kingdom Planet of the Apes 😁
Just saw it today at 4pm and it’s phenomenal
10/10
I’m patiently waiting for the astronauts that were teased in rise
What astronauts were teased on the first film?
Before the apes broke out there wss scene of newspaper saying rocket ship went missing
@@acfan8253 the news paper and tv showed the astronauts getting lost in space
Oh, I gotta check that out, I missed it or forgot about it
Those astronauts aren't coming for 1000s of years yet.
I dozed off & fell asleep.....twice
Same here I dozed off 3 times...Definitely not my favorite
This film was amazing. Similar to what John said, I loved the religious commentary and world building.
I seriously think they should just remake the whole saga 👀
Justice for rakka
Hey John, where did you get that awesome sweatshirt?
It was a very enjoyable film. Every scene is breathtaking! The character development was very well done.
"Primacy" over the entire world
Hehe
How did Ray stay awake is my question?
If you think about it yes proximus did change ceaser rule but not all that much. At the start he attacks Noah’s people not because he wanted to hurt them but to bring them to his kingdom where all ape’s are together and strong together. And he was also right about may there was nothing in that vault that the apes would’ve done something crazy with but she is so stuck in the past she can’t let the apes evolve
Caesar wouldn't have forcefully attacked and burned down an entire village of peaceful Apes, killing some in the process, to get them to come to his Kingdom lmao. He'd just ask if they want to come or not. Proximus wanted the apes in that village to feel completely defeated and have no choice but to be in his Kingdom.
There were literally dozens and dozens of tanks and tons of weapons in that vault lmao. What do you mean there was nothing there Proximus' Kingdom wouldn't have done anything crazy with? Literally in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the apes were running around with guns shooting people and using tanks 😂
Spoilers.
Looks like the Colonel and the US army bailed out to soon.
We're harder to kill off than cockroaches.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is by far the best so far to me! The hero is Female! She played her role to the MAX!!! I watched with my daughter on this Mother's Day Weekend. We both loved it! I could have watched this movie for another hour! Can't wait for the next movie! I pray it comes out sooner than 3 years!!!
The humans aren’t suppose to be the heroes
It was a masterpiece Like dawn of the Planet of the Apes ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉 i loved it so much.
I absolutely loved the movie. I think the Caesar trilogy is better (so far), but it all depends on how the others in this Noa & Mae Trilogy turn our. I think this movie is visually stunning, has interesting characters that I cared about, and takes place in a time period that's insanely interesting. I easily give it an 8 or 9 out of 10, and I look forward to the next one. --- People saying it is boring. I can respect them, but I think this movie has a slower tone than the others. It's more of fantasy/sci-fi epic versus the origin story nature of the Caesar films. Our main character Noa gains knowledge and discovers this new world along with us as viewers. It's a character movie with some awesome action. I wrangled 6 of my friends into going to see this film & they all enjoyed it. 2 of them had never watched any Apes content. The other 4 had seen the Caesar movies. -- All in all, this is an excellent film, and I am excited to see where this new trilogy goes.
Spoilers alert
My friend slept in interval 😂😂
No spoilers then drops the first scene opening bro come on
That's what I said too
Was thinking the same thing!!
My ranking goes:
1. Dawn
2. Rise
3. War
4. Kingdom
i thought Kingdom was okay. Kind of started to fall off for me when they got to Proximus’ beach fort.
How do you feel about the originals?
Rise is better bro
I'm a huge fan of Rise, Dawn, and War, and I would rank this one behind all three. Solid directing. I like a lot of things happening here, but it doesn't really have the goods that the other ones have, and I think it's almost too much of a setup for a sequel versus being its own movie. I'd give it a solid 7/10, serviceable. Go watch Fall Guy instead.
*Edit: I also think the graphics in Dawn and War were superior to this one. This one just feels very soft and more CGI looking, compare to War, which looked photoreal.
When is it released on Netflix?
No way this was better than War. The fuck.
I don't get why people like you think everyone has to have the same opinion as yours, & then get all sensitive & butthurt when they don't. 😂 Lmao
@@lazzi2462 who’s butthurt? Just stating it’s a wild opinion to have. John is kinda known for his hot takes at this point. Lmao.
@@alasdairboswell4654 It's his opinion. Thinking that people's opinion has to be exactly like yours & that only your opinion is right even though they're subjective, that's what's wild. Lmao
War is a terrible movie.
@@DarthVader964L Take
HUMANS WE ARE BACK!!
It is not a bad movie, but is the weakest of the 4.
I agree. I thought it was pretty good but the other 3 were better.
Isn’t it hard to compare: seems more it’s own thing no? Lighter tone, more adventurous?
The movie really didn’t do anything for the franchise it’s just there lol we gotta watch the next one to even know what happens movie leaves u with questions and gives me a headache
Exactly. That’s when you know it’s a bad movie when you have to watch other movies and read interviews with the director or writers to understand it. The movie itself should do a good job explaining things. Instead it was confusing and most of it made no sense once you start reflecting on things that happened in the film
@@sinematic06......you can literally watch this movie without watching the the trilogy tf you on about?
Then that sounds like a you problem. 🤷🏾♂️
@@MyEcho4 why you so mad bruh 😂
@@sinematic06what needed to be “explained”?? The fact that Campea and others don’t need anything “explained” or “answered” should tell you something
John, your cast of co-hosts look bored af.
The film kinda fell apart in the last 20 which was unfortunate given the world building.
Spoilers.
Assuming this is leading to Charlton Heston. Wtf are they going to name the inevitable second Apes and Humans war film?😅
To maybe bite off the original series Battle FOR the planet of the apes
I don't know what people are raving about. It was slow, no explanation as to how some humans hundreds of years after Cesar death are still living with technology and haven't yet rebuild and dominated, No back story on Mae that is little known till at the end of the movie. The characters of Proximal Cesar is never explained, he is just this ruler who just is. Also no real attention to Proximal Cesar's character. The Gorilla general was more interesting than Proximal Cesar. It felt rushed. The character of Raka was such an interesting character that they quickly got rid of him. The William H. Macy character was under utilized and no depth. Also as hundreds of years after Cesar, the apes should have at least evolved somewhat. Also no set up to a sequel. This looks like a one off to me. Although very well acted and visually beautiful, and great effects, the story just felt flat to me.
Excellent comment. I felt the same. The apes not evolving and starting to create their own inventions annoyed me. It feels like 5 mins after War. They’re still relying on human weapons. The whole movie has a been there done that feel to it. I’ll be excited when we start getting to time travel and seeing the apes have their own cities and inventions
I agree with every point you made. Specifically I would have liked a visual of the apes looking more evolved instead of just talking better, like more clothing at least.
@@dezjack7846 The apes have no reason for clothing.
You’re right about them not trying to rebuild human civilization but they seemed scared of contracting simian virus. The lady wore a hazmat suit and when in contact with Mae.
@@devonb882 True to a point. But if you survived for 300 years with technology, food and Abercrombie & Fitch clothing, you are doing well for yourself.
They are milking thos franchise so much. Legit the three or 4 movies could have ben a 5 minute recap on how the apes took over. They are stretchong how apes took over in 4 movies so far
you can make this argument to any movie ever…. please shut up lil bro
You can make that argument In story telling across the board. The first three were prequels to the original but in a rebooted continuity and world. This is a continuation of that story
Cry more @wingedhussar1453
Dim.
Well the franchise literally has 2k years of story telling to work with.
The ending was not good. She was not an astronaut and humans are just there with antenas? Not good.
Yeah, I thought she was an astronaut too. I kept hoping she would take Noa and his crew back to her ship😆 would have been a nice full circle moment for this timeline.
I’ll be honest this kinda gave me Force Awakens vibes. I’m worried about the direction they’re taking this new trilogy
I really can't get into these movies. I really want to. I adore the world they are creating and the characters that inhabit them. But for some unknown reason I just can't enjoy them. I've gone to see them all in the cinema since the second one. I can't put my finger on it
Eh, everything aint for everyone lol.
I LOVE the new planet of the apes films but I feel like the glaring issue to me is that they really have a lot of trouble letting go of humans. Like the whole point of the series is to show that humans and apes are pretty much the same but they never really let the apes grow into being the focal point of the world. They keep shoehorning in human storylines that direct how the apes progress instead of just letting the apes shine for themselves.
I didn't get the hype for this film. Don't get me wrong it was decent but easily the fourth best film. Doesn't lift a candle to the films within the Caesar trilogy. The middle part really dragged for me, was waiting for more momentum. Noa was a good character of course but he's no Caesar. It wasn't terrible by any means, still good. 6.5 out of 10.
It was mid.
I couldn’t agree with you more. People keep saying it’s the best movie of the year or that it is better than war and in my opinion it was just ok.
@@johnpetty4416no one has said it’s best of the year & no one is saying it’s better than war😂 wtf you tripping. You saying nonsense
Just watched it, not terrible but definitely not as good as the trilogy. Probably should’ve let the franchise rest
Ir’s better than rise and for a sequal this is how it should be done its actually good ur buggin
@@chrislopez5301it’s not better than Rise imo, the pacing was way too slow for me and I’ve been seeing the same opinions online. The bunker humans and technology makes no sense. The apes haven’t evolved in 300 years. I was extremely disappointed. But hopefully the next one will be better
Sorry guys i dont know where the enthusiasm is...i dozed off to sleep 3 different times, the only great thing was the cgi effects, story was wack, not as good as the first 3...
Everything after the second act was terrible and made no sense. 4 out if 10.
It only didnt make sense if you werent paying attention or you dont know how to use your brain.
Paid review…Reddit says it’s ass. I always go with Reddit.
Or you should think and decide for yourself.
very idiotic ideology
There's no way this dude believes that Kingdom is anywhere near Rise, Dawn, or War. It had A- effects with a D- story.
How is the story bad? Noah is a very unique protagonist the exact opposite of Caesar for now and seeing how society woul progress past Caesars time and how many would use his name for their own profit was also an interesting direction to go. Finally the conflict of interest between the humans and apes is done a lot better In this then in dawn
I thought it was better than them all 😅
Movie was trash no kind of action
Don’t worry another mcu movie is coming
