After seeing how awesome X-Men '97 is, I really don't even care about an X-Men movie anymore. I'll be surprised if it's nearly as good as this show. How come John never talks about it?
Right like X-Men 97 set the bar pretty high. I don't think you could make a live action X-Men as good as that tbh
I don't think it set that high a bar. It was decent. Live action naturally has more potential for good drama

Long time comicbook reader, I agree that Wolverine is by far the most popular X-Men, I don’t even think that’s up for debate. With that said, I hope they would keep it with the old school team from the 60s comics and hold off on Wolverine, at least for the first film. Maybe they hint at him towards the end of the movie. But we’re about to have Hugh Jackman reprise his iconic take on the character with the Deadpool film, so I think it would be a nice little gap if they wait just a bit. Just my thoughts on it.
Bring in Wolverine the way they did I’m the ultimate comics. Make him a bad guy at first
Look, as long as they don't make Wolverine, Prof X & Magneto the main focus all the time then I'll be fine
X-Men is the whole team, they're almost like a family, nothing like the Avengers, they're all protagonist between their own stories, don't rely on just popularity, X-Men '97 has proven the love people have have for all characters, Cyclops, Rogue, Jubilee, Gambit, Storm.. characters they were done SO DIRTY before because Fox did not understood the characters and were even ASHAMED of letting them wear proper costumes.
If they want to make the X-Men the new face from their soft rebooted universe then they gotta do thigs right
I feel like I'm one of the few people that actually want there to be no wolverine in the X-Men movie but to build him up solo and have him team up with the X-Men.
Love the idea regarding overall story outside of we’ve had so many solo Wolverine movies already.

Then you do the rest of the X-Men like Cyclops jean beast gambit maybe even dazzler and just have him pop up in a smaller role unless he's super important to the plot.
I mean is a guy made of metal really the best guy to go up against the dude who controls metal.
Seems to me like he's sometimes a hindrance and battle.
The thing they must avoid doing is turning Cyclops into the cuck for Logan and jeans relationship.
When you include Thanos snap as an explaination for why "The X-men" is in the mcu it's starting to become really ridicolous in my opinion.
In the comics, there have been mutants for thousands of years, but prior to the modern heroic age, they weren't all that common. The X-Men debuted at a time when the mutant population was starting to grow at a rate that society was taking notice of. Then, years later, the size of the mutant population suddenly ballooned again, and there were tons and tons of mutants everywhere (and then M Day happened).
So the MCU could just do that. Mutation has always been a thing, but the mutant population is suddenly increasing at a higher rate and people are taking notice. Charles and Eric and Logan and Mystique and En Sabah Nur (Apocalypse) can be old mutants, but most will be young.
Why would Mystique be old? Fox destroyed her origin story.
@@dominiqueblock7143 In the comics, Mystique was born in the 1800's. She was around to know Logan in the early 1900's and she even met Nathanial Essex back when he had only recently become Sinister in the late 1800's. You can't tell how old she is because her shapeshifting powers give her control over her appearance.

Kevin Feige has shown in the past that he loves the Marvel comics source material and how he wants to do right by the comic book readers, I believe the first X-Men movie will feature the original team: Cyclops, Ms. Marvel, Beast, Ice-Man, and Angel. But that does not exclude additional movies focused on Wolverine and the "new" X-Men team (with Storm, Collosus, Rogue, etc.)

Keep Wolverine out of the first MCU X-Men movie. Have him appear in its post credits scene. Wolverine can be in his own movie before joining the X-Men
He's had a whole trilogy was basically the lead in 4 films have him in there but not a lead character have him be a proper supporting character or say were not gonna focus on him and as you said tease him in a post credit scene
the problem would be how to fix quicksilver and scarlet witch, we all know they are important characters in both comics and MCU films especially that they are magneto's children...now if ever, multiverse will fix it, it needs a good writing...

Just look at real life, people hate on people for anything, especially if it’s like an emergent group. people will find reasons to hate them, even if they aren’t “villains”. Real answer is they are from a different earth, and after secret wars a new multiverse will be created and people will hate the mutants going forward.

Not sure how we didn’t mention X-Men 97 not once in the whole video. The dopest adaptation of X-Men on screen and Wolverine isn’t the main focus.
This is just me when it comes to the X-Men in the MCU. Kang pruned most mutants from the sacred timeline. Or just enough for them to not be an issue. He had the TVA take Sophie as a little girl. How horrifying would it be if he did that to a bunch of kids when their X gene activated at puberty?
It's so annoying when people just hate on Wolverine being in the X-Men. He is easily the most popular X-men because he is the 2nd most popular Marvel character. (Spider-man being number 1). And John is exactly right. First Class came AFTER the X-Men movies that had Wolverine.
I'm not saying Wolverine needs to be the focal point. I honestly hope it is done like the Avengers where we have balance and focus on many of the characters and not really just having one main character. But Wolverine is popular and needs to be a part of the MCU.

Sure, but Hugh Jackman is still fresh on people’s mind. Wolverine is popular, but he’s been done in the movies…for decades. A lot of fans didn’t want him to come back because Logan was the perfect end for that character. I’m fine with focusing on other X-Men first. So many of them deserve proper adaptations, e.g. Storm, Rogue, Cyclops, etc.

I'm just saying what John is saying, that the 2nd most popular Marvel character, the most popular X-Men character needs to be in the MCU. You don't get the rights back to the X-Men and not include him. (Obviously they could. Know what knows what direction they are going in)
I've said this a million times, but you don't need to make him the main character like Fox did (although I think they did the right thing and the popularity of the character in the movies sort of proves that), but you make him an integral part of the team. Again.. like the Avengers did. Thor is my favorite Avenger and didn't feel he lost anything in the team movies. He had his awesome moments just like Iron-man and Cap did. And having him on the team and not using him like they did in '97 is also not the way to go about it. Have each team member matter and have their moments to shine.
It is interesting though.. in the comics, Wolverine is the only X-men character to have a long running solo title. They tried with others and they didn't sell. Even the upcoming Storm (one of my all time favorites) title is only a 6 issue mini series.. probably explaining her leaving the X-men for the Avengers. Wolverine is the only character to thrive in not just team books, but also solo. And like you said the general audience may not read comics, but Logan is one of the best movies.. sure the other's weren't as great, but he did have his solo movies as well. It could very well be that self fulfilling prophecy though. They were going to do a Magneto movie, but didn't.

Would love to see them not start off with Wolverine. Gives them a chance for Xavier to take Logan in later and help tame his feral side post Weapon X. Also give character like Cyclops time to shine and be developed first, felt like he was always in wolverine’s shadow in the first trilogy
Unless they’re going to be pulled in from another universe and time, they’ll have a problem bringing in Magneto.
With his WWII background, he’d have to be in his ‘90s in the current day. Or they’d have to do it in a previous decade. But then the MCU’s timeline gets so confusing
Theory time: A mutant within the MCU (maybe Xavier) has wiped mutant existence from Earth's memory due to generations of discrimination. Mutants in the MCU currently live on the island of Krakoa (a place only accessible to mutants) - minus all the mutants born after the transition to Krakoa. The mutants outwardly wondering Earth hadn't had their mutant gene activated until the snap - which is why no mutant has intervened thus far - and this activation has taken some years to fully manifest. Somehow the veil over Earth's memory is lifted (maybe Xavier sees they have no other choice but to return to civilization), bringing back memories of mutant existence. The memory return would also bring back the memory of Peter Parker/anyone else "removed" from memory. This way you get to keep the history of certain characters while also explaining where the others have been this whole time, and tie it in to the the greater MCU plotline.
The iteration of the team and what time/age they live in is going to dictate weather I’m excited for this IP. Who’s with me???
With all stuff that got pushed back and only doing 2 movies a year, I’d be shocked if this film comes out any time before 2028
2027 would be the earliest in any case.
The smart thing would be to have a lineup of all the popular characters which is mainly the Fox X-men team. But Rogue, Storm, Angel, Gambit, and Emma should get more focus.

OK, so he is a bold enough riter to adapt Shakespeare. So he might dare to do anything. So best case scenario, he reads all the significant runs of X-Men. so Kirby Adams, Claremont Cochrum what’s his name etc. he’s probably seen the movies so then he asks himself what can he bring to the table that honors the past but is itself something new like can we have something as good as Logan? Could we have a space epic worthy of dark Phoenix? could we have an actual love triangle with actual jealousy?
Man what they’re gonna do is the secret wars storyline there’s a universe that has beast and one of our characters just crossed to that universe what’s gonna happen is that that even of Monica crossing is gonna trigger an incursion and we’re gonna see all our favorite characters like this is not me guessing this is just what they’ve shown us and explained to us already
My thoughts regarding the Wolverine character and the new X-Men live action film would to bring in Wolverine midway in the movie and have him join for his first time joining or choosing not to join the X-Men. Similar to what we had with the first X-Men movie, but not from the point of view of Wolverine. This way you can focus more on the X Men team to show how strong they are without Wolverine but later adding him into the mix to make the team look more unstoppable 😊

To Rob's point on them using the snap as a catalyst - though they could also use Ironman's as well - it does not remove the history of Magneto and Xavier. Let's say the two are about 60, so born in the 60's, and the school doesn't open up till the 80's, maybe even 90's. They can still be mutants - one of a very select few, let's say literally 1 in a million, in let's use 1997 for obvious reasons - out of 5.896 billion people on the planet, 5896 are mutants. That sounds big - but is .000001% of the population. Within the 195 recognized countries in the UN - the average would be 30 per country, meaning in the US - there would be less than 1 per state. They could easily fly under the radar - someone like Nightcrawler could be a one off 'freak' in most peoples minds while Sabertooth is mistaken for bigfoot if he's in the wild. However - if one or both Earth based snaps activated latent genes - causing a quantum leap in evolution and increased rate of mutations - well, now suddenly you have your thousands of kids suddenly developing weird traits and crazy powers, which would create panic and fear, that then leads to the usual discrimination. Cause what if in the span of at that point 7-8 years from the first snap the total number of mutants has jumped to 586,900 mutants. Now your talking 3000 just in the US averaging 60 per state - higher chances of a run in. And that it has become more 'normal' for it to activate in teenagers now with it having been primed by the snap but not showing till puberty. It's kinda like when you start doing the math with the Jedi in Star Wars - at their peak of 10,000 compared to all the worlds/systems in the Republic it's something like 1 Jedi for every 2 planets or systems I forget which, meaning seeing one and interacting with them was likely pretty rare on many worlds.
Also - as far as a team, given Disney's current track record (and especially after bringing Jackman back in Deadpool), I'd take a guess that the most likely team is Cyclops, Jean Grey (who hopefully stays a red head/ginger), Jubilee, Gambit, Wolverine (X-23), Rogue, and Storm. With a chance at a few others having some role. Cyclops and Jean are kinda cornerstones of the team so they are kind of a no brainer. Gambit, Rogue, and Storm are also fairly popular characters from the team - one of whom was noticeably left out of the live actions movies for the most part. Jubilee aside from being a background character in the movies despite more of a role in the Animated series - which hey they did just bring back, does add a bit more diversity to the team. And I'm sure some people are foaming at the mouth at me even suggesting the idea we get the X-23 version of Wolverine instead of the usual version, but aside from checking boxes on Disney's lists - they brought Jackman back as Wolverine, and even gave him the 'yellow spandex', at that point it's almost unfair to bring in some new guy to fill his shoes which was already going to be hard if he stayed retired after Logan. Plus - who's to say that by going to X-23 in the role on the main team, maintaining a ball of rage with adamantium claws on it, it doesn't open the door for us seeing more of Jackman - just as a version that's aged a bit more and retired so is more of a teacher/dad who occasionally fights, which means maybe Jackman doesn't have to get in the same insane shape and maybe gets to play something that's similar but different that's more appealing to him after the previous more than 20 years.

John going by your logic that First Class had 4 X-Men movies with Wolverine before it, well then that means the MCU will have 10 movies with Wolverine before it and you can’t say “that’s different because it was a different studio/universe”. Because it’s no different than Fox’s “continuity schmontinuity” anyway so yeah the MCU X-Men can absolutely do several movies before bringing in Wolverine, and honestly I think it would be refreshing to see it.
Well for now it looks like our Main X-Men are going to be Multiversal meaning the FoXmen we'll get a movie prior to Secret Wars. But after this Multiverse Saga they should just reboot everything.
I think if marvel wants to be different make gambit the focus of the movie ala wolverine in the first og movies and have wolverine already part of the X-men to be the cyclops to gambits Wolverine type figure

By the time that they introduce them I hope that superheroes are in a bad space and disgraced after hiding the incursion for the world, before they get popular again after saving the day, if not they could do house of X by Jonathan Hickman where they have changed the timeline like they may do in the Deadpool movie, but we'll see what happens there.
you can’t have another where was this group during the whole infinity saga I think they just have to merge the mcu with an x-men universe to stop the incursion to make this all work
Bringing the XMen into the MCU is tricky. The most logical way to do it is via the multiverse(similar to the Fantastic 4). To get the most out of it, theyd have to keep it separate from the main 616 though, bc you’re not just dealing with the team, but their villains and their persecution by humanity. You can’t say theyve been operating in secrecy in the 616.

Ms marvel was alright.
I think the best way to bring in the Xmen is after battle world/incursions. At this point the people of the world are sick of superheroes/villians, cause they keep inviting destruction and problems. So the government makes an initiative that there will be no more super powered people in order to keep the people safe. This fits in the line of where the Xmen are hunted(the storyline of the Xmen)
No way this comes out before secret wars
They could inspire in X-men evolution. In the beggining neither Professor X nor Magneto wanted mankind to know about mutant existence. They all worked in the shadow.
Is Wolverine the most popular Xmen member? Yes.
Can a film succeed without him? Yes. At least in the MCU. They have access to a huge library of characters now. The first X film could be the original cast and hint at Wolverine in post credits. I dont see them doing an entire trilogy without him though

A big, big problem with the x-men franchise in the movies is the Wolverine focus. Bring him in the second movie. Let people fall in love with Cyclops, Jean and Bobby. The whole thing about the MCU is that they made everyone fall in love with characters no one cared much before, and after Beau Demayo homerun in 97, some of these gained a lot of momentum.
I wouldn't mind bringing Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio into the MCU along with Deadpool. The actresses are both young enough and also independent enough from the Fox X-men to make their inclusion work.

The idea of the the X-Men always having been here didn’t make much sense to me. But it just clicked that this could actually work out really well if they did that. Because part of the thing we gotta figure out is why I half the world hate the X-Men, but then some of those same people love the avengers. Meaning it has the hate has nothing to do with your powers or mutation. So what they could say that the reason why some people hate the X-Men is because they could’ve helped humanity with Thanos and they chose not to.
That's not bad actually but at this point if they do decide to make this film before the reboot. They should just give us a Xmen in another Universe at this point

I can help feel the ruined this somehow my whole take on this has been they should do a soft reboot, but they won’t because they won big endgame like movies. If it was up to me, they would start with solo movies like they did with Iron Man, Thor and Captain America eventually leading to an X-Men team up it would be a 5 to 10 year project with several X-Men movies sprinkled with several solo movies all while adding in new avengers to replace all the ones that we’ve lost including a new Iron Man.
They have already REbooted the X-Men. ITs going to be like the Fantastic Four. A multiverse team that looks more like the comics but Is reminiscent of the Fox Movies. After Avengers 6 The Fantastic Four and X-Men will be brought in to the sacred timeline. The Team from the end of The Marvels is the new rebooted team. I also think they will Give Wolverine an on going Disney Plus show, that will take place in different times of the MCU as wolverine is going through history.
So basically the Fox Cast will play the 90s X-Men. And after Secret Wars everything will get rebooted
@@TioJones-lm1zi no reboot how you put it is happening. In the comics, with secret wars 2015 which this movie is based on, they brought in Miles Morales from the Ultimate Comics. They are doing the same thing with the F4. Their 1960's alternate reality will be destroyed, but they will be brought into our world. The same with the X-Men they have already established in the Marvels.
They dont even need to kill off the X characters. All htey have to do is bring in newer characters and make it look more like the comics that are out there now. like what they are already doing with the Avengers.

@@TioJones-lm1zi most likely not.they dont do actual stories from the comics. just loosely based. just look at the avengers roster. it resembles the more modern avengers comics, but the stories are far from what is in the comics.
I think they should use the multiverse and use the fox x men characters and probably the spidermen , go back in time and grab iron man black widow and captain America and go into secret wars and go out with a bang then reboot and start completely new and fresh with new actors to play them all , Sony just can’t get Spider-Man right so they’ll sell him back to marvel then they start new with everyone …..BOOM!!!
I would've preferred an X-men live action tv show. I can see it being a really stacked movie, like Eternals was, and I can see it flop. And with the Multiverse not-working shit, Ugh! I read something about someone saying a theory, way before MoM was out, that Wanda will do the OPPOSITE of what she did in the comics, because she is upset how the people hated her because she has powers in Wandavision, she would say "More Mutants" instead of "NO MORE MUTANTS". That would've been an awesome idea to bring them into the main universe. I don't want the X-men to be from another dimensions. Multiverse did NOT work, Disney!!!! But the messed Wanda's story now as well! Such idiots!!!!

The problem I'd have with introducing a new Wolverine immediately is that we've already gotten a good farewell to the character in Logan. Presumably, we'll get another farewell in Deadpool & Wolverine. Getting yet another Wolverine immediately after that would just feel cheap to me. Similarly to how redoing the Phoenix Saga felt cheap in the Fox outings. I don't want the same characters and the same storylines repeated again and again and again. I'd much rather see something new.
