    I had the hesitation when accelerating. Watched the video and then moved the accelerator pump rod to the top hole and now it's GREAT! 350 Chevy - 400 hp. ** THANK YOU **

    I am in the final stages of tuning a 1405 on a 302 and experienced the same issue described in this video. For me the fix was to remove absolutely ALL play in the linkage, by adjusting the bend angle, so that the accelerator pump is activated immediately when the throttle is depressed.

  • @EdelbrockTV
    @EdelbrockTV  Před 11 lety +6

    Richard, the next step and the only way to cure the idle mixture screw
    to become responsive is to remove the top lid from the main body and
    re-adjust the float level. Make sure you use a 7/16" drill bit as a
    measuring tool and you want it to slide or roll under the float HALF WAY
    before the bit raises the float. The idle screw will now become
    adjustable again.

    Super helpful. In idle I'd blip the throttle and it would have that hesitation you described. I moved the accelerator linkage to the top hole and that provided a bigger squirt of fuel until the main jets could take over.

    My edlebrock hesitated while just tipping the throttle for years, nothing I tried worked. NOW it is FIXED after looking carefully at the throttle butterflies and found the 4 screws loose. So I made sure the butterflies can fit perfectly in the completely closed position then tighten screws very firmly.
    Now the idle stays put and it drives like a fuel injection engine. Perfect tip in but I wish I would have found this problem 10 years ago.
    Even if your screws are not loose the butterflies can still be center better than edlebrock's assemblers.
    FYI even though my screws were loose they can't fall in your engine. I'm not sure how but I tried to take my screws out but they got harder to turn so I left them in and tried to use lock tight the best I could. Can't hurt. Good luck.

    Move the pump link up to the top hole, closest to the top of the
    careburetor.

    Also with a bigger cam, change out to a heavier spring. In my case I used the silver spring from the strip kit. Now I have a slight hesitation while driving. So next is leaner, or richer jeys, and rods.

    I have my 1405 on my 289 set to the top whole is it's VERY responsive... I've been have a stumble or rpm drop on braking and turning though, I'm guessing a float adjustment is needed... just not sure which way to go with it...

  • @EdelbrockTV
    @EdelbrockTV  Před 11 lety +3

    There are other ways to improve off idle hesitation, lighter step up springs, larger squirter/nozzle, smaller larger number on metering rod. Also initial distributor timing plays a roll in all of this.

    I have a hopped up Chevy K10 with a 350 and Edelbrock 1403 carb. When I first had the truck I could smash the gas and burn rubber. The tail end would slide out too. After being able to do that a few times, it stopped having that initial punch of power. Now it just slowly builds from a stop. It's like I didn't even floor it at all. What's weird is that on the highway the secondaries snap open just fine. They won't do it from a stop though. What's my issue?

    To be honest. I hardly drive my 63 with 327 small block 1406 edlebrock carb. I can get it to start with starter fluid. But would die out. The bowl shows gas. But still dies out? Is it a bad floater ? Thank you in advance.

  • @EdelbrockTV
    @EdelbrockTV  Před 11 lety

    Just to set the record straight. Edelbrock Carburetors are NOT made by Carter. They have up until last year been built by Magnetti Marelli/Weber USA, here in the USA. The division which has been subsequently purchased by Edelbrock, LLC. The Edelbrock Carburetor was originally based on the Carter design but was re-designed with more efficient booster clusters back in 1989.

    68 chevy c30 327 manual had a horrible bog and stumble, replaced it with a new manual choke edelbrock. Installed, adjusted idle, and ran like a bat outa hell. Then about a mile down the road it started stumbling and bogging horribly. Now I can't even get out of my driveway it bogs and stumbles so bad. Cap, plugs, coil, wires are all new. Timing at idle is at 15 degrees. Idles and revs then randomly dies. No vacuum leaks. I'm thinking it's bad gas

    My problem is my gaspedal. When i put my foot to it very gently it will take off normaly but when I push just a little bit harder past the tough spot it will slam down and give way too much gas. Cable/lever seem to be running free. Ever heard of this problem before?

    Ok-I'm in desperate need of help!! Got 351C with edelbrock 650 Thunder AVS. Secondaries will not mechanincally open at WOT. Looks like there is a linkage or some sort of cam that hangs loosely on drivers side of carb that hangs up secondaries from opening?? Can this cam be removed? What is its purpose-it just hangs loosely?? Its a 73 mustang with fmx trans and I used correct throttle adapter.

    Hope someone can help me. Got a rebuilt 351C with edelbrock 650. Was running and then a stumble/hesitation appeared at idle, it was idling rough. Now engine will not remain running at idle? Runs rough with accelerator held, but dies immediately at idle. Is this carbuerator issue? Changed fuel filter-fuel is new and was treated with Stabil 360. Removed Idle air mixture screws and blew air through circuit and changed fuel filter with no success. Is it possible something is clogged? If so, how do I fix this. Carb is less than a year old and only has about 700 miles on it.

Tried moving accelerator pump rod, new plugs, fully charged battery. Theres a Reason why Edlebrocks are considered JUNK.. I wasted $400 on this carb because it fit my stock application without moving things around. Ill send it back to Summit and buy a Holley. Im OK with having to move my coil, use braided fuel lines etc to have my car run right.. Totally disappointed in the Edelbrock carb. Even ona 335 HP stock engine..
