I had a little league coach like him for a couple years. Best coach we ever had. He would joke around with us and "be mean" to us like this but we knew it was all a joke and actually made us all feel much more comfortable with our mistakes. The last year he coached he coached the "spill over team" that always had the newer kids on it that didnt really know what they were doing. Myself and my buddy joined it to help fill out the roster and, even tho it was the worst players we ever played with, we had the most fun because the coach wasn't focused on actually winning, but about improving personal skills and having fun.
I coached a T-ball team that was the spill-over team and we lost all of the games except one we played against an out of town team. The next year they won the tournament. I did not coach like this guy. I encouraged them to do better instead of constantly berating them. People like doing better more than joking around.
wow This is amazing! these kids are having a friggin blast! what a way to subvert the "macho overbearing coach" stereotype and enforce confidence and calmness in these kids. instead of having favorites and treating some kids better than others simply because they are better at the game, this coach makes fun of each of them equally so they are all on the same level. They will perform better than ANY stressed out kid because they are having so much fun they dont have time to "worry" about winning- they want to win because THEY want to not because their coach is going to be upset if they lose. These are obviously some A-1 kids too if they are able to roll with the punches like this. incredible.
Awesome way of keeping the kids loose we use to do the same with the boys on our little league team it's okay to kick them in the butt at times but a pat on the back or a few jokes can also motivate kids

There are gonna be people that think that the coach is being serious. On another note, This is a really fun way of bonding with the kids. Thank the lord they understand you got jokes 😂😂😂
I used to joke with my boys before the game too. It really takes a lot of pressure off them to be perfect on the field and just have fun and they're more relaxed to do their best. 1 joke I had was when we saw how tall and better equipped the opponents were even with names on their jerseys. I told them, "sure they have all that...and a better record... and expensive sponsors. But at the end of the game, just remember....they will still get all the girls, even if they lose! So don't sweat it!"
The boys may laugh, but they feel there is nothing they can do to get better and they haven't been getting better, but still laughing. They aren't expected to get any better.
This is how you get kids in 2020 interested in Baseball and playing a team sport. It's not about screaming at kids and yelling at them and your angry parent in the stands yelling...its about letting kids be kids and have fun. Its little league not MLB.
My coach used to say "You got hair on your nuts now Green!! NO MORE EXCUSES." I was like "Coach i'm 8... But I get what you're trying to say !" Kids aren't stupid & actually don't even want a participation trophy. Glad to see this coach gets that.

Great coach. My son had a coach once who micro managed every pitch. All the kids were unhappy, including and especially the coaches son.
Both coaches spent their time finding fault instead of pointing out and encouraging success.
