Since you bring up Led Zeppelin, you might want to check out Tool's cover of No Quarter from their live album Salival if you haven't already. They do exactly what you praise them for here and take the old song but make it sound like a Tool original.

      @studentaccount345 Před rokem

It's a reference to completion or perfection in numerology. Tool is heavily influenced by kabbalah and occultism and the themes are in most of the music. The "Tempest" is a great storm, like the flood in the book of Genesis in Torah where the earth was destroyed and then restored. This explains a lot about the song's lyrics and rhythms.

The sense of completion at the end of song with the last fills from Danny, unparalleled.
Amazing reaction John, you did awesome on this Fear Inoculum journey.
I can tell you did love the album and especially the last two songs (Culling Voices & 7empest), at least with your first listen.
The engineering on this album is just out of this world to me.
7empest is the final boss of Fear Inoculum, just like Third Eye was to Aenema, the Holy Trinity to Lateralus and Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned to 10,000 Days.
Everybody is at their A-game here but just look at Adam, shining with his talent and Les Paul.
Going full solo for 4 minutes in the middle of the song and it's not even a real "solo" per se. It's just so well blended into the song.
Playing this on guitar, I just have a blast every single time.
16-minutes song here, did you even notice it ? I didn't. And I've played and listened to it at least a 1000 times by now.
Still Mocking Beat left before closing this amazing Fear Inoculum chapter.
With these lasts reactions videos, you really built up your TOOL fanbase I can guarantee you ahah.
If you're feeling like it, it would be awesome to have you react (again) to the previous albums, I'm sure you don't remember all their songs from then so just share your journey with us. I know I won't be the only one suggesting this to you.
    Keep it up !
NB : do not skip their video ad on Adam 1979 Les Paul signature guitar called "The Witness". It's Adam, Justin and Danny (only Maynard missing) for 7 minutes straight of pure bliss, just for an ad !

It's interesting that you said that "Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned" is the 'final boss' on "10,000 Days" because in my mind it is "Intension/Right In Two". I love "LK/RS" too, but as far as songs that put a stamp on it, "Intension/Right In Two" would be my pick for that album.

@@gosborg No problem ! I am not the best guitarist in the world for sure but being passionate about TOOL and guitar just made me find the will to keep pushing forward to learn the songs I guess. It really helps if you can find some material to help you. CZcams is a great example. Maybe you know already but check LeoBassCovers CZcams channel, he is a great bass player who does tabs for bass. For guitar there is Max Niessl, without all the work he put in doing those guitar tabs I would not have been able to learn all these songs !

Interesting that no-one has mentioned the King Crimson reference in 7empest, yet. The shifting polyrhythmic lines from the intro are almost 100% straight from their 1981 'Frame By Frame', only slowed down. If I remember correctly, it was Fripp and Adrian Belew playing in 15/8 vs 14/8 against each other, or something similar, only playing in unison whenever the two metres lined up. So there you have it, Crimson and Zeppelin combined in one epic song, a match made in heaven.

I've been a tool fan since back when Undertow came out. They've been my favorite band since then, regardless of how long it had been between albums. One of my favorite things about them is that each album is an evolution from the last. They may give you a taste of what's to come on each album (like a song that stands out as a little different at the time, but rests completely within the next album) while still maintaining a full album feel throughout. One thing I noticed in my first listen to this song is how much the breakdown at around the 11:30 mark harkens back to the Undertow album. It feels like they took a step back in time for just that section of music. Absolutely love this track...

Have watched more than a few reactions, and honestly have enjoyed your series the most. You appreciate the music first without trying to solve the lyrical puzzle (which destroys many a reaction vid). Now you can research and re-enjoy them at your own pace. If you want to delve into further mathematical genius, try Lateralus by Tool next. Loudwire listed it as #1 on the Top 50 Best Metal Songs of the 21st Century, and a huge reason for it comes down the the math behind the song (from many angles). You may want to read up on the song first before listening to it (this won't spoil your reaction, only open it further as to the "why") as your ear will then be able to pick up sequencing details layered and throughout. Enjoy your journey!

The "7" in "7empest", the way I choose to see it, represents it being the 7th song on the album with lyrics (counting "Legion Inoculant"). Some could say that "Legion Inoculant" doesn’t count as a song with lyrics when the only lyrics are samples from the title track, but to that I just say keep in mind that throughout all of the different CD and vinyl versions TOOL left out "Litanie contre la Peur" but kept "Legion Inoculant"!

Have you listened to the Salival album? If you haven't the pushit version on that album will blow you away. And their cover of led Zeppelin no quarter..since you got a zep vibe at the beginning of this song

Really like your Tool reactions, that's what brought me to your channel. I've been tool army since 93', when I heard Sober(Don't think you've done one that one yet, it's off their first full album Undertow, the live performance from the Reading festival is awesome), it blew me away. The bass line and the way Danny's drives the song forward with his high hat, it was unlike anything out at the time.
I hope you do more Tool, you won't be disappointed. Go back to Opiate, EP 92', you can see the development.
I would like to see you react to another favorite of my from the 90's. Helmet. Heavy bass and drum driven. Killer guitar riffs and great outro's. For a album reaction I suggest "Betty"... songs I suggest...1. Milquetoast...2. Unsung...3 In the meantime...4. Tic
Another must do is...Rage Against the Machine...Funk metal with one of the most unique guitarist ever, a rap like Singer and Anti establishment lyrics.
    Keep up the good work....
    Spiral out...keep going...

I so enjoy your unique perspective coupled with your enthusiasm. You really enhance the experience and enjoyment of the song. As to 7empest itself, it is simply mesmeric. A true masterpiece. I think Shakespeare would have loved it and I’m sure the reference is intentional.

From what I understand from an Adam Jones interview, 7 kept coming up in their time signatures (they don't intentionally write in a specific time signature) so as 7/x timing kept coming up there was also the idea that Fear Inoculum was their 7th release (Optiate, Undertow, Aenima, Salival, Lateralus, 10000 Days, Fear Inoculum), so they sort of took it as a sign from the Universe.

    • @_7empest_10

Adam Jones also said that when they first spoke to Alex Grey about art for this album, Alex said he was feeling something about the number 7. Funny how those guys are so in tune with each other.

Adam Jones is a genius in how he uses the guitar for textures instead of riffs. He lets Justin Chancellor handle the riffs, which he does with absolute brilliance. This entire album is outstanding.
I think it's also interesting that there's so little Maynard on the album. I can't help but wonder if he has become aware of the Tool reaction crowd, who so often focuses on him and Danny Carey, and decided to step back even more than he normally does to let the rest of the band take more of the spotlight. He doesn't really like it anyway.

I heard the song Jambi by tool in a compilation of heavy rock bands. Blew me away... been playing them every since..
Gutted I missed them for years..
They get better with every listen..so much to them..
Watch the Danny Carey pneuma vids..phenomenal..
He did mention it was partly mathematical..for me can't hear it & don't matter cause it all works together..the journey of the songs.
Reminds me of a cross or mixture or Metallica + Yes + led zeppelin but brought up to date..just awesome..
Nirvana have always been top band for me but can't stop playing these guys songs...got everything.
Hope that makes sense..just had to say it..
