Patriarchy is literally about protecting women from bad men and bad women. Patriarchy comes from “father”.

      Rule of fathers.

    • @bufordhighwater9872
      @bufordhighwater9872 Před 3 měsíci +1

Technically speaking, "patriarchy" and "father" both come from the Greek, πάτερ/πατέρ. Interestingly father entered the English language before patriarch or patriarchy, but patriarchy is the older word with the more direct lineage to the Greek by way of Middle French, while father came to English by way of Old High German.

Convincing these women that being a 304 is wrong is like trying to convince a 5yr old that eating cake is bad for them. They might agree, but they'll eat as much cake as you put in front of them. Patriarchy is the salvation of women!

Exactly. The standard of today's society is selfish consumption. Just like what Knowles said in this clip about following lower brain appetites. Imagine a sovereign society of children. They would democratically decide that eating only cake and ice cream is beneficial, and that eating vegetables was a parentarchal conspiracy to oppress children. Feminists use that same logic. Having rules for good behavior is not oppression. Many people think, and argue, the opposite, however. It's not "hurting" anyone to only eat cake and ice cream, but it does damage individuals and broader society to set a norm like that. Enforcing any rule, or standard, requires some element of force, and people perceive that to be violent oppression.

Hypocrisy consists in declaring, for the sake of appearances, that you believe in certain moral standards, when in fact you don't believe in them and don't try to live according to them. The people that have it the worst are the working class that make just enough not to qualify for assistance, but don't make nearly enough to pay all these ridiculous co-pays, donut holes and other exorbitant medical bills. These are the people that work multiple jobs. They eat whatever food they can afford, not what is organic and healthy. They are caught in that gray area between the entitlement class and the wealthy who have Cadillac health care plans. These are the people that can't afford to have children and worry constantly about how to pay their rent, utilities and insurance payments. They are usually one catastrophic event away from living in their car. Often raised to take care of themselves, they haven't learned yet how to work the entitlement system and fall thru the cracks. In the last century the church and charities would often step in. Now everything is given over to the government, which is probably the most inefficient and corrupt organization that exists to administer any program.

I love when she says that men are louder because they speak more words per minute. That is misleading. Its women 220 men 223. That means that on average it takes LESS time for a man to say the same amount of words than it does for a women. But it gets worse... total words a day is women 16215 and men 15669. So even though women take longer to say the same amount of words... they also speak way more words in a day... so by the end of the day the total amount of time women spend talking is much more than men. When using her own method... women are louder than men.

As an Atheist, this guy is so full of it. He is doing the "no christian/Scotsman fallacy" on protestantarianism, etc.
But I find the woman's tone too hostile and confrontational.
If I was her I would have just said to him, without proving your religion has any basis in reality how can I take anything you say about anything because of your religion seriously.
All the studies he quoted are interesting, but without reading them, how can we have any opinion about what he claimed they showed. It's all hearsay.
I'm afraid the Whatever podcast is not the place for serious debates.

The studies are freely available on Google, so anyone can fact check what he's saying. You just have an axe to grind because he's of a different belief system than your own. There's also countless studies/multi-varied-meta analysis that has consistently shown those with religion rank higher in happiness, lower in mental illness, and donate more, along with more frequently, to charity. The last one shouldn't be surprising seeing as how some 40-60% of sub-saharan Africa's Healthcare is from Christianity specifically.
He was also correct on the difference in rates of abuse between preachers/religious leaders and public schools teachers. You'll be hard pressed to find a source that doesn't suggest the near highest rates of abuse are among public school teachers. It makes sense when you think of a job that gives you access to a community of people's children 6-8 hours a day, and that simultaneously puts you in a position of power/trust.
I'll end by saying I was hoping he would ask them why 90% of the abuse in the catholic church was male on male, or a certain community the left loves to champion. Also why they have higher rates of abuse in comparison to the general population..

@nunyafukinbizness "The studies are online." Well, there is a lot of stuff that is online including these posts. It doesn't make them true, unbiased or objective. If giving to charity includes giving to the church or a religious charity is that really the same thing as giving to a directly to charity?
And even if "religion" makes you happy, reduces mental illness, causes lasting long term relationships, it doesn't mean it is true, especially when "religion" is a blanket term for a near infinity of contradicting religious sects only ONE of which can possibly be true.
The only good reason to believe something is because it is at least more likely to be true than false. Advising an Atheist to believe in God for any other reason is pissing upwind. What you believe is not a choice, so statistics ain't going to do it. That said I am sure motivated Atheists could collect and quote statistics that make atheism look good.

Michael is very moral and inciteful. I can relate to him coming from a traditional Catholic italian family myself. He should push back more instead of letting them get away with spouting bullshit like lower crime, violence etc. Its actually so much worse since biden and neo liberalism came to power.

Their point is that crime and violence have been on a decline for 30 years, a small uptick since 2020 isn't indicative of a worsening society. Gotta listen to their entire argument. Neo Liberalism has been in power basically since Bush.
