"Guys! Leon Kennedy is totally my best friend... we just work at different police departments. It's totally true, just believe me!" -Ark Thompson, probably
I always had this headcanon that Ark and Leon were classmates at the police academy and that's how they knew each other. Leon joined the RPD after graduating and Ark decided to be a private detective instead
This game has a really promising concept. The backstory of Umbrella persuading and luring children in by taking them to arcades and amusement parks only to abduct them to use for experiments is utterly horrifying and could be done justice with a reimagining.
Just started watching, but anyone realise Ark Thompson design is remade in Village for Ethan and the kid in yellow can be seen (his design and colour palette anyway) as the kid in Darkstalkers who helps Phobos (depending on which colour you select)... Kinda funny Edit: I don't think it's intentional, but if it was mildly then that is funny
Right there with you for Survivor getting a reimagining, especially since timeline wise, it comes before Code Veronica. And 7 and Village prove they can do first person justice. Capcom, give Ark Thompson some love!
Unironically, I want that hypothetical fanfiction remake that Suzi described. I legit want that, considering I thought Ark's amnesia *thing* as gaslighting himself into the villainous role was incredibly compelling. One of those "blind squirrel finding a nut" things, and having it executed better would be incredibly cool, especially if we're doubling down on how dark Sheena Island's lore really is. Great vid, and a great time. Thank you for your hard work on this one, Suzi!
This would actually be amazing if they remade it I love survivor so much but i can acknowledge the obvious flaws i want to see it dont better but first I'd love to see code Veronica get a proper remake
I LOVE the fact that he has to say his whole name "Leon S. Kennedy" as though people couldn't put 2 and 2 together if he just said "Leon" or better yet, refer to him by him middle name "Scott" so they can then come up with a convoluted reason why Leon used his middle name for some time.
That message reminded me of the messages the Joker left on Bruce's answering machine in "Arkham Knight". "Bruce, it's your mother calling now..." "Bruce, this is your father calling. I think it's time we had a talk son, you know, about the dressing up..." 😆
I would really have loved to play this with a light gun and see how it holds up! And I guess I'll have to go back and read the files! This is what I get for skipping them lol
I bought a light only to play this game and man, this is amazing! And the gun aim is so accurate. Only problem is that you need a ctr tv and the gun itself :/
When I was much younger I begged my dad for a japanese copy before it came to the states. Somehow we managed to get one. I honestly loved this game when I was a kid. It was my favorite RE cause it was the only one I could beat without a gameshark or cheats lol
it holds up VERY well. Like, all the gripes I had over it went away very quickly with how fun the lightgun gameplay actually is. The closest I'd put it at is an archaic version of RE4 Wii
It does not hold up, trust me.. Playing Survivor with the GunCon is terrible, the control layout is really bad and confusing, playing the game like that is way harder than with the standard controller. But, playing Dead Aim with the GunCon 2 is a blast, the controls are perfect, I'll never play Dead Aim again using the normal controller.
I have so much nostalgia for this game! When I was 7-8 I met my best friend at school and the 1st time I spent the night at his place he put this game on and we played it all night but didn't beat it. Every time I went over we always got a lil bit further until the day came and we actually beat the game. Those sleep overs were some of my fondest childhood memories and its all thank to this game! My best friend isn't with us anymore and it just makes those memories more precious. Thanks for giving this game the spotlight it deserves!
Sheena Island as a Tyrant production facility interests me. Just imagine multiple pursuers with different abilities chasing you. One uses weapons so don't fight it, one flys so avoid roofs and open areas, and one's electric so avoid facing it in water. This alone can carry an RE game.
11:47 Actually, this game WAS released with GunCon support "in the West": here in Europe it was released as "Gun Survivor" just like in Japan and you could use the official PS1 light-gun with it. It wasn't that much fun though: to move, you had to aim the gun slightly below the screen and press the trigger. Pressing it very fast would make you run. You could turn by pressing the A and B buttons on the gun's left and right side. It was very frustrating and very often you would find yourself either shooting when you were supposed to move or the other way around. The only upside when compared to using the controller was that you didn't have to manually move the crosshair - you just had to point the gun at the enemy and fire. But, as with any PS1 light-gun game, it only worked fine if you had the gun properly calibrated before each play (those who played the domestic edition of "Time Crisis" know what I am talking about - you could spend up to 20 minutes to get the damn thing to shoot straight, depending on a number of factors including the make and age of your TV set). Moreover, this game was only granted to work with the GunCon (hence why I said "official PS1 light-gun" earlier): at that time there was a whole industry of third-party manufacturers of PS1 peripherals, which also included light-guns - and a lot of people preferred to buy what other brands were offering rather than Namco's model because they either had better looks (some of them were modeled after real weapons) or more advanced features (like recoil simulation - which usually broke down after a few play-throughs). Needless to say, this game was not highly regarded on this side of the pond despite the fact it could be played as it was originally intended.
Yeah, us Americans (when talking about video games) seem to often overlook Europe…. which is odd because we do include y’all as “the west” when talking about culture and such. Not sure why that is… probably because PAL was it’s own weird thing.
It needed a support stick for movement in other words. ...yeah no thanks I'm using the re controller instead, at least that has a hilariously useless turbo button
Having never owned a GunCon and could only try to approximate it with a mouse in an emulator, I'm glad to hear that the controls are still clunky as all hell even when holding the real thing. Weird how a game designed for a light gun actually plays much more smoothly with a gamepad, like how often does that happen? Though I actually had the best time using the DualShock controls but with the mouse emulating the left stick, for PC FPS-esque keyboard-and-mouse play.
@@leeartlee915 PAL still exists and is not weird - I am talking as a cinematographer and former ENG cameraman here. In the days of Standard Definition, PAL was actually superior in quality because it had 625 lines of resolution vs NTSC's own 525. It running at 25fps also made transferring movies on tape easier and vice-versa: Steven Soderbergh famously shot "Full Frontal" with PAL Canon XL1S cameras for these very reasons (the movie was shot on MiniDV tapes but transferred to 35mm film: not only 25fps made the transfer easier, but the image looked a bit better in the blow up). Nowadays, quality-wise, everything is the same because HD is 1920x1080 (2048x1080 in 2K DCI) and UHD is 3840x2160 (4096x2160 in 4K DCI) everywhere - the only difference is frame rate. Also, only the US, Canada, and Japan use NTSC.
@@LonelySpaceDetective It was a failed attempt. It would've worked better with the Dreamcast's own light gun of the PS2's GunCon 2, since they both had either a d-pad or an analog stick on the back of the handle. I wonder if the GC2 was actually compatible with the Japanese\EU edition running on a PS2. I remember "Dead Aim" could be played with a light gun (although I don't remember anyone owning a GunCon 2: it wasn't exactly a popular accessory).
"Oh, yes! I remember! I remember everything." Not a great RE game but I still enjoy playing it. Yep, I love to see reimagined of Survivor too, and survivor deserve it. I love the files in this game.
Also, I always had this theory that each one of the human antagonists have a corresponding enemy since you first encounter the enemy on the branching path that determines the ending and the last branching path you take before the lab will be crawling with that said enemy. Vincent Goldman: Tyrant T-103 UT Commander: Cleaners (OK, this one is a bit too obvious) Andy Holland: Hunters
On the topic of the shooting just mentioned. It's refreshing to hear someone say that a big part of the problem is the failure of parents and not blaming games. As someone who fired his first gun at age 7 and grew up on Resident Evil, I constantly am annoyed when people start blaming guns and video games for what is clearly a cultural problem and bad parenting. Edit, I should mention I'm in my late 20s so I've been hearing this for awhile now.
Yeah people had plenty of access to guns pre-80s, far more than you do today (you could legally own actual automatic firearms) and you didn't have school shootings. People feel more and more isolated nowadays, especially teens, and broken families/lack of care for mental illness on top of the fame the media gives every shooter is what perpetuates the violence.
@@LordVader1094 Gun culture has vastly changed since the '80s. Back then, they were literally just tools for hunting and occasionally self defense if you lived in a bad neighborhood or had a job that required it. Nobody was all "mah 2nd amendment rights!" about it and most folks didn't fetishize firearms like they do now. Heck, back then the NRA was a more respected organization that advocated for hunting rights and self defense and not shills for the gun industry like they are now.
It’s a shame guns aren’t universally banned because I live in Singapore with guns being illegal here and we’ve had very few to none of these kind of tragedies here :/
Just wanted to say: I love your voice. It is so calm and soothing, I don't quite know how you do it. This in addition to your very calm presentation makes it so nice to listen to your voice. Take that as a compliment, good work! Of course it helps that you cover mostly horror games, which I love, especially retro ones :)
Wow. There are so many good things about your video that makes this worth watching. The speaking out about the notoriety of current events, the potential of Village with the use of Thompson's character, the fun you had playing it this time through, so much. It was very much worth watching the whole length, having the time to finally watch one of your videos for the full length. I hope you get some cool writing opportunities to come your way in the future.
"Leon probably sent Arc Thompson there to die!" I love that you referenced that AVGN video! A top ten episode for sure! I love that I can stick to any of the mainline RE titles and I'm in good hands...and yes, that includes Code Veronica, RE0 and the Revelations titles! I've attempted the spin off stuff. From Outbreak to Operation Raccoon City, to watching videos about this game. The thing I see in common with all of them is this...WOW does Resident Evil LOVE to revisit locations from it's early titles! How many labs and Mr. X's and Tyrants and Nemesis's can one fight!?! I haven't played Survivor, admittedly, but it looks like a repeat of all of the stuff that exists within the first three games. I definitely will never love this game for one very simple reason. I HATE the idea of multiple Mr. X's. Tyrants is one thing...but X had style! I will probably one day play all the spin off RE games just for the f*ck of it, but I ain't hoping for much! I still think that RE, as a series, is going very strong! There is no less than 12 entries that wear the brand well...15 if you include originals and REmakes!
I love that ad transition salazar saying “ Mees Suzi we’ve jack de line” made me start laughing 😂, stuff like this is why I love watching your videos & streams cuz there always something that makes me laugh along with me just really enjoying your content.
Love seeing this deep dive into Survivor, Suzi. Have you watched Noah Caldwell-Gervais' "Thorough Look at Resident Evil" video? He spends about 8 minutes (out of a 7.5-hour video) on Survivor and I love how he summarized the politics of making a lightgun game with the lightgun redacted after the Columbine tragedy: "Thank you, Capcom USA, for making this low-effort zombie shooter more awkward out of respect for our national tragedy. While it might have meant more to pull the game altogether, this half-hearted gesture has united us in healing during our time of crisis." Priceless.
Love your show.... AVGN is right about the Survivor that there's no quality assurance and in 1st person view on Resident Evil would have been great idea on paper, too bad on toiletpaper....
I have for a LONG time stated that I would love a remake of Survivor, not because it's a great game, but because it was the game with the most unrealized potential. I mean, the setting of a Tyrant Factory is chilling, the documents showcasing what takes place to create them is sickening, and the mystery twist where you TRULY believe that you were the one who, intentionally, released the T-Virus is one that could have lead to an amazing RE title! I think this game should be remade just so that all of this wasted potential is fully realized!
I remember when i was a kid, I played a game that was called “Resident Evil 4” on the box, but looked like Survivor, while not being Survivor either, cause first level was some kind of a morgue, i think. Videogame piracy was kinda crazy in Ukraine in early2000s, so I spent like 6 years telling ppl that “sure I played resident evil 4” without realizing I just played some cheap crap that had RE stamped on it.
Kinda reminds me of the time there was a pirated game out on the bootleg market that claims to be a port of Counter-Strike on the PS1. Turns out it was an obscure, Wolfenstein-esque Japanese PS1 game called EXPERT. I love it when pirates get "creative".
@@Chizuru94 i might be wrong about the morgue. All i got is a memory of blueish room, felt like a freezer, so i assumed its a morgue, been almost two decades since lol
Bought Survivor day-one and, of the entire series, I think I've replayed it more than any other entry outside of RE4. It's terrible, I recognized that within 2 minutes of playing it, but I'll be damned if the weird, super jankiness of it didn't have some charming appeal that made me love it and come back to it over and over.
Yup. There is something about the jank that I love. Like....I know it's a "bad" game. But I love it. Takes me an hour to blitz through the whole thing. And it's a ton of fun.
Just found you through Friends per Second. I LOVE Resident Evil and I am so excited to go through all your videos now haha. I've got my work cut out for me :) Thanks for all the content!
I've never been interested in Resident Evil, but here I am watching this video! Found your channel earlier this week and have been slowly working my way through your videos and loving them! Keep up the great work :)
Back then I played a pirated version of this with FULL Russian translation. Yes, even voicelines were in pure Russian. The pirate scene was kinda wild if you think about it, we only had pirated games available for PS1 and each disk was 50 rubles or 2$ at that time. Pirates those days did more effort than legit publishers now. Fully translated games, at least the text was, and RE 2 and 3 had Russian voiceover as well. I actually liked the game back then, seeing monsters from classic RE in first person felt really cool and novel, didn't mind the control scheme but no saves was kinda lame.
Suzie, you made my day, literally it was the only thing i watched today that isn't related to calculus (I'm studying night and day for my exam). I would love a survivor remake too, imagine playing this game with a reimagined story and the re engine graphics in vr and this time with a controller that works, but I thing capgod will never do it. But we can always pray for it. P.S.: Happy to see Ada's cosplay at the end...but I liked AVG's more it was soo unexpected couldn't stop smiling
I'm happy to see you reviewed my favorite RE game of all time. This was the first RE game I finished and believe it or not it was the game that made understand tank controls, so getting used to the other RE's controls wasn't hard. Since I'm from Mexico finding and buying an original copy was kinda of hard, so I played it on a pirated PS1. However, for some reason my console stop reading the disc and I couldn't play it. A few years ago I found a second hand copy listed online along with the complete PS1 RE collection in almost mint condition, I was so happy that I saved and payed the 240 dollars the seller asked. To this day I treasure my copy with all my heart. This game has an interesting lore and connects to the other games in certain ways: Ark being friends with Leon, Nicholai from RE3 sending messages to this island to report his progress and even confirming that he survived Raccon City, making the Barry ending the canonical one, the origin of Mr. X, etc. And as the RE survivor nerd that I am, I want to add a little detail about the incident in this game: Vincent not only was paranoic because of Ark's investigation, other Umbrella employees wanted to report him to the high command because of his horrible behaviour and the fact that he killed in cold blood the prisioners that tried to escape, his colleagues were mad at him because bringing children to the island was expensive and took a long time. When Vincent found out he was going to be reported he released the T-virus to erase any proof of his wrongdoings, so he had his reasons to doom the entire island. Great video, I love the way you review horror games, keep the good job going and I look forward to the Dead Aim review.
Yo long time viewer here nice to hear form you, I just want to say I'm happy thing are working out for you I cant even imagine the work it took, long hours and massive stress you must've been under but Thank you for you up loads.
"hey Leon, you were right. Those mister x things are a pain." "Yeah, that thing chased me everywhere. I'm lucky to have gotten away with my life." "Why didn't you just empty a full pistol magazine into it? I killed like, twenty of the bastards. Hey Leon, you okay dude? Leon, where are you going man?"
@@Who-Uhm-Cares If Jill has nothing to do with the recent event so why would she be mention? It's stuff like this that people never really think it through in their heads but all they care about are hamfisted and forced fanservices. Yeah, Chris totally should've mention to Mia and Ethan about Jill out of nowhere because that makes total sense.
Suzie, i must say this is the best video i have seen in your series. I personally like the intro and the end with you on screen, like the one in RE4 too, i dont know, it feels more professional and personal at the same time if that makes any sense. Anyway, again great video and looking forward to the next one.
The year is 2005, I was in 6th grade in school. Dad bought me my first ever PS1, the one with curved corners. It was jailbroken, he bought me like 20 something games. One among them was Resident Evil Gun Survivor. Unlike nearly entirety of the RE fanbase, my first RE game that actually made me a fan was Gun Survivor. Me and my brother literally cheesed the game on hard difficulty we loved it so damn much. As someone who had no idea about the existence of a Resident Evil 1, 2 or 3 in 2005 because we didn't have a PC and internet connection at that time was highly intrigued by the game and the world it built. I was always excited about what comes next. But later on as years passed by, i got a PC, internet, played a few more RE games to realise the big picture - i could never and still don't dislike RE Gun Survivor in anyway - I fucking love every bit of this game, if not for this I would've never fell in love with RE.
Honestly, I kind of like the use of fake names, reused RE2 assets, and bad acting combined with a game that has arguably one of the darkest and most messed-up stories in the franchise. It gives Survivor this creepy sort of exploitation film vibe, like one of those cheap dubbed OVA's or direct-to-video horror flicks from the 80's and 90's.
I was so pumped to get this game back in high school simply because it was another RE game. To be honest, I actually enjoyed it. It has a certain charm to it. There is so much content and replay-ability in this game. If they would have actually put any effort into this it could have been so much better. I just would like the next spinoff game to be set on the island that Ark, Carlos, Sheeva, and Billy Cohen are stuck on!
I wish I could like this comment 3 times. One for the comment, another for the name and a third for going all in and having the loveable locksmith as your avatar ......... Unless you are he? After all, there's only one of us Kevin. Only one of anybody....... *Loads up Masters Of The Universe*
A part of me thought you’d mention the PC mod of Survivor, where it plays in 3rd person and fixed camera angles like the previous games, but it’s still being worked on, so not much to talk about
I'd actually really like to see a reinterpretation of the story of Survivor. Playing as an Umbrella scientist fleeing a facility while being hunted by the products of your own unethical experiments would be a super compelling plot. It's too rare that you actually get to play as an amoral character, and that could be incredibly immerisive, considering how well RE can be at creating oppressive, overwhelming dread in their locales. Great work as always, looking forward to the next one.
Totally agree, this is the game that genuinely needs a remake, especially with it still apparently being canon. Capcom have plenty of experience making an FPS RE game work with the RE Engine
Thanks for this video. Played this a few times as a kid (in the UK so with the gun con). I had all but forgotten it, a fun trip down nemory lane and excellent analysis and insight.
One thing about the Vincent path bothered me back then so much I still remember it bothering me. 28:22, those security doors Vincent opens. No audio here, but I remember you also hear roaring and thundering footsteps. They NEVER follow up on what was in there.
I thought this was Resi 4 for the longest time. (I was a kid when resident evil was coming out and English wasn’t my mother tongue). I had beaten resident evil 3 at that point and I borrowed this from my friend who told me this was resident evil 4. Didn’t play resi 4 until like a year or two after it had come out and kept telling everyone how much Resi 4 sucked compared to the originals :D Something similar happened to me again when I had only played PC version of Spider-Man 2 and every time I heard people praise Spider-Man 2 as one of the best superhero games ever I’d be like “well, they must not have played any good games” :D PC version is laughably bad and completely different from the console versions. Who knew :D
29:51 Don't forget the part of the fanfiction which Leon (shows up out of nowhere) kisses Arc at the end because their "Besties" and rides atop a heat-seeking missle into the sunset
I'll never forget renting this one as a kid, beating most of the game in like 45 minutes, then having to spend another 30 minutes (or what felt like that) on the final boss because all I had left was pistol ammo. Good memories
A reimagined gun survivor would be amazing along with all the other side games. Also I must have not seen your content for a long while I didn't know you actually started showing yourself plus notifications haven't been showing even though I have the bell clicked but now I have months of content to binge!
"we hear probably the most insane dialogue in the series" -- i genuinely doubted you for a second but you were so right lmao. amazing video. i never got to finish this game (it was too janky for my patience) so i had no idea there was actually a twist in it.
Seeing Adam Sessler go against Thompson is funny in retrospect. Now that he argues in favor of those same arguments, just on another topic. They don't make us violent, but apparently they make us misogynists... Full circle.
Been watching Pat and Woolie since Konami wasn’t fully ascended into villainy lol. Your content is great and i’m mad excited to slowly chip through your catalog!
Thx for making a video on this gem. I played when it was released, Several times. I enjoyed and still do. While I don't return to it nearly as often as the others, it had a lot I enjoyed. I loved the new Tyrant as its supposed to evolve and replace cells. (I think that's sorta like the G-virus which I also really enjoy.) Excited for your next videos, take care. Also, yes! The files!! The files in any RE title are something that I absolutely love like no other, they've always been something I look forward to as I enjoy any insight to events from a different perspective or someone's last moments like the iconic scientist in the Spencer mansion transforming into a zombie!(and then hiding out in a closet lol)
TBH I'd love a remake for this game. Me personally, I didn't think RE 4 needed a remake or reimagining. It was masterful on its own. But to get to explore raccoon city in ways that the @RE3make was supposed to give us would be awesome. Which is why I wish they would remake outbreak. With those characters and stories, it doesn't come off as cheesey. Plus we get to see zombie animals in rare form. Heck before and RE 4 I'd like to have seen a remake to Survival, along with Dead Aim and possibly Gaiden. I don't mind seeing a Leon parred with Barry either. Just so many options why remake a game thats damn near perfect as is. 😕
@@557deadpool Wow, you create a really good perspective of things do you? Not much in your head if you read an entire post and ain't have nothing to offer. Must be proud. No ish animal zombies existed. Zombie rats were part of a huge factor of the virus spreading. Inthis case I was more so referring to Zoo animals. If that wasn't obvious enough. Lions, tigers, bears, oh my. You know, wild life? We got Snakes, sharks, monkeys, and bugs. I'm talking about a whole other form of wild life. Wow can't believe I had to explain that twice in one comment. Not to mention all the rest I said that you could've responded to not wasting time an ish that apparently needed to be spelled out for you. And yet you responded with no real opinion. Congrats to trolls with no life on here. Smh.
Your experiences were identical to mine: I got Survivor as a fan back in the day, beat it in one sitting and hated it, returning it the next day and getting something else instead. I came back to it years later with a lot more patience and appreciation for what it brought to the franchise, as well as being more entertained by its goofy nature than taking offense to it. I love the sheer amount of content it has, how you can amass and arsenal of weapons and collect a bundle of files through three playthroughs. It's such a unique game that, yes, could definitely benefit from getting a rework. Thanks so much for making this video and giving Survivor some of the respect it deserves. Too many people just dismiss the game based on popular opinion when there's a fun little gem hidden beneath all the vitriol.
Had such mixed feelings when I played this game. Like, it's bad... but it's quick and to the point, and the story was clever enough, and taking down a bunch of tyrants made you feel like a badass.
So just chippin' in a bit here, cause i do want to add a little *tiny* bit of information. When it comes to the controls of the game and how you pick up items and interact with things by just "running" into them, this is actually reminds me a lot of something like Quake. A lot of that was due to the nature of the "beast" that is Quake's engine, being that it was one of the first full (to an extent) 3D First Person Shooters, a lot of the resources for actually running the game had to go into map geometry, A.I, and some other bits n' bobs to get it working correctly. And mind you; Id had genuine quasi-dimensional timelord and quantum singularity based coding machine, *John Carmack* , to get things working. So they probably ran into a similar sort of situation here especially with the Guncon usability. So they decided to axe the "use" function for the game, along with probably a number of other functions, in order to get the damned thing to run. Now that is more conjecture on my part but it would make some sense especially if we're talking about the good ol' PSX era of games. I mean FF7 needed roughly what . . . 4 disks? So not too terribly surprising. Now when it comes to the Guncon controller and why the U.S never got it, part of it is in fact due to Columbine and another part is due to one fairly notorious senator. Joe Lieberman. Back at the time i think either Atari or Commodore had a Light Gun type controller that looked very much like a Revolver. Which brought in the "argument", that games were getting too violent and there was no need for gun-shaped controllers and all that sort of fuckin' nonsense. So it's more than likely that Konami saw both Columbine and the fallout after that and said "oh fuck" and pulled out of shipping the Guncons to the U.S. I mean it was to the point where Nintendo's own Light cannon was getting heavily scrutinized by said jackass so, pretty sure Konami noped the fuck outta that situation. Now this is just a bit of side information that may or may not have any relevance but i figured it needed to be said. So chew on it if you will ^ ^;
Oh man, I remember playing this when I got a PS One back in 2000. Not sure if I finished it or not but this all looks fairly familiar. Love the content Suzie! Thank you!
Oddly enough, the story structure of this game is exactly what I want from RE9. Meaningful options throughout the game affecting equipment, NPCs met, plot points discovered...
I really really appreciate you talking about mass shootings here in the US, it’s an absolutely horrifying reality that should be addressed as often as possible as it feels like a new disaster is happening every week, if not more often than that. Fantastic vid on top of that:) ty Suzi!!!
Too many gun free zones giving lunatics a safe space to do terrible things. Not to mention cowardly cops standing by and doing nothing and their commander’s doing everything they can to increase the body count so their politician buddy can push an agenda.
9:55 The best way to deal with hunters in this game is to run up against the wall and maneuver while facing the wall, they can't jump in front of you and they won't attack you unless you look at them
Great review and brought back so many memories for me playing this! Agree wholeheartedly that it's a very cheesy, low budget but equally charming and for the most part fun game that you can play without having to give too much thought into. Never would've understood the files back when I played it though so thanks for enlightening me on the story 22 years later. I live in UK and defo had a gun controller for the PS2 but can't quite remember whether I managed to get one for the PS1 as I was only about 11 or 12 when this came out and would've had to have begged for the gun as present or something 🤣

Just started watching, but anyone realise Ark Thompson design is remade in Village for Ethan and the kid in yellow can be seen (his design and colour palette anyway) as the kid in Darkstalkers who helps Phobos (depending on which colour you select)... Kinda funny
Edit: I don't think it's intentional, but if it was mildly then that is funny
Right there with you for Survivor getting a reimagining, especially since timeline wise, it comes before Code Veronica. And 7 and Village prove they can do first person justice. Capcom, give Ark Thompson some love!
Fans : bring back that character who only showed up once
Capcom : we don't do that here
There’s an amazing fan project remaking it in the RE2 engine. Hope it comes to fruition!

as long as they don't fuck up the hipnos design, best tyrant in the series for me, it would be a shame

In my rambling I forgot to mention that the Japanese one has the lightgun features still. Good times.
it holds up VERY well.
It really is still enjoyable.

Every time I went over we always got a lil bit further until the day came and we actually beat the game. Those sleep overs were some of my fondest childhood memories and its all thank to this game! My best friend isn't with us anymore and it just makes those memories more precious. Thanks for giving this game the spotlight it deserves!
Don’t worry, we all have nostalgia for pieces of media that we know are horrible.
Aww man. So similar memory here. We were bit older, but we used to grind this, the og re1 and re2. He sadly passed away due to stroke.

"Oh, yes! I remember! I remember everything."

Gotta love the callout for AVGN, dude deserves all the love he can get

I have for a LONG time stated that I would love a remake of Survivor, not because it's a great game, but because it was the game with the most unrealized potential. I mean, the setting of a Tyrant Factory is chilling, the documents showcasing what takes place to create them is sickening, and the mystery twist where you TRULY believe that you were the one who, intentionally, released the T-Virus is one that could have lead to an amazing RE title!

I always thought it had a creepy feeling to the levels. The low quality helped it in that aspect I think

I thought this was Resi 4 for the longest time. (I was a kid when resident evil was coming out and English wasn’t my mother tongue). I had beaten resident evil 3 at that point and I borrowed this from my friend who told me this was resident evil 4. Didn’t play resi 4 until like a year or two after it had come out and kept telling everyone how much Resi 4 sucked compared to the originals :D

Thx for making a video on this gem. I played when it was released, Several times. I enjoyed and still do. While I don't return to it nearly as often as the others, it had a lot I enjoyed. I loved the new Tyrant as its supposed to evolve and replace cells. (I think that's sorta like the G-virus which I also really enjoy.)
Excited for your next videos, take care.
Also, yes! The files!! The files in any RE title are something that I absolutely love like no other, they've always been something I look forward to as I enjoy any insight to events from a different perspective or someone's last moments like the iconic scientist in the Spencer mansion transforming into a zombie!(and then hiding out in a closet lol)
This was a really cool vid. Looking forward to the next one :)
..... zombie animals have been around for a long ass time
@@557deadpool Wow, you create a really good perspective of things do you? Smh.
You like Resident Evil Survivor? How could you say something so controversial yet so brave.
This is gonna be a 20 part series before we get to Village and I'm here for it. 😁👍
Honestly this would make for an amazing VR remake, and that's kind of the way Capcom seems to be going lately
Had such mixed feelings when I played this game. Like, it's bad... but it's quick and to the point, and the story was clever enough, and taking down a bunch of tyrants made you feel like a badass.
So just chippin' in a bit here, cause i do want to add a little *tiny* bit of information.
When it comes to the controls of the game and how you pick up items and interact with things by just "running" into them, this is actually reminds me a lot of something like Quake. A lot of that was due to the nature of the "beast" that is Quake's engine, being that it was one of the first full (to an extent) 3D First Person Shooters, a lot of the resources for actually running the game had to go into map geometry, A.I, and some other bits n' bobs to get it working correctly. And mind you; Id had genuine quasi-dimensional timelord and quantum singularity based coding machine, *John Carmack* , to get things working. So they probably ran into a similar sort of situation here especially with the Guncon usability. So they decided to axe the "use" function for the game, along with probably a number of other functions, in order to get the damned thing to run. Now that is more conjecture on my part but it would make some sense especially if we're talking about the good ol' PSX era of games. I mean FF7 needed roughly what . . . 4 disks? So not too terribly surprising.
Now when it comes to the Guncon controller and why the U.S never got it, part of it is in fact due to Columbine and another part is due to one fairly notorious senator. Joe Lieberman. Back at the time i think either Atari or Commodore had a Light Gun type controller that looked very much like a Revolver. Which brought in the "argument", that games were getting too violent and there was no need for gun-shaped controllers and all that sort of fuckin' nonsense. So it's more than likely that Konami saw both Columbine and the fallout after that and said "oh fuck" and pulled out of shipping the Guncons to the U.S. I mean it was to the point where Nintendo's own Light cannon was getting heavily scrutinized by said jackass so, pretty sure Konami noped the fuck outta that situation.
Now this is just a bit of side information that may or may not have any relevance but i figured it needed to be said. So chew on it if you will ^ ^;
Oh man, I remember playing this when I got a PS One back in 2000.
No more gun free zones. They're a target for mass shooters
It’s not like that for everyone in the us and it’s definitely not everywhere….
