Its one of the reasons I like 2 almost more than 3, because you find that Letho’s motivations are justified depending on how you view the world from spending time with either Roche or Iorveth. You actually need to play the game twice, because the game is vastly different based on that decision alone, and there are multiple endings within each decision. Geralt felt more important to the politics of the region than he did in 3, which I thought was kind of cool.

Middle of the fight he even says "I don't want to kill you Geralt", to which Geralt replies "I'll gladly kill you". The second those two lines came out I just felt awful for fighting him lol, it felt so wrong.
Knowing that he helped you in the past, and knowing that he also helps you fight the Hunt in TW3 is enough for me to always spare him when playing W2, or when starting a new W3 campaign and simulating the save.

I believe he deserves to die. Because of his selfish actions many people die. He helped to start an entire war. So yeah, Geralt may have no personal reason to kill him, but there are still greater reasons left why someoe wanted to kill Letho. And Geralt is known to hate people that cause the death of others. He goes out of his way to kill murderers he believes to deserve death. So actually I see both endings as possible solutions.

@@randomdude2026 actually no, the northern realms are the one who prepared to strike first so without Letho assasinations a lot of people will still die, besides it's war and geralt doesn't care about it secondly Geralt isn't that virtuous, third Letho and his friends helped Geralt to fight the wild hunts and take care of Yennefer after Geralt exchanges himself with her to go with the wild hunts. Letho is a 'good' person who is always in a bad position. In my opinion If he is from wolf school then his loyality will be equal or even better to other geralt wolf friends

If Geralt hate people that cause the death of others he will hate foltest (well he already hates monarch though) but still he defended him from an assassin's. Roche isn't an angel too yet he doesn't fight him. Dijkstra is a dick yet Geralt only broke his bone. He is a witcher and a person trying it's best to survive and thrive in a war ridden world.

If you notice they the floor looks like a chess board and pawns can only move forward or stand their ground. In a way Geralt is giving them both permission to not be pawns by going their own way. • @Baalslegion07
      @Baalslegion07 Před rokem +3

I agree with that wild hunt part. Every other villain is so much more interesting than those guys. Heck, even some random NPCs are more interesting. It is the lack of interaction and actual confrontation that makes them feel so uninteresting.
Dettlaff? You hate him for what he does but also understand his actions. Olgierd? Hate or love him, but he is a likable character, as much of an asshole he is. Gaunter O'Dimm is just a fun and interesting villain or ally, depending on your choices. Syanna has very understandable reasons but goes to absurd lengths to achieve them.
You learn their stories and experience aspects of them. You actually feel like those are real people. The wild hunt though, is such an abstract enemy, with no true goal unless you actually take the time to research them or have read the books and played previous games.
Ciri though? Nah, I cared for her. They could have done it better, but I think they didn't do it badly. But it's all a matter of opinion I suppose.

In witcher 3 you cant kill ghosts, it's even mentioned a few times that he has to drive them away, because for some reason when they died, their ghosts cannot move on, usually because of hatred, revenge or curse, so it is up to Geralt to force them to move on.

Letho is my favorite character in the entire series. So interesting, so complex. As strong and dangerous as he is cunning. His motivations are logical and relatable, and despite being a remorseless killer, he has a clear code of honor. I never killed him in any of my playthroughs, and I was glad when he showed up in 3.

Letho is arguably the most loyal character in this universe. The dude literally sacrifices a continent peace so his fellow witchers can come home to the school of the viper. Literally, me and my homies against the world.
While Geralt has a more strict moral compass he is very devoted to his fellow witchers as well. He would kill for them if it came down to it. Not innocent civilians at least. Letho in W3 shares a story were he let's his bounty walk free because he liked the guy after sharing a drink overnight.
To Letho things are usually just a job and no hard feelings, but he is far from being heartless.
In W3 Vesemir doesn't like Letho but they share a goal of better life/public respect for all witchers. Vesemir is often on Eskel, Lambert and Geralts ass to uphold witcher public image.
To play devil's advocate, the passive route has hardly done anything for the witcher caste. They are more successful when they carve a piece of world for themselves. (School of cat)
Lambert throttles people that make him angry. Letho throttles people if it serves a purpose, it's a job or it helps a fellow witcher. Geralt throttles people if he deemed them evil according to his own code, is protecting someone or self defense.
Letho is like Geralt but more disciplined, methodical and chaotic.

5:29 - I became interested in Witcher because I saw the old TV show (2002 I think). So I decided years later to read the books. I liked Geralt's character very much. But then I just couldn't get over Yennefer. I so strongly disagreed with his taste in that woman, that I just stopped reading the books. I was glad that she was absent in the first two Witcher games. And now at the end Letho talks about Yennefer, and her description and distaste for her character completely mirrors mine. It's so funny. I nearly forgot she existed, and his description is so on point. Having temper tantrums, trying to seduce people for her gains, trying to turn people against their friends, everywhere she goes she gets her and her accomplices in trouble, having whims and vigor of a duchess, yet being just a simple arrogant witch.
I think someone even described her relationship with Geralt as toxic. I just don't like her one bit. I fail to see why would Geralt of all people see anything in her.

It's something I adore in writing of both games and books- characters are never defined by their physical appearance and tropes associated with it, but appearance still influences them.
Yeneffer is beautiful, but she used to be a hunchback and she has some spite left because of that fact.
Geralt often uses the prejudice towards witchers for his own benefits, claiming that his mutations rob him of all kinds of human emotions.
And Letho is a big, bulky man, but not only is he highly clever playing everybody like a fiddle, but he is also aware of how others perceive him due to this appearance and uses the fact others underestimate his intelligence.

Having played Witcher 3 first and Witcher 2 later, I had been thinking that there is no way I would spare Letho in the end (I knew we have an option). Then so many events happened and saw how politics are very dirty and there is not a single innocent person among them. I noticed that I can not keep killing every evil I see. For this reason I spared Henselt first, then sparing Letho was even easier when he told us that he and Geralt was friends. Involving in politics that much and witnessing that there is no good- greater evil or lesser evil- is something I like about this game and maked it a different experience that I consider worth playing. In W3 we are not that deep into politics. Sure, we help Cerys or Hjalmar but this is just honest help with no dirty schemes. There is assasination of Radovid but that is also pretty straight forward without complicated moral choices.

If you’re talking about Rivia, he was killing rioters who were attacking and killing non humans, so Geralt was defending innocents at the cost of his own life when he got stabbed with a pitchfork.
Witcher’s were celebrated heroes during the time when Monsters were practically everywhere. Once most of the monsters were gone though, people began hating them because they were almost no longer necessary. And began calling them mutants,
And oh! How dare Witcher’s work for a living. Monster hunting is a safe profession that requires no materials at all! How dare Witcher’s get money for the work they do. How dumb are you to make this point?

Letho fell for the same trick Emyhr played on dozens of other people over the course of the three wars; give a little to get a lot.
He offered a portion of upper Aedirn to king Henselt in exchange for not coming to king Demavend's aid when Nilfgaard invaded, knowing he can just take it back later. He promised the scoi'atel their own province in the new Empire in exchange for guerilla raids on important targets, knowing he could cut them loose and let them twist in the wind.
And here he did it again with Letho, Serrit and Aukes, playing on their desire to see the School of the Viper reinstated, and totally reneging on their deal by sending assassins after him to tie off loose ends.
I don't fault Letho for falling for Emyhr's treachery, even if his actions caused irreparable damage to the northern kingdoms. The books and games take place over the course of more than a decade though, you'd think at least one person would realise why the Emperor is able to get people to do what he wants at almost no expense to himself.
