  • This course was developed to introduce students to the concepts and skills involved in figure drawing using line.
We will be using a drawing by a 19th c master and will be following the examples provided by Charles Bargue.
The concepts in this class are the basics of figure drawing and include:
•Gesture - the first stage in which you capture the pose of the model. An artistic statement in which you design the pose.
•Construct - In this stage you begin to construct the big structural forms of the model on top of your previous gestural statement.
•Articulation - The placement of the subtle undulation of form and anatomy onto the construct.
•Line weight - Further development of the articulation stage to express a sense of light and dark and visual excitement.
This class leads into figure drawing two in which we add shapes, tone and comparative measurements.
Class starts Saturday October 2 and 5:30 pm London, England time and continues for 4 weeks.
Classes will be around 90 - 120 minutes long.
Weekly assignmnents will be due before the following Saturday.
