Thank you very much, this video helps me a lot to learn how to do cast drawing.
I tried the sight size method in my home my hand shakes a lot can you use somthing in the academy to put your hands on because its like earthquake to me 😂
I have never know a student who needed to but I suppose you could arrange something. Perhaps a long stick to hold it up. Did you try using the other hand as a rest?
@@MartinhoIsidroCorreia yes its still kind of shaky but thanks , the stick i should try seems like a good idea .
Thank you Martinho. Very helpful.

Keep up the discussion with Paul-talk. It’s going 👍
I agree! It's an interesting exchange of ideas.
@@MartinhoIsidroCorreia how familiar are you with Paul’s work? Please read my exchange with your teacher MJAngel in Paul’s latest video ( features your work ). I’m just 4 years into this painting adventure ( I was a model for 8 years 2001-2009 for Anthony Ackrill after he got back to America after teaching at Florence Academy 1995-2000. )
@@jockospillink7318 Been following and interacting with Paul for a few years now. I did an interview with him in 2018: ia803100.us.archive.org/31/items/OffTheCoastWithPaulRhoads/Off%20the%20Coast%20with%20Paul%20Rhoads.mp3

Excelent! thanck you master.
What colour is the imprimatura on which you painted with white?
Its a light brown. See the links above for an image.
That’s the best sight size video I have ever seen, have you ever thought about doing the other processes? Like I don’t know a series of dvd. I wish I could go to a classic atelier, but I work full time and got a family so can’t afford it anyway, I think DVD’s about bargues, charcoal casts ecc would be great for people like me and a business for knowledged professionals like you lol
Marco Feray Thank-you. Glad you enjoyed it. Planning to do more.
Sempre pensei : O Martinho Correia devia ter também um canal do CZcams. E aqui está. Abraço de Portugal Pedro Silva
Very thankful for sharing that and waiting for more please .

Sir are you using only white on that 2nd layer?
Yes. To get the modelling out it on thick and pull it thinner as the form turns.
I admire that you’ve put these videos up. Especially with the treasure trove of idiotic comments from the highly opinionated yet low skilled do nothings who I guarantee can not paint. Thank you 👍
Thanks for the kind comment.
Thank you very much for this amazing video Maestro.
I think he did an overpaint with the flesh tones as you did, but that he painted the darker half tones (the green ones which transition into the shadows) on top of a relatively basic flesh toned overpaint. And that he would kind of dry brush it into the lights. Do you think this is plausible? I think see this in a lot of paintings but I'm not sure if painters like Caravaggio modelled their paintings using darker tones over a flesh tone overpaint.
May I ask by the way how you prepared the linen? Did you gesso it before you applied the campitura? Also, how did you apply the campitura (what color, medium)? Thank you
Oooh. I like the painting next to your demo. Would it be possible to demonstrate your technique for the clouds?
Where is the edidence this was his technique, I don't believe it was
Plenty of evidence in recent research and the paintings themselves.
I doubt this was caravaggio's technique, I'd need to see a finished copy to judge
His late technique. Did you follow the links and read my explanation?
It absolutely is you can see a few Caravaggio paintings where the white under painting in monochrome is still visible and the brown under layers poking through.
Bravo Martinho!!!! Another great demo!
Thanks Maestro!
You are exceptionally talented. Now if only you could paint as fast as that video. You would be a Super Hero!
You should make longer demos just for CZcams. Great education.

Great work 🎀🖼️👍🎨
incrível!
👏 Bravo!
did you say that its red umber ?
burnt umber
This might be a dumb question but is this method achievable using acrylic paint? If I use an opaque acrylic for example. I am just starting out and I am interested in trying this method for the contrast of light and shadow.
You could give it a try. You may not be able to get enough modelling with acrylic however. The overpainting would have to be in oils.
Martinho Isidro Correia Studio Thanks. I'll try that. I haven't tried painting with oils yet, but I will attempt it. Caravaggio's style is my favorite aesthetically and I'd like to learn it. I appreciate the reply
Beautiful model!
Thanks so much
You are welcome!
Anyone who really does want to understand Caravaggio's technique for real should read the free to download technical bulletin on the National Gallery of London's website where the "Abbozzo" block in is explained which is the direct opposite of a sort of monochrome modeled underpaint coat that is then coloured in.
You need to look at more recent studies. According to the proceedings of the Charisma Workshop and published in the 2010 book Caravaggio's Painting Technique they describe the abbozzo as -" a layer of lead white with which he can create a strong highlight" which is what I am replicating. Take a look at "The Martyrdom of St. Ursula" to see this in one of his last works. Caravaggio had different methods over his short career. Earlier works started on a mid-tone grey ground before moving to the mid-tone brown. As his career progressed his brushwork became looser and ground darker. Here you go again with this comment Christopher... jumping around on every Caravaggio video to share the exact same ridiculous comment. As I said in the other post on the other video. You are flat out wrong. EVen so the National Gallery bulletin actually backs up this technique. it doesnt make the claims that you think it seems to. SEcondly you can pull up actual caravaggio paintings where you can see for yourself the dead monochrome under layer to the flesh. There are several with unfinished figures in the back that have the dead layer still.
@@MartinhoIsidroCorreia This guy goes around on every video on caravaggio and cuts and pastes this comment. Its quite humorous. He has never once responded to a reply either.
@@devinmichaelroberts9954 I have commented on two videos only. I have also replied to your previous comment a week ago. Here is the link: czcams.com/video/TCKBC6iJWws/video.html

William Bouguereau. A late work of his.
Bravo maestro Correia! This is an excellent demonstration of the early planar stages of a portrait. Where can we buy the whole thing?
I will send you a copy as soon as its ready.
Excellent!
Can u tell me how u did the underpainting ? Looks like burnt umber oil paint mixed with white, then layered with a darker shade. But what medium did you mix it with . I'm going to do this exact painting , its kinda inspiring . Thx
I'm good at figuring things out so i just need to know the basic steps of the process, like underpainting and what medium would u recommend for using to paint the overpainting , appreciate it
