There's not many real legends left on our planet now... But for me Bowie was the biggest loss who'll never be replaced... Absolute beyond anyone with his early stuff ❤️
The albums between 1970-1980, are what I call his golden decade. As you say he has no equal. I am a lifelong DB fan.
And how fucking brilliant is his version of this…and The Port of Amsterdam? I met him once and was an extra in a video. Early 80s ♥️
"Angel or devil, I don't care. Because in front of the door is YOU."
It's so important for me to be reminded of the primacy of human relations and real love
At his most Scott Walker-esque, from whom he first heard the song. A tribute to Brel and Walker.
Scott Walker had also a cover of Port of Amsterdam, David Bowie liked Noel Engel a lot...David also covered this Brel song good version
WHAT A VOICE. So unique, so flawless. There will never be another David Bowie, no one will ever full the hole he has left in the world. We'll never forget you, Starman.
You are right......100%
Specially no "new singer" has to struggle with so much things that all the big ones had to go thrue.
❤
Boy you said that right. Great comment. I love him so much and miss him so bad.
الحب الله
God he really was beautiful in every way miss him so much
I miss him too! Such a unique and gentle man ❤
Love this version - Bowie has always been in my life, he dropped off for me in the 1990’s whilst I was involved in the Manchester hedonism but now that I’m in my late 50’s he is fully back in my life and I’m loving him and his music all again. Diamond Dogs is on constant replay this week. ❤
I love how the audience yelled "Me!" like the Ziggy Stardust movie version.
He held out for it too.
They Ruined it like here ... I like when he said BE QUIET
Fuck the movie
My bucket list is forever incomplete with David Bowie and
Scott Walkers passing. Loved them both from the first day I ever heard them sing. Thought I'd get to see Scott and David one more time. RIP two of the greatest voices in rock... EVER!
Waiting for you in Mars !!!!!!!
Absolutely two of the greatest ever
This so unfortunate and depressing knowledge that R.I.P. David Robert Jones ( Bowie ) from January 2016 is gone made me so sad and gloomy that I was heartbroken 💔 for days . An artist and singer 👩🎤 that we are reading 📖 about and hearing his singing almost every day disappears some day is unbelievable. Rock'n Roll suicide !!!!! You still live in my heart 💜 Dear David !!!!!!!
Come si può non amare la sua musica??...io lo seguo da 40 anni e non mi stanca mai...love Bowie forever
You are not alone! ⚡🙏🔥❤️🔥🙏💫👍
Check out how stony silent the audience are. Completely mesmerised. As we all were....
Always there when times are hard.
I want this played at my funeral and I want this version
David... I cry many times when I listen you
What a fantastic performance! He was amazing to listen and even more to see. What a mervelous creature.
My youth with his voice was beautiful such a great times My hero
Don't hear Bowies range that often BUT when he lets you hear it sends chills through me.. Miss you Ziggy.❤🙏
I love his 1973 version czcams.com/video/nKmBg-jOYUQ/video.html
He just can't be compared to anyone. Awesome performances and rendition of a classic Bowie song.
He said - even at the start of this video - its not his song.
You compared people to David. Not vice versa/
It's a famous French song by Jacques Brel.
He is just the best!!!
Brel > Bowie 😃
This is as good as it gets ....love the piano man Mike Garson ..another unsung hero..Peace all
There will never be another David Bowie
I love you David. I grew up in the sixty and seventy songs from British artist. Now I’m in my early seventies, still love the past. Abby Sadek
Transcendant !!!!...
Cathartic Bowie
So moving and beautiful, what a voice range David! Mike Garson's piano is stunning and I am so happy to finally see the camera give him the deserved coverage.
RIIIIIIIIPPPP!!!!....SO OOO PERFECT IN EVERY WAY...+FOR EVER...!!!😔😪I'M STILL CRYING...REALLY+DEEPLY...everytime...!THIS MAN SHOULD BE LIVE...FOR EVER+EVER.............
A year ago today and still cannot think of you as being no longer here, prefer to think you have taken a break to re invent yourself again xx
Wouldn't that be great? Even 3 years later? I can't imagine how comforting that would be! I wouldn't be angry because it was a BAD JOKE.....but sadly.......there is another reality 😭
I was at this concert and hadn’t seen this video until now. I don’t think he ever performed this the same way twice.
Mike Garson slaying it with Bowie like he always did!
Seven years gone. RIP Starman.
Flawless, fantastic, amazing by the best solo artist that ever lived and will ever live.
Breathtaking! Words will never know how to describe everything that you have left behind for us. My God, I miss you and the thought that you will never sing this music again is hard to understand. David, thank you for everyone and everything you have been.
Excellent video. Movie critics constantly throw around the word 'riveting' to describe a film. They don't know what riveting truly means. THIS is riveting.
kasteman1 Riveting and chillingly haunting! Bravo!
Stumbled on to this today after learning of Scott Walkers death. Losing Bowie created such a deep vacuum in today's music scene. Even though he was silent for most of the last several years, knowing he was alive always kept me hopeful for the music industry. Now, some three years later there is little hope left for the music scene
Nothing compares to you, miss you....never will forget you! Beautiful soul..
The one and only David Bowie, who can actually OUTperform Jacques Brel, stellar, sweet, sexy, shivers, simply amazing...
Do you know how Brel called this song : ma mort?? Seems obvious, but never heard him perform it himself?!
That's a very subjective view, Brel is in another class. Bowie had a very weak voice, and the backing is dire.
As you say, Nathalie, it's subjective. Completely disagree with you. Though Brel's original version of Amsterdam is much better than Bowie's cover.
@@diamondgirl.1019:
He did not have a weak voice at all---come on now, lol. Listen to that powerful baritone he had. You can't have a weak voice if you want to put a song like this across.
Outperforming Jacques Brel?

A fantastic performance!
This was at Radio City what a fantastic show my 151st Bowie concert, to much is never enough. So luck to be right there!
I was also there.
how dam lucky!!!
I'm still mourning him 😢💙 What emotion & stamina in his beautiful voice 💞💙🌊♀️♂️☯️✴ Best version ever!
BOWIE IS BOWIE my SWEATHEART THE BEST ♥😍♥😍♥😍♥🇬🇧♥😍♥😍♥😍♥😍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧♥♥♥😍♥😍♥♥
GOD BLESS YOU DAVID, WE MISS YOU!
A master at the top of his game as he has been for the 5 past decades and will always be.
He kept re imagining his songs. Wonderful version!
....but whatever lies behind the door, there is nothing much to do, angel or devil, I don't care...I think you were met by angel's David.
Pobre la gente que no escucha Bowie....
I keep trying to play these videos in the background. Somebody is always linking to them these days, and I'll think "Oh, I love that song, sure, I'll just listen to this video while I answer the next email." That would be fine if I were physically capable of taking my eyes off this man once he starts singing, which I am not. It has been more than 40 years now since I first saw him perform. You would think I would have learned this by now. :-o
I know exactly what you mean!
Rebecca B you have to pay premium for that
So true! It's so annoying! I have to try to watch when I have nothing else to do or I've got time because it's impossible to just listen!
Truly beautiful performance
I just finished listening to the version live from the Hammersmith Odeon and omg, his voice is so different!
I've never listened to any other version of this recording from him. Never knew where it came from, but knew when i heard it that this was one of those performances that is iconic.
Beta Omega 1973 version, amazing czcams.com/video/nKmBg-jOYUQ/video.html
@@andalltheangelssay212 Thanks for the Bowie link. His voice, so crisp and clear. I love that man! Think he does concerts in Heaven?
Boooaaah göttlich. Bowie best man!😘🙏
5:25 Great Mike Garson solo!
I loved the piano player you could tell he loves playing David Bowie’s song. I glad I found this CZcams page.
Excellente version de la chanson de Jacques BREL. David BOWIE en a interprété une autre accompagné seulement par le piano de Mike GARSON. Jubilatoire !
BOWIE!!!! Thanks for sharing this. I Love it.!!! Can't help but to cry. Beautiful song. R.I.P. David Bowie
damn david....awesome
He was and always will be my hero 😢
The ending of the song means to much for him that he couldn't even finish the lyrics and that is what makes him so loved from so many... ...interpretation at the ending where it looks like he is going to break is far beyond perfect.....Bowie was human.....
david, you will be forever in my heart and in my mind
Fantastic performance wish I'd been there, and looks stunning as usual. He was so naturally funny too, A Burl Ives song ha ha Bowie was adorable. Love you forever David. XXXXX
You're right, there will never be another David Bowie! Of course not. Do you know why? Because we don't need a "copycat"! Bowie will live on until the end of time! He was & is my fav male singer EVER! In college, one of the guys in my class & I spent some time in my living room, correographing a dance to "Fame"! We had a blast & my old self now wonders how did I ever get so low to the floor? 🤣🤣 ROCK ON!!! No one can take away your memories! For Love of the Music!
Jazzy stuff. Good one.
“ME ME ME” Thank you ⭐️
Stunning😍
OMG...He's perfection!
Authentic forever -right down to his passing. Always Bowie.
Freaking AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Garson on the keys!!
Brilliant. Everyone was on top form here
Jeeeeeezzzzzz. ♡
wow amazing, CLASS
Great piano accompaniment.
omg - top this
Adoring Bowie; myself and son being born on January 8th... he was very special to me and my ears.
As you may know Elvis Presley was also born on 8 January
@@MrAdriancooke yes, of course. Also, Stephen Hawking and Carolina Herrera
I love how he takes eight and a half minutes to say what he wanted. One of my fav of his Prog songs.
Magical!
I love the old noir style.
ABSOLUTE GENIUS
Cabrels is on fire here! Nice jazzy bit at the beginning :-) And then comes Mr Carson. What an unbelievable musician!
DAVID DIESE PERFORMENC VON MY DEATH IST DIR GUT GELUNGEN.👍👍👍👏👏👏 SUPER SUPER SUPER 🎼🖤🖤🖤🎤🎷🎸🌞
Der sieht da so hammergeil einfach aus 😁
Mais uma grande interpretação do Bowie para essa canção fodástica!
People were told to wear green at my friend's funeral. I only had a green olive shirt I was going to wear. It didn't feel right to put something on that said we all live. 🌹
Ahahah he was amazing I love is music...xxx
Like David was. Beautiful!~
A gorgeous song
Wow!
Breathtaking
life changing
Bowie, for all time ♥️🎵🎤
For my money not a patch on Scott Walker's version of this brilliant Brel classic.
this is unreal
love it, though even better is the version with just him and Garson.
Merci pour votre retour 👏👍💕💕
By far the best version of this song, imo
Wow.
soul love
perfect as always
What a show with great nuggets like this gem. Went to Supper club a couple nights before too...man those were some shows!
I'm a huge Bowie fan but I prefer the original acoustic guitar version as in the Hammersmith Odeon show on DVD with
him in full Ziggy costume and makeup. That 1973 performance was really powerful and his expressions and voice were totally masterful. This 1997 musical version seems pretentious and unemotional. Some songs of Bowie that he performed early on are very difficult to reach with the same emotional intensity in his later years. Some songs are better done as simple as possible and not layered with all the other instruments which ruin the emotional impact.
Yes .. I agree .. Love Bowie but this version is a bit over the top ... well sung but it seems he's just going through the motions with the song without the feeling when he did it as Ziggy when he probably thought he might actually die pretty soon ... Mike Garson's solo is OK - a bit cold, technical and reminiscent of Lady Grinning Soul ....
Yes agree, I prefer the first version on 1973, in my opinion is more involving, but even this one is Stu Ning.
@@stevegraham24 Yes, it lacks the alien connection of Ziggy and Bowie is singing without any affectations like he did when playing a character. This was made in 1997 which in my opinion was a down period in his career when Earthling and his preoccupation with drum n bass was happening. Whenever I watch the 1973 version I am reminded of a great cult movie, "Liquid Sky," which made reference to Ziggy as they were both similar.
Father want us be not crying that he is gone, but can we be as powerful as him?
Interesting to listen to the original version by Jacques Brel, singed in French, the Bowie first performance in English, and this one. Love them! 🙏🔥❤️🔥🙏💫⚡
Jacques Brel - anther legend. Check him out, his performances were amazing.
