remarkable that the manager says "there's the plus there it is". Imagine being bottom of the table with a -62 GD and still being able to find positives to motivate his group. Mindset 100/100.
Andy was a shit manager
That's just delusional cherry-picking and selective bias where I come from. Not mentality, just denial.
You clearly do not know anything about football You arsehole get out of here and go watch American football or baseball.
This is about man management and taking every game as it comes as when you are in that situation if you step back and look at everything then there will be nothing to fight for. MENTALITY 10/10 MAN MANAGEMENT.
Maybe you need to actually play football to understand that. Classic CZcams armchair football fan think you know it all. Probably support man united but have never been to Manchester. Good bye
That's the most generic thing a manager can say. Especially when they're at a rubbish club, they can't say that they're teams rubbish can they?
😂😂😂😂
Super film, loved it. A horrific season - certainly the worst in my 38 years of supporting Dover Athletic. But Jim (the Chairman) was right. Football is about following your club, meeting your mates and enjoying yourself on the terrace. What league you happen to playing in at any one time is just detail. COYW!
My team looks very likely to bomb out of the EFL for the first time. I'm kind've at peace with it now and your description fits with my view. I'll still be there with my mate, my dad etc whatever league it is.
Personally never understood the fans that still give Jim grief. Great chairman and did what was best for us. I'd rather be in the NLS for a few seasons then not have a team to take my son to see. Or worse yet...have to travel to Folkestone.
From Glasgow keep going Dover ✊🏻✊🏻
I cant even comprehend what it must feel like as a fan to not win a entire year.
That is actually almost torture.
Tbf from a Torquay fan was great to watch wish there was more documentaries about clubs in our league. Think from watching this it was a good choice getting rid of the gaffer as it didn’t look like he was motivating the team at all. Hopefully you guys come back in the league again and it would be a good watch tufc vs dover. Or the way this season for us is going we may join you in the south😂
Respect to the chairman to sticking to his promise that he made to the fans.
What the owner said was spot on. The clubs who tried to break away from the PL got a slap on the wrist but Dover got deducted points for making the best financial decision for them. Its completely unjust.
My team when i was a kid was like this. Pinner town. We went 2 or 3 seasons without a win losing 99% of gamesWe drew a game 1-1 against a good team and half our team was in tears celbrating on the pitch at the end. The other team was like wtf lool
Pinner in Harrow?
Lol. They wouldn't understand.
Covid 19 Dover 0. Thank you Jim for all you have done. At least the trees are growing back now Effiong can’t hit them anymore. Dover til I die
I turned this club around on FM so it has a very special place in my heart even as a northerner
Schalke managed something similar going without a bundesliga win between January 2020 and January 2021, although we won in the cup against lower league competition twice. Currently on a streak of 37 1st division away games without a win, we're paying the price for years of terrible mismanagement
I would be curious for you to explain what exactly went wrong with Schalke. What happened?
96 Fan here, I hope we wont see you guys in the 2nd league you dont belong there! Schalke Fans are Champions League Level
Got our first division away win last week 😄 finally!
Respect to the manager for sticking with the team through the whole season.
Or he could be the reason why the club did not progress at all.
Ask you this where tf they gonna get a manger they ain’t got money to spend and plus who would mange on a losing streak like they said in the beginning were there a Ryan Reynold to buy the club? No stfu
Next choice was a paper lad or a cub scout
When Jurgen Klopp managed Mainz, an almost bankrupt club, he had to do everything including ordering grass seed until he got the budget together to hire staff. He said it was the best training he ever had & it made him the coach he is today. Dover Athletic needs the same information that the top clubs have. It’s not all about the money. @@Lildanny527
This was more compelling viewing than the entire season of Welcome to Wrexham
Yes! Exactly!
It's insane how you're willing to create amazing documentaries time and time again and then willing to show them for free.
Great Job!
One of the best channels on YT!!
@@NathanMcCabe88 it's ashame the presenters are absolutely flannels can't stand the channels presenters there absolute melts.
My Physical Education Teacher in my secondary school was called Chris Kinnear, he was a manager at Dover Athletic Fc for a combined 15 years, I believe they let him go despite the club being in the National League and being 8th the previous season before he left, he also got the club so close to playing in League 2, so sad to see what’s happened
Is Chris Kinnear still working in football?
Great documentary! Nice to see the inside story of this absolute crisis. Such a likeable manager too. All the best to Dover going forward!
he's gone now, good for fans and himself
We miss you Copa
From a Celtic fan this is PROPER football hats off gents 👏🏻🍀
Andy is a top guy! Had the pleasure of playing under him a few years ago 💪 Huge respect to the club, we had done great memories there 🙌 DAFC!
I remember when I was a boy Dover were the team to beat in the old Beazer Homes League they came to Crawley Town's old town mean ground and blasted them 2-1 I remember them being so good. For a long time they were the best team but couldn't go on because their league was naff.
Never forget that night I was so impressed they had a black guy up front who was levels above on a sand covered bog,
my dad whispering to me to watch how he closes down and how alert he is.
I use to love going to Crawley.
In those days you could sneak in to the bar and see the players talking to fans.
To those young eyes it seemed so bloody epic.
Love the way the manager handled the season. Never gave up on his boys.
I never thought I would be so invested in Dover Athletic. Great film as always COPA!
Hate to tell you but look at the National League South table
27:45 I don’t know how good his tactics are, but you can tell, especially here after being sent off, that he knows how to lead a locker room and manage his players. Great coach from what I can tell.
This is why non-league football is the BEST! I'm American, but love English non=league football (my team is Weymouth), but it's amazing how these non league teams are able to survive with a payroll less than one Premier League player! But the players, fans, and communities get on, and there's a stronger community bond with these non league teams than with top tier teams.
Funny comment by Dover's chairman about foreign owners not wanting to invest in a small club like Dover. I wish I had the money to invest in Weymouth. Non league football isn't about raking in tons of money - it's about the community! As for the Premier League - they have no problem sending young players to this level on loan for experience, but how about sending money to this level to improve the facilities?
Hats off to you for supporting Weymouth. Totally agree that the premier league should do more
@Carlos Fellows I know it's not the players fault, but when you get players like Erling Haaland who is about get £500k a WEEK, it really puts it into perspective the gulf between the top and bottom rungs
Non league football and lower divisions below is real football, real passion and love for the game. It’s absolutely sad what has happened to the PL if we’re talking about England specifically. Billions of pounds, tourist, Instagram fans, big names and the grassroots gets absolutely ignored. Shame.
Marvellous documentary. It's a sad story. The club has a lot of heart, but it was a sorry place to be when Southend visited. Dover put up a good fight, and that fight is well represented in this film. I hope they can enjoy better times moving forward.
Amazing story. Not enough has been produced on the incredible rort that happened with money during COVID. There are some people in the game who at a minimum should be out of it, if not in prison for misappropriating funds. The people who just look out for themselves when times are tough are the ones who burn things to the ground rather than create legacies. Well done to everyone involved in this club. The tough times may last a year, or many year but you have to keep going. As they said early, you don't want to be a Bury and have that community lose a key pillar of the towns identity.
Outstanding stuff. I'm Sutton, so that season was our first in the Football League - Sutton and Dover are very similar clubs, we spent most of the last 30 years playing each other, either in the Ryman, the Conference South or the Conference, and it could very easily have been the other way round.
you guys always film absolutely great documentaries, loved it!
3:18 with the scarf went to 15 away games last season and saw the only away win of the season!
The Intro with that Song gave me Goosebumps and I dont even live in England and cannot relate to Dover
Fantastic documentary. Really shines a light on the situations of the lower level clubs
Been waiting for a new vid for what felt like forever! LFG lads!
Thank goodness you lot uploaded.
Great documentary. Gillingham fan here (and of Kent football), hope Dover can get back up to the Conference within a couple of years. I'm sure Hessy's a lot less stressed nowadays 😆
STILL the best!!! Thank you SOOO much for this content! You ARE football!
Amazing documentary!!!!
Loved it. Great to see 👍⚽️
Dover will always be my club. I have supported them more than 40 of my 78 years. We will be back up there to scare you teams looking at these comments. We are building a strong young team with new players to come. 2023 It will be our year. COYW. Thank you for this video..
This is brilliant. As a Hereford fan I'll keep an eye on their results from now on.
Can't believe Nicky Adams is still at it. Well played lad, a true Bury boy!
Great video & love the house tunes too!
Luton fan here. Never give up. You have a really good set up and a ground that deserves better. The good times will return if you believe.
Great story!
Great programme all the best to Dover for the future
Despite not understanding them half the time, i lik this documentary..
About time you lot uploaded on this channel again
grassroot football always has so many great stories to tell... kudos COPA90 for capturing this paricular story..
I'm dedicating this to my club.
.Leeds United..The Team that forgot how to win.Great video.
My favorite FM english club from day 1. COYW
Big up dover, battled well at many places despite being relegated early, from a shaymen.
love hearing about clubs most people dont think twice of. just proves we all have our own stories
Compare the "Fairy tale" of Wrexham to the reality of this.
This film says so much more than anything "Welcome to Wrexham" could about real football.
Great watch this
Amazing documentary. Top tier. Should be on BBC. More like this please. Fabulous. I'd like to see a Barnet one; one of the best yo-yo clubs in the conference and one about the lowest division in the country.
Loved this.
Hi good friends, and I cry in my heart after one of my favourite respective clubs ever Dover Athletic who are right now, currently playing in the National League South and in fifteenth position with forty three points would at times, would not get to win a football match but luckily so far this season as they have won eight out of their thirty matches and they need to win some more matches to finish at least in the top ten and start the next season all over again but in a positive note!!!COME ON DOVER ATHLETIC!!!🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️
Great club one of the only things to proud of being from Dover
Brilliant. Really interesting
Thing is with players who moan after the game is it’s very frustrating for the manager as the players have 90 minutes to hold on to a game so it must be the most annoying things hearing players moan after a loss. Also there’s a difference e between frustration and just moaning
I remember the covid season when they couldn't fullfil their fixtures because they were on furlough and I thought "serves them right the other clubs are still playing" but watching this now and his view on being debt free my view has totally changed... Oh and btw I'm a Morecambe supporter you beat us in the first round in the F.A Cup a few seasons ago in better days.
All the best for the future. ♥️
Remarkable documentary!
Was a horrible season. Watched 4 away games and only missed 1 home game as I had to isolate before surgery
Media producer here needs a pay rise. That was unreal!
Very charming video
At least dover athletic fc are still up n running never say die keep going lads
You should come do a derby days in Monterrey, Mexico. Two teams that are playing very well and with fans that are very passionate.
Wow. Those facilities have certainly been upgraded since my days at the club. Good watch. Sorry that the club had such a horrendous season! Good luck next year.
Great Film this is 10/10😂
Dover's got over the hump, but Durham AFC is still very much in it
I know that feeling, I’ve made my own team last year April 16th, 2021. I named Excelsior United and recruited few players. The first season almost made it to playoffs in 8th place and suddenly went down to 15th place in the first season few wins and more losses. through the year my teammate is very talented not gonna lie, it just the chemistry that I need to improved. My team is still considering amateur not ready for semi-pro yet until we make it through more phases. It frustrate me a lot, and almost giving up as an owner but gotta remember how I started before and continues to grind. My team is going to be champions one day.
In conclude, never give up. No matter how tough the year is.
What league?
Another club to follow, go on dover!!!
Great club, I hope things work out for them.
like the chairman said the clue was with us, i live in dover so i support dover and Newcastle because some family were born there so yeah, i used to watch every home game from 2015 to 2019, i stopped because my dad died and he would take me , so i stopped watching 2020-2021 i watched a bit 2021-2022 nothing , but am going back to watch they next home match. Btw it seemed like my dad was the thing holding the club and town together as when he died in 2019 it all went down but before that we were playing really well with people like Rickey miller who was so good he got pushed into 3rd tier. rip
Respect!
“OH MY FUCKING GOD” best quote
Great, well made video about grass roots football. Shame This film is not shown to the old boys club( The F.A.), so more of the money from the top league's can be shared out.
Save Dover Athletic FC 🙏🙏
As of Feb 2024 Dover are bottom of NL south, but have won 3 games this term.
We're getting officially relegated to Isthmian Premier League on friday
It was wrong what they did to Dover. The fair play rules were brought in because a couple of clubs went bust to gain an unfair advantage. Dover didn't do that the same as my club Wrexham didn't do that and it almost destroyed our club completely. Dover we're fantastic at Wrexham and very unlucky. Hopefully they can build again and come back stronger.
Hess is well known mostly for taking Gillingham to the top 10 of Championship and playing in the sides that got to the play offs. His management is pretty no nonsense but his players just weren't performing. The points deduction didn't help but some of them looked like they have an ego and not fully putting their all into the team
Fair play to Hessenthaler
Just found this. As Andy would say F'ing killer . Copa90 thank you so much. Real Footy story.
Used to live in Dover, was a really good documentary & though not this season, will be back promoted to national league again
really good
Good luck from a Rotherham fan
"its a poor town" Wrexham ain't exactly Monte Carlo
Was thinking the same!
wrexham much nicer than dover pal...
@@jskeggs_ Being a poor town doesnt stop buyers... Hull is one of the poorest in the country look what happened there
@@connorglover8720 it does when you're in the 6th tier, what buyer wants to invest in a team mid table in the 6th tier with a poor town and not got a 360° span
@@connorglover8720 I'm not saying that's the only reason but it definitely does contribute.
To think just a few years ago they were knocking on the door of the EFL, being around about the play offs every season
Super interesante
I've always thought Hessenthaler was a top bloke!
Southend United fan.
Good luck Dover 👍 💓
For a second I thought this was about Liverpool haha
George is such an impact player, Chelsea will be knocking at the door for him soon mark my words 🤣
Couldn't agree more in regards to how the money situation in English football is totally messed up. Being a Millwall fan which in comparison to Dover are doing far better in terms of finances but even in the Championship you have related clubs coming down with parachute payments who then almost always go straight back up and if not in season 1 they will be back up within 3 seasons. This cycle has been going on for over a decade now and we have clubs being brought, dodging FFP rules and dominating not because they have some magic football tactical skills but because they can buy the very best. Those clubs at the top should have a certain % of the incoming money going down to all clubs right down to the lower leagues.
my mate supports Dover also
Come to cyprus for omonoia 1948 again. Now they renamed to omonoia 29 of may and they are 5 games away from the promotion to the 1st divison.
seems fitting the club is struggling financially when the chairman and manager are wearing rolex’s and driving bentleys 🤦♂️
It's more of a passion enterprise than a good business model, especially the smaller the club is. I used to own a club in Mexico and we never were profitable, it cost me a fortune just to break even over the years. It's also a vicious cycle once the results don't show up the attendance decreases just when you need money the most.
The Chairman also spent 120k on new floodlights. 50k every year on a new pitch and 500k on the new family Stand. He has also paid the players and staff wages out of his own pocket as recently as December 2022 when we only had 2 home games in 28 days. Who gives a shit if he drives a Bentley.
That George is abit delusional mind 😂
Last season was shit. But we're still here. Better to be relegated and spend a few years rebuilding than going bust the same way Bury, Macclesfield and most likely Southend have. COYW!
Could we please get a story on the state of Southend United at the moment? A historical club on the verge of extinction.
As someone who lives in Eastleigh, you’re welcome
Up the mighty whites ⚪️⚪️⚪️
When does the video of Argentina's world cup win come out?
As a dover fan jim doesnt care for the community he cares for profit. He has on number of times he blames fans
I don’t see how any chairman thinks you can return profits in this division of football. The fact that he hasn’t put you guys in debt since owning the club is great for your guys long term health as well
@PhatPhinger will for ever be grateful for keeping us out of debt. I am completely on this side for the why we stopped playing. Its just the lies of him caring about thr community and fans
I mean that’s clearly ridiculous, the club is loss-making, always has been, and Jim underwrites the loss every year. Nearly £3m to date. Hasn’t taken a penny out.
