- After an incredible season in Serie B, Venezia FC found themselves on the precipice of their first promotion to Serie A in 19 years. Martino Simcik went to Venice to witness their historic promotion and find just what it means to the city's local residents. On the night, home town hero Riccardo Bocalon scored late, securing Venezia FC's place in the top flight.

@Samuel Barker yeah, they still have a very pronounced sense of community (and view the others as well...others), since they've been City States for the better part of medieval age, somewhat in rivalry with each other, anyways there's a interesting video about that by the guys here, even they brushed on this with the Brescia vs Atalanta Darby... Spoiler alert, flags aren't even the most important simbol, that honour sometimes belongs to a Tower Bell ... :)
The name itself of this phenomenon, campanilismo, comes from the Italian word campanile, which means exactly "bell tower". The reason being that, historically, the cathedral's bell tower was the highest building in each city, the one visible from farthest away, and thus it often became a symbol for the city itself.

This club is really appealing and marketable to the global audience thanks to their historic and unique city so now that they will have more international exposure which can help them stabilise in Serie A.
Yes they can potentially be a seria A regulars perhap not top 5 but maybe midtable team. With such a beautiful, historic, nice weather and touristy which they could attract investors and fans around the world to support them. Chances are big name players will probably sign for venezia too since they're in seria A now

I remember watching this great club in the 90s/2000s saw some great matches and just loved watching them. Absolutely delighted to see them back in SERIE A. I will definitely be watching venezia again next season.

LOOOVE THIS! Club promotion is much overlooked features, but clearly share the same passion as winning Champions League (sometimes even more). Complimenti Venezia! I remember the days of Recoba and surely Pippo Maniero. I visited the stadium once, when they were in Serie C.

Il ritorno del Venezia in serie A è stato una sorpresa, anche se fin dalle prime partite si vedeva che era una squadra con qualità importanti non avrei scommesso un centesimo sulla sua promozione.Comunque penso che il merito principale sia di Paolo Zanetti che già lo scorso anno stava facendo cose buone ad Ascoli e poi è stato esonerato ingiustamente alle prime difficoltà della squadra senza tenere conto che andava difeso in quanto era nuovo alla categoria.Va bene dai Veneziani godetevi la promozione e in bocca al lupo per la serie A

So happy to see this I'm Italian American born and raised in Bensonhurst Brooklyn but I also have Italian citizenship my moms family is from Trapani my dads family is Neapolitan and I have family in naples still I've been to Italy more than a dozen times and Venice is a really special place not just in Italy but the world and I really like seeing the locals showing up and supporting the club especially cause so many locals have been priced out by tourists and air bnb and the tourists having really devastating effects on the city really happy to see this especially during this time in the world
