I agree the clio is better looking but I don't think the fiesta looks very American. I drive a fiesta st and on the road my car looks European compared to everything else
The brakes on the Feista st are really really good I've never had brake fade yet and I've driven mine pretty hard it's the best all round hot hatch and has been for 3 years or so so the French have a bit of catching up to do on how to improve on the Feista
The problem I have is a like the Clio. Yes I miss the manual but I think I could get over it. The fiesta is brilliant to my eyes I like the styling but I do have a soft spot for the 208 gti I'm just glad they've found their mojo again
I live in Toronto, Canada. Ive never even seen a Clio, but obviously a Fiesta. I only really watched this review because of Chris Harris' personality! Excellent info and entertaining to watch! They should drop Tanner Foust and have Chris as a third presenter
Fair enough that's one out of many. The best thing I advise you to do is not worry about a review and test drive them all yourself like I did and I went for the ST in the end, purely down to how well it handles. Pick the right one for yourself.
i find it odd in some shots its clearly molten orange in colour up to and including lining up and not once it goes.i know the molten orange colour changes dramatically in different lighting conditions but not to a red even burgundy colour as i had one
I'll have my Mountune MP215 kit finally fitted after over a year of having my ST, I wanted to get really used to the stock performance so I'd feel the benefit from the Mtune kit. So excited! If I'm honest I think Chris Harris is the reason I bought a Fiesta ST! Loved his review of it.
@@richardhurr31 funnily enough I didn't actually go with Mountune, I went for a Revo stage 2 kit instead running somewhere between 240 and 250 hp, full Milltek non res turbo back exhaust (with Milltek sports cat), airtec intake, intercooler (can't remember brand) and I was NOT disappointed haha. Only thing I was disappointed with was how often I needed to change the front rubber lol
Thanks for the english subtitles!!! it´s make easier to me understand the video!! I´m from Brazil and english it´s not my native language!! So if can put subtitles in all of these videos i´ll be greteful!! Thanks!! and congratulations for the channel!
WhiteMoonLights That's a comparison between the stock versions of each car. The Fiesta ST in this video has been fitted with the Mountune Performance package giving it 215 hp.
Well with the new Clio Trophy having 220BHP and 260Nm of torque (280Nm with overboost in 4th and 5th!) I'm glad I've gone for the Clio..... I know it's more expensive but it just has so much more going for it than the Fiesta..... And if a lot of it is about talk as Chris says the the new Clio trophy has almost 100Nm than the stock Fiesta and OVER 100Nm in the later gears.....
What was the relevance with the Cup car? I have a 172 and love the look of the new Clio, agreed lots of people say they prefer the Ford (maybe because cheap lease deals allow the hot hatch generation to drive a brand new car??) But the last 3 minutes of this video honestly make it look like Renault just asked you to drive their Cup racer to take the spotlight away from the Ford winning in a straight line at the start of the vid...
Really liked the Vid and both cars, but I keep wondering what that performance upgrade was all about on the ST?. If I had kids but still wanted a small rocket I would no doubt take the Clio of those two. Perhaps the Fiesta should have been a 4 door in this vid ( like the two door much better though). The ST looks really good and I even liked the Clio a lot when that came out (contrary to a lot of others) the ST is just more appealing and aggressive looking - The Clio feels more grown up which might be good for non Hot Hatch versions but for HH not so. Good comparison.
Alex Napper Even with the Mountune kit it's easily over 1000€ cheaper. That pays for 2 sets of Michelin pilot sport 3 tires. Renault has blown it by not having a manual as standard. It's a hot hatch requirement. It's not playing in the league of cars like GTR, 911, and lambo's. and what not.
It's nice there is now a car choice for everybody. The Clio for the gadget brigade, The ST has followed on from previous Clios but with the torque that everyone that didn't like to use a gearbox and a cam tuned powerband moaned about and the 208 GTI for the people that want a more everyday hot hatch in this sector. It's a good time if you have the money. No one needs to bother with any over priced VAG crap for a change.
BurqaKing! thats fricken awesome! Totally agree the track if the place to explore the limits. Had errands to do all day. Took the wagon out and slow to warm up / fluctuating temp. Also wouldn't stay composed when pushing on a tight 450 degree onramp that is well cambered but drops maybe 8m. To the shed to do the thermostat (stuck halfway open) and flush + new coolant. Check tyre pressures (had done that when I picked it up but checked for changes) still all the same so check alignment, ...cont
Exactly :D Really I wanted to see Chris compare the standard ST to the standard Clio. But I guess he has already said his opinion on that, which is in a conflict with the internet.
makes me wonder whether that fiesta was driven with the air con on like in the early part of the video which shows the as air con on as we all know thiswill slow the car down a bit,but it will pee all over a standard clio sport.i know so(ive one in st3 guise).like chris says above 60mph it is so aggressive in mountune guise
Some of the go-fast goodies we never get over here in the States. We got the Focus ST, but I didn't know they made a Fiesta ST too! And the Clio is cute too.
Yes, that is true but the idea that first gear is furthest (besides reverse) from you rather than right up to your right thigh (or left in that case). It would definitely take some getting used to, but not impossible.
You should do a Ford Fiesta ST vs. the Opel Corsa OPC, same power range, both with a stick and pretty much same size (the European version of the Fiesta at least), would be great :)
Forcing people to have a 5 door with auto box only in this sector is going to put a lot of people off, especially fans of the old clio....which was 3 door with a 6 speed manual. Also I bet that gearbox is at least part of why the clio is so much more expensive than the ST. Kinda shot themselves in the foot there really.
+soundseeker63 yes clearly based on the comments you're absolutely right. I suppose people get hot hatches for the driving pleasure and fun of it all, not sheer speed, and as such the 6 sp fiesta is miles ahead in terms of popularity.
+lalala kieran In australia the clio has seen a massive boost in sales over the previous gen clio due to the EDC gearbox. I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to also have a manual option but Renault stated that it was one or the other and chose to go dual clutch. Everyone is still hoping for a manual Gordini though and that would be a nice car. In this price bracket though the most popular small sports car in aus is by far the toyota 86
Daniel Bradey golf gti's are everywhere in Sydney and polo gti's too are very popular. I got a golf gti 2011, manual of course, love it. really is manic little car when pushed not always so mature
Yeah. But in Straya so few people can even operate a manual. It annoyed me so much, that a lot cool used cars that I wanted to buy were only available in auto. Auto gearboxes are a huge market there. In Europe however, manual is still the stuff most people can use/want to have/buy. Props to the few Aussies that drive stick.
Would be interesting to see that Clio Cup edition go up against the Ford Fiesta RS (like Ken Block drives). Would also like to see the Mountune Fiesta up against a regular ST to see if the difference is really worth the extra cash.
pt 3 Some of the offramps etc, all Auckland NZ. Westbound on Esmonde Rd, descending left hander to get on to SH1 Northbound. Northbound on SH1, get off at Albany Expressway / Greville Rd, right hander on the roundabout and switch to the left that rises steeply to get back on SH1. Huia Rd and on to gravel on Whatipu Rd.
the next Golf 7 R will ( if I remember correctly reading it on top gears website ) have the haldex drive like all the other R-series cars from them BUT it will be able to send 100% of the power to the rear wheels if you want so or it requires it
OK... so the clio the high performance one in the last part of the video. How do you get that kind of race car sound in a stock fiesta st or clio? Is that actually the sound from the exhaust or is it an entire different engine set-up? That sound is the coolest sound in the world and I would give my left leg to have that high pitch spooling whine of a race car in my stock fiesta st.

i am from north america so i don't know this... but whenever renault is mentioned, everyone says it's unreliable and will slowly fall apart. is this true?
Dual clutches put out amazing shift times but in anything like a hot hatch I just don't think it's needed, people don't buy a hot hatch for maximum speed they buy them for fun. Just think a manual better suits both these cars
We can't get the Clio here anyway. And the Fiesta ST is only available as a Four Door which I don't mind I don't get caught up in how many doors a car has. I want a Focus ST because it's larger and nicer inside but every time I watch a video by Chris or by Matt @ Smoking Tire on their Modifed ST,it makes me want one especially if the banks won't let me have a loaded up Focus ST, might as well get a Fiesta ST, loaded get a tune (not Mountune in the US that's too conservative), exhaust and something I won't mention, increase the power by 40%... Its the small car that's good at EVERYTHING and that's hard to ignore.
I think the Ford stays true to the original definition of what a hot hatch should be. The Renault is trying to change the hot hatch formula which isn't broken in the first place.
@Forza4You My e36 m3 has the dog leg gear box and it's really natural. First gear feels like its in the same place as normal and you have to really reach for reverse.

Having driven a clio 4 RS cup chassi for a bit more than 11.500 km to this day, I completly agree with Chris Harris regarding the gearbox. It works just perfectly well and is a real bonus in everyday conditions. The car is fun to drive and probably better than the ford for a daily ride on UK roads. 5th gear review is just plain stupid.
