I'm addicted to climbing videos, that makes me a virtual hero.
Watching that gave me shivers, totally encapsulates all you try to climb for. And the shrieks of falling and winning all are worth it

First Ascent Extreme Freeclimbing = Possibility of dying, breaking bones, paralysis, amputation, . . .). Sounds worth while to me; as long as it feeds the family.

You should have a MRI to see if you have a broken tissue or fiber that once activated, it tends to break. Last year I had broken one small bone on my arm and hadn't kept it properly under gypsum immobilization and that for just one week. I still had pains when I was moving my arm and until I hadn't a period of 2-3 weeks without moving it at all, my pain haven't left. Couple months later I restarted training and now it's 98% healed.
I saw this movie. It was one of the best ones I saw. I really enjoyed it. The classroom thing was stupid though, It made me feel like i was just watching Bam Margera being "crazy"
i think the screams right before their falls are the most pure scream of terror. I mean they know they are tethered yet I dont think anyone could not panic and scream as you fall from a cliff.

its all about the Mind and will.. you have that and you can do anything
there are differences between free climbing, aid climbing and free soloing. i think it's confusing because no one really talks about aid climbing anymore because it's not done as often. aid climbing means using equipment to aid the actual climb. free climbing means with rope/quickdraws to prevent falls, but you're climbing the whole way. free soloing means no rope and is different from free climbing, despite the names! hope this helped :)
I love, admire, and respect these guys and gals soooo much, "It makes Yosemite look like pre school" ive been to Yosemite, it's no kindergarden, if i ever get to be half as good i will die happy, and if that has to happen, let it be on a mountain or rock face...............

They are amazing and all but I'd rather get that same feeling from inventing something. Still the first, same great feeling, no bodily risk, and more useful for humanity.
None. It just takes a different kind of person. I've loved the rock ever since my mother put me on a rope a 4. I don't climb anymore, I have severe RA now and the old climbing injuries never stop hurting.
But my daughter did call me yesterday to pay for a new pair of LaSportiva's rock boots...lol
My own mother, summited Mt.Rainier in 1939. My 72 yr old brother climbed Patagonia and was a Pro Climbing Instructor for many years. For some, it's in our blood. :-)
So I've heard lol, could you imagine lol. Would love to see it though!

for instance someone very short or someone with any genetic complication that puts them at a noticeable disadvantage. i would say that all these features are on a sliding scale. so its not necessarily possible to classify someones characteristics as advantageous/disadvantageous unless blindingly obvious. hence i believe that small incremental advantages play a roll in refining who really is the best climber. hard work obviously plays a huge roll.

I agree about the new routes bit.. I'd have fun climbing the same wall for a while, aslong as it wasnt too easy. Its not really about risking your life, or climbing new places..
I'd rather climb any old route and have fun, than build a 6ft wall and jump it =]

An amazing video! I can completely understand the attraction of doing this - even if I could not do so myself!!! I don't think I could anyway. Those chaps climbing the radio tower terrify me every time I watch it!

The thing is. They dont get the adrenalinrush because then something has gone wrong. They probably do it because of the position with nothing but them, the wall and the wind. It must be a certain feeling of freedom, while youre on your way to achieve something you won't be able to achieve anywhere else and in the best case scenario, you can make the 1st ascent of a wall in the world. And yes, it is almost the with a rope, but freeclimbers have just lost the interest in ropes and prefers without
