  • UPDATE: make sure you get a bit of stem with it. I will redo this video in September but if you take just a small bit of stem with it it will grow new shoots.
    I will show you how i have successfully propagated a cissus discolor - the begonia Rex vine

    This is a heck of a good plant for my plant wall then. The constantly moist but never soggy fabrics are just as aery and wet as sphagnum! cant wait to try

    All well and good showing how to take cuttings of a rex vine, but the hardest thing is finding one in the first place to take cutting from!!! As rare as a Dutch mountaineer!!!

    Oh nice! I have one I’ve kept in a glass of water in a jar to maintain humidity with medium bright light - about a week... tomorrow I’ll try your sphagnum moss technique and compare with results - thanks for sharing!!!!

    I followed your instructions with 100% success! I'm amazed by how quickly they rooted. I started with 4 leaves and 2 are ready for planting in soil. The other 2 need to root for a bit longer. Wish I could add photos for you to see. Thank you for your great video! 😀

    This is not going to grow into a new plant. You need to root the leaf with a node attached.

    Did this ever grow into a cissus plant? It's been 5 months now and I'd love an update! Someone alove mentioned that a leaf culling without nodes will never grow into an actual plant.

      @YourBabylonPlants  Před 4 lety +11

      Hey Carlyn yes I did. It did grow a stem and I do agree with what some other have said about needing a bit of the stem. I took 5 leaf cuttings and the one you see here was the only one to actually grow Into a plant and I believe this is because it had the smallest amount of stem tissue with it. Since then I include 2cm worth of stem and have grown a further 4. I will be doing a follow up to this video to show that

  •  Před 3 lety +1

    Thanks for this video. I want to propagate it so I don't lose the plant since it did not arrive looking so great and I lost several leaves since. Is it a good idea to do that during the ending of a season or it doesn't matter?

    How is your rooted leaf doing now? I tried this method after watching your video and following your advice and it worked! All three of the leaves I started now have roots. It took about three weeks. Thanks again. I’d love to see a follow up video!

    • @YourBabylonPlants
      @YourBabylonPlants  Před 4 lety +3

      Yes I’ll share a follow up in a few weeks. I’ve planted one in a mix of soil and sphagnum for its ease in transfer. The other I’m leaving until I see the start of new foliage/ stem in the sphagnum which is my preference. They take the move hard I feel sometimes. But just keep it in damp and humidity and it will work. Please follow my channel and hit notify and you will see the next update

    • @Plantcrazelise

      The Dioscorea Discolor have to grow from the rhizome/bulb, or what they call it. Very few has successfully grown roots from a regular cutting on that one 😊

      Miss Felicity it will not grow into anything other than that leaf you are right. I’m actually rooting cissus right now but I’m rooting the lead attached to nodes. I hope people don’t watch this video thinking they are going to get a new plant by this method.
