- Take a virtual ride on Ride of Steel, New York State's only Mega Coaster! Climb towards the sky reaching heights of over 200 ft above the ground! Then race back towards the ground reaching speeds of up to 75mph!
This ride is seriously underrated, ride it in the back, especially on the left side of the train, you fly so close to the ground on that first turn you can almost touch it. The airtime is amazing, the turns give good Gs and it's a ride that has a great sense of speed. It really does feel heroic even if you are literally just going in circles
Uhm. No. Seriously one of the most wasted steel in one place.

Whereas compare this to the one at Six Flags New England. That one is way better, and uses the same amount of steel.
This is almost as bad as the Giovanola Hypers when it comes to wasting steel for nothing.
The airtime is decent but not anything crazy, I’ve had better on intamins, the drop is good in every row that’s good too.
But everything else is so average, below average compared to other hyper coasters, it was smooth and comfortable but it also had the worst layout I’ve ever seen on a hyper coaster.
The creator of this comment is either lying or a huge wuss because none of those turns pull any good g’s.
It’s fast but the layout is so lazy. If you think this is good try riding literally any other hyper coaster ever made.

I remember going to Darien Lake in 2001 and stayed at the hotel for 3 days. I went on this 20 times & think i rode in every single seat. Such a great ride.
This park is now operated by Six Flags again. Why is it not called Superman: Ride of Steel again?
I thought so, too, after they just re-acquired the park, but I figured it wasn't going to happen overnight and changes would not come out of the gate that quickly. The best reason I could think of is re-licensing with DC Comics. I actually still have my souvenir photo when I rode it the year it debuted. The coaster definitely needs a new paint job. It would be nice if they added a second train like they did when it opened 20 years ago. The dispatch times for a single train are well below average. They probably don't have a second train because of staffing and training. I'm interested to see what Six Flags will do, if anything, to improve the experience.
@@murf0118 I'm pretty sure almost all the coasters in the park have 1 train ops. It's honestly annoying, because the park usually doesn't get overly crowded, so the one train operations make lines long for no reason.
Because of the incident that happened when the man fell to his death in 2011 and died back then its was called super man ride of steel and after that they changed their name to darien lake. But the superman is now the ride of steel just because the man that died on it
@@antonyowens8752 No, its called Ride of Steel because they were sold by Six Flags, and so the park didnt have the DC licensing anymore. The accident has nothing to do with it, if Six Flags kept the park it wouldve remained called Superman Ride of Steel.

The Camera is literally attached to the frame of the coaster, that's how bumpy it is

The camera shaking actually makes the video better in my opinion it makes the coaster seem more intense and faster than it really is.
I love how this coaster has consistent speed.

When I was here loved this ride so much that I never wanted to stop going on it
I went a couple weeks ago. Though I didn’t get on this ride as I was too scared to go, I saw that the coaster had got a very nice repaint.

Man, I'm glad to hear they repainted it! I usually don't freak out about that stuff but it's not terribly expensive and it keeps the ride looking nice and park nice. Plus it's just a good thing to do period. Gotta treat these things nice while we have them...

They have never repainted it once. Only a few spots here and there. The vast majority of it is original factory paint from 1999 and it shows. It’s July 2023 and they still haven’t painted.
ive preformed with the Eden Middle School band here twice in 2022 and 2023 and this ride i Rember was going through a morning test run the first time in 2022. great place

At the time, I worked in the arcade and my buddies and I would score the plastic army men with the attached parachute and set them free upon the coaster cresting the initial drop. Good times.

1:52 I rode this for the first time yesterday and this part it what got me, and the first hill.
What are the queue lines normally for not just this ride but other good rides here (ie tantrum and predator)
Can they repaint this as how bright it use to be?!
I remember going on this back in 1999 when it first came out and when you’re travelling towards the park you got to see the first airtime hill and when it was bright red and royal blue it was a truly stunning view coming over the hill.

Man that video quality was poor for 2 years old. But it still showed how great the coasters ride looks for how poorly painted it is. Sure could use a nice coat of red and blue and make the thing shine a bit again. Gotta reinvest in these amazing machines and give them a better life while they are around. Maintenance is great but a coat of paint helps a LOT! Can't wait to ride this though one day if it's still around!

First time I was on that I cried and the worst part is the ride didnt even start yet😂😂
I went on it two days ago as my first roller coaster and I was holding the buckle upside down and was trying to get it together and I was stressing and I cried when we were going up.

I haven't been in awhile. But, as far as I know, this is the only coaster in the park I'm afraid of. I've ridden them all. But this is the one I could never bring myself to do.
I was the same way! But 2 years ago, my friends dragged me onto this ride. I was terrified, but I was so glad they did. Just keep your eyes closed for that first drop lol other than that, its sooooo fun and I was scared all those years for nothing. Even better at night

Mine eraser, motocoaster, viper, and the wooden coaster are the ones i have ridden. Ride of steel just has that big drop that has me nervous. And the boomerang goes backwards and i cant do that on a coaster
Trust me it pulls like no positive G’s and has mid airtime you’ll be fine.

So why earlier today I went on this ride (I absolutely HATE roller coasters and the way they make me feel) and It was insanely scary from my perspective. I’ve never been on something so bumpy and speedy in my life😭.

They installed cameras on the train, a person isn't recording it.
They install a camera on the front of the ride during testing
They own the ride, and they had it likely attached to a train during testing. This is the park's official channel.

Also... i didn't see a second train, they rarely dispatch the second train much before the first comes back to the station if at all before. Hm... and a recent offride of mind eraser shows red and teal cars on one train and no second train.

This coaster really isn't bad, some nice airtime and positive gs, but when looking at what it could've been, its just such a dissapointment. Replace the first helix with a separate turn and another airtime and include one more airtime after the first helix and its easily a bigger attraction.
I just enjoy the ride lol
@@calebgardner7867 It’s a terrain coaster so it’s designed perfectly to glide along the terrain and lake.
The speed makes flying close to the ground feel incredible.
I hate roller-coasters. 2 times I agreed to go on this. First time, started raining in line and the shut it down when I was next. Second time....got in....ride broke down.

Love this roller coaster but hate this park. I saw a guy finger a girl in line last year. Rolller coaster didnt make me sick, line sure did though.

While I agree the layout isn't all that exciting, it's better than nothing. You can always go to Canada's Wonderland or Cedar Point for other hypercoaster experiences and more. A 2-hour and 4-hour drive, respectively, from the Western New York area to those parks.
