  • Our Special Education programs provide an individualized learning environment for each student, meeting them where they are and providing the supports they need. TAs across our organization play an important role in helping students achieve their goals while also supporting the teacher and ensuring the classroom runs smoothly day to day.

      I have no experience working with students with disabilities. I really want to make a difference and be proactive in supporting the teachers. Any insight or suggestions? I start next week.

    I just got hired as an instructional assistant at the middle school for kids with ASD. I'm excited to be starting a new journey but VERY nervous. I'm coming from being a daycare teacher with infants and toddlers to this position. Any advice?? 💕

    • @dianagregory4850
      @dianagregory4850 Před 2 lety +4

      @Moments with Vanessa I'm a month in roughly and so far it's great! Definitely a change but a good change . It has its challenges (but what job doesn't?) I'm so happy I made the switch 😊

    • @dianagregory4850
      @dianagregory4850 Před 2 lety +1

      @Moments with Vanessa lol I got a notification 😂 so as far as pay, they based it on my years of experience (only have a few professionally) and education. It was a little lower than I thought BUT I get paid consistently bi weekly(including during the summer) and get a raise every year. Sucks it's less but in the long run it's way better than where I was. If that makes sense .

      @dianagregory4850 Před 2 lety +1

      @Moments with Vanessa the private school (infant to preschool) I was at was a great stepping stone BUT there were no benefits such as any kind of retirement, sick days (unless I used my own comp time) we never got snow days , the building was neglected, I could go on. I loved who I worked with and miss " my babies" but I needed a change . I needed to move on to somewhere that I could see myself being at long term and have the comfort of knowing I'll be taken care of down the road with retirement , sick/personal days,etc. I wouldn't have gotten that where I was .

      @Moments with Vanessa I'm so sorry I don't know how I'm just reading this now haha. The job has been great I have been a one-on-one instructional assistant with a child in the ASD program. It's been going really well and I really wish I had found this job sooner to be honest 😂 I'm really enjoying working for a regular school district

      @Moments with Vanessa way less stressful! And better hours ☺️ I really wish I had found this job at least a few years ago. It would have saved me so much grief.

      Special ed does not define who you are as a person. It doesn’t measure kindness, compassion for others, positivity or hard work ethos. It doesn’t measure your artistic, musical or physical ability, or how hard you try at things. It’s just there to support you like a crutch for now. Keep on trying and just be the best you can be, you can’t do more than that. Whatever job you end up at, be the best you can be at it and it will make you proud of yourself and you can hold your head up high.

    And then it ends up that the assistant yells at me when something goes wrong and doesn't care until I tell her I need something.
