I remember the All Star game in 2020 being competitive in the fourth quarter when they first introduced the target score format. It almost feels like you have to remind the players to play hard in memory of Kobe Bryant.
They really need to have a talk with the players and explain to them how a bad product will hurt their paychecks in future when nobody cares enough about the league to watch them play.
The refs and how is obviously all fixed is enough to turn most fans away at this point. I watch my team and don't bother with anything else. I watched 3 minutes of the ASG and turned it off. Same with the dunk contest, didn't bother with the joke of a 3pt contest. They've literally ruined my favorite sport.
It was still one of the other pathetic ASG match where there wasn't any defence 90% of the match
One example of how Jordan,kobe and Curry impact the game without them. Period.

Jordan and kobe back then have some competitive pride in their blood and It started do decline when lebron don’t want to participate in the Slamdunk contest. Now younger players are copying it.
Monday morning on GMA, the big headline about All-Star weekend was Mac McClung. It was the only thing they mentioned in the segment.
For me the last time I saw the competitive all-star game of this era was when Steph was the team captain

PER is very depending on the era you played in. If you played from 1990 to 2006, it meant something to have a high PER. In today’s game it means less.
Exactly. And the reason nobody picked jokic is because his game doesn't translate to all star. All i can remember from him in past all star games is jogging and putting up no effort. Shooting bricks when he did touch the ball.

With how rich the NBA is, put up some decent prize money, give the stars incentive to put their body on the line. That solves at least the dunk, 3 point and skills. Then add prize for MVP but also add other categories that will encourage competativeness, Most rebounds, blocks, steals, assists would make people care about defending and passing. Maybe a fun one for best highlight spot of the game. And another one I'd love to see for added emphasis, extend the bench and add the MVP Rookies from the final 2 rookie teams. This year they played the only decent basketball all weekend and they'd bring energy to the all star as they've got something to prove to the pros, and the top guys aren't going to take getting upstaged.
I end up watching old all star games on youtube all star weekend every year. I did the 03 game last year. Another good 1 was when Shaq was a Sun.
Here's my imaginary dream allstar weekend:
A dunk contest that includes stars like Ant, Ja, Zion, Lavine, Gordon, and others. New format where once you make it to the finals, it's just a "who has the better dunk" contest, not a "who gets the higher score" contest.
A 3pt contest that has Curry, klay, Dame, kat, and others. No other change needed for this event.
A 1v1 or 2v2 tournament with as many stars competing as possible. That replaces the skills challenge.
And then an allstar game with actual basketball being played, where the players actually have incentive and passion to win
They need to cancel it. Its made for groupies only.

If they wanted to prevent injuries, what if they divided each team into two sets? The first set of seven guys play the first and third quarters and sit the entire second and fourth. Then the second set who didn't play the first or third quarter plays the entire second and fourth quarters,
They should make it like a olimpic game relay... 4 quarters and 4 equal strong starting 5 .. 20 player vs 20 player in total

When asked how to improve on the game, he even said "money talks" and "more incentives".
I agree with the need for incentives, but these guys don't deserve more money to do their jobs. I suggest an incentive structure of a 50% cut on the annual salary of any player deemed to not be playing like they mean it, and a 75% cut for anyone not participating due to anything other than a serious injury.
They're still going to be well paid enough.
Not an NBA problem, it's a commissioner problem.
Want a competitive All Star Game? Each person on the loosing team will have to sit out one game in the playoffs. Were you unavailable for the All Star Game? If so, you have to sit out two play off games.
If you can't show up for the league, then you can't show up for your team.
Maybe adding some big cash incentives as Draymond said would work? but mandatory is good as well, but they might just get "injured/sick" before the all stars

Ok some changes to 'hopefully' make All Star Weekend better.
1. Fans can vote 1 to 10 for dunk contest and scores would be displayed on jumbotron.
2. Kids 3PT contest.
3. West v East.
4. HORSE
5. Michael Jordan v Lebron 1 v 1. (If MJ still has the mentality).
6. Aaron Gordon and Zach Levine Rematch.

Sadly I have to totally agree. I hadn't watched an all star game in years and was very much looking forward to this. I even stayed awake to watch it live (which, in Germany, meant tip-off was close to three in the morning). Well, I went to bed midway through the second quarter. Man, what a disappointment.
I feel like if you want to get the players to be competitive there has to be a stake in it for them. Put some money on the line for the players of whichever team wins or hell if you want to really make the game feel important go back to East vs West format and make so whichever team wins gets automatic home advantage come the finals. The would definitely motivate players with playoff aspirations to actually give a damn and play their hearts out.
What is worse is that this phenomenon is not a 2023 thing. All star weekend has been regressing in the last decade or so.
Add it to poor officiating, questionable trades getting approved, load management, etc.
Adam silver should be kicked-out; as badly as any non-performing coach.
Forget East vs West.
Let tmaking First Team All NBA honors be up for grabs between the first 2 leading players in each position at the all star game. Your team could lose but if you put in a better shift or stats than your counter part for the position, you get the honors. 🤷🏽♂️

people wanted to see GSW players to NBA Allstar game but the coaches and analysts voted for diff players one of reasons it was boring. Everybody anticipated the current champs but the league doesnt want that.
The NBA commissioner should implement rokkie deals to include mandatory dunk contest participation if they are considered to be the best high flyers in the league. Young superstars are the go to dunk contest participants anyway and they would sign it on their very first NBA deal.

What if we turned the rising and all star games into a 4 team tournament? East/west/rising/all star teams. Have the teams stand on a podium like the Olympics afterwards. Put their pride and reputation on the line.

The celebrity game was actually good
They need to make it East vs West again and winner of the game get home-court advantage during the Playoffs. or they can make 2 separate game of 5 v 5 (20 minute games) between 4 teams of the All-Stars picked.. The winner of the games play one final game. Hope that make senses. That way you will also see some players play more than 12 minutes.
What really needs to happen is they move the Allstar break. Do it like they do in football. Leave out the guys playing for a championship that don't want to get injured or play, give a last hoorah to build hype for the finals. Jokic didn't play because it's not work risking. It's not for most stars.

The professional athletes should nevertheless be able to perform a "safe" version of their day job. The sponsors and team front don't want any chance of injury on any participating players. Then abandon the match, do more extensive basketball skill or general athleticism competition. The accuracy of throwing with needle-threading like moving obstacles, the speed, 5 km run, the jump height, baseball skills or soccer skills.

Players don't want to participate om the dunk contest because, in the social media days that we live in, if, let's say, Ja Morant goes and lose the dunk contest to a G-league player the "I'm good in the west" Morant will be called upon that every single day. They are afraid of losing, they are afraid of competing, because if they lose their egos can't handle the scrutiny that they will pass through the next 2 years.

alot of players dont want into the dunk contest because its a bunch of old timers giving strict scores in something not that competitive (theres literally a full dunk league on youtube where people who only practice jumping and insane dunks on youtube, but NBA players are not trying to come down on their ankle wrong doing some insane dunk for a meaningless score)
mac popped off because he had alot to benefit from being in this all star weekend dude literally just became a brand off of winning this. mac has been famous since high school but this all star weekend secured him a good chance of signing brand deals and a NBA contract in future
Lowest ranked teams play each other for a temporary salary cap increase or draft picks the next season

Last year I watch the highlight of all star game only because of Stephen Curry I can watch him all day long even he was only shooting three without anyone on the court no matter where and when Curry is always a must watch legendary superstar in the NBA.
There is nothing in the game it's not even a real basketball game to me cause there is nothing to put fans on the edge not even competitiveness on the players at all it's like they just walking around and let anyone do what ever they want
simple, take 8 bottom feeder teams, 4 from each conference, and make a 2-3 day tourney, where two or one team gets a golden ticket to the playoffs.
2020 was a nice surprise when it came to competitiveness but then it went downhill.
Until players themselves will not be interested to play a real game, the All Star Game will be impossible to restore the glory of it
Tre Murphy and Mac Mclung were the only interesting thing that happened. Nobody cares about the 3 pt contest or skills challenge, nobody wants to see justin bieber brick fifty shots and think he is the white kyrie and nobody wants to see the all star layup lines

Honestly, DK's dunks and energy in the celebrity game had me more excited than basically anything in the actual all star game this year. Probably because it was more than I expected from a celebrity game. At this point, I kind of expect the actual all star game to suck haha

Im one of those ppl who has always excited for ASG bec it was the time that the best of the best crush each other. It's really competitive who was the best all star. But these years, theyre just walking and dunking. It makes no sense.
