      I think the problem is the surface area. In my opinion they have too few bolts on there and the few they have there are too far apart. I was expecting double the amount per rim.

      if they just invert the valve timings, i mean when piston goes down (1st stroke) exhaust valve will be opened and when piston is going up for exhaust (4th stroke), intake valves will be opened. I think Garage 54 is capable of doing that. That would be nice to watch though. I hope they see ur comment and do this.

      wheels would have to be wider for that. I'd suggest maybe welding other bolts across the tops of the existing bolts for more surface area (to keep the theme, and if there's enough clearance)

    So, I think I know why all your wheels really dig into the snow.
    If you look at a regular tire. when you put chains on them.
    The chain digs into the snow till it hits the tire surface.
    If you have huge gaps the depth of where the rubber normally would be. Like on all the chain or bolt tires you have made.
    The snow is going to dig that deep until it compacts 100% but since you have openings on the outside the snow falls through there instead of compacting.
    in other words. it is pulling up the snow and earth as an excavator bucket does. If you fill in an excavator bucket with rubber you take less of a bite of the earth.
    If you make it solid somehow behind your surface making contact with the snow.
    The less snow and earth you will tear up.
    Like your bolt tire you made if it was 38mm long. You'd only dig down 38mm into the snow. Then the flat surface would support the tire you made, and you would have 38 mm of solid traction.

    ya i guess there's a reason we don't use wheels like this. even the early metal wheels were solid round bands with traction lugs; you need something to float on softer material.

    How about DIY run-flat tyres? - Mount a conventional tyre in the normal way, but fill it with as many tennis balls as you can cram in, and inflate as normal. Now, "arrange" to have a puncture in that tyre, and see how far you can drive on it before things get interesting/exciting? - Tip... Take a fire extinguisher with you, just in case!

    Good try. But, I could see it slipping before he was welding the first bolt.
    Weld the heads to the wheel, that is a broader flat base for welding and stronger, will take more torque.
    Drill and tap pieces of rubber from old tires and screw onto the bolts. Experiment with different sizes. Try anything you can screw onto those bolts that will give surface area and traction. If they screw on, and wear out, replacement is easier. Break a bolt, weld another. There must be huge piles of old thick tires somewhere. Can they be cut with a bandsaw, drilled with a drill, tapped with a hot threaded screw? Or just heat the bolt and screw the pieces directly onto the threaded spokes. You only need threads at the end.
    Do some calculations and look on a concrete or hard surface to see how many bolts are hitting the ground at once.
    Weigh the car's force on each spoked wheel, and each spoke. You might not need 100. And they might not need to be that thick. How big a round thing can fit inside the wheel well? Why do you need wheel wells anyway? Would a bigger, lighter wheel with that many studs be better in snow and ice?
    Alternately, weld the heads to the wheel, weld thin metal around the outside. Take treads from old tires and screw or bolt to the all metal, spoked wheel. Inner wheel - spokes - outer metal ring -- old tire treads stuck on any way they will go on. Winter wheels, summer wheels, snow wheels, mud wheels. Three wheels, two wheels and slide, no wheels and hover.
    Your three thousand nails is close, but you are stuck on repeating things. Adjust the numbers as you go. Get someone to make a spreadsheet or calculate on a piece of paper. Weld bolt heads to the wheel, weld a metal thin plate to the rim. Weld fewer and shorter heads of nails to the metal wheel. So old wheel inside, few heavy bolts for spokes, thin metal, nails for traction.
    Why even use old wheels? You have them but do you need them? What is the minimum? A few holes to bolt it on? And a cylindrical place or ring to weld too? These cars are not that heavy? Do you even need all the stuff? What can you throw away and recycle? How many people in each car?
    I think you are not stretching yourself. And have not clearly understood your own motives in doing this. Who are you trying to help, and why? Tires are expensive and don't work that well in snow and ice. But why carry all that car weight? Just for pretty? Bare minimum and lots of rust preventer. Think about Mars and the moon. What would they need there? Cannot carry a lot. They need ways to make things locally. They don't need stylish. Works and easy to maintain, and fits the surfaces and conditions. Things that someone can do when you can't run home for everything. I hope i have not offended you. I wish I had time to see all of these videos.
    Your five flywheels was almost there. But you would have to find someone to help you with the stored energy calculations, angular momentum, torque and power modeling. Your feel for the performance and advantages in snow is good, but you can put things on paper or in computers and see them clearer, before you start buying and making models. Does the car industry in your country offer what people need? Before the electric car craze, many people were looking at flywheels. They can be fun. See who is around you in local schools or online.

    Thank you for the experimentation I definitely appreciate these experimentation testing different concept trying different issue area trying different ideas I like the fact that you've using bolts Maybe by putting them closer together they seem to be too far apart it leaves too much space for the snow to go in the holes I definitely think this could potentially be helpful when it concerns ice I could probably drop of it you have some grub however maybe trying the experiment with what you have already in adding up more bolts to basically fill the holes the same way you could puncture the space is so tight maybe using the same concept however I've been watching your videos time to time and it is so cool to see these experiments done way2go garage 54 you doing experimentation which I would have done which I would have liked to do if I had my own garage thank you so much

    Next video you guys should swap the brake, clutch, and accelerator pedals into different spots and see how hard it is to drive. Brake on the right, clutch in the middle, and gas on the left for instance lol. And for added fun put the shifter where the steering wheel should be and vice versa! 🤣

    How about an expanding foam injected lada? here is what you do, you drill a hole in the intake manifold below the carb, run a pipe from the new inlet, then carefully connect it up to a source of expanding foam, run the engine hard and insert the expanding foam!

    These should work on ground tough enough to not fall apart. The bolts being small and round meant it was easy for them to cut right through snow with no resistance. Then again once they cut down to the ground it was still too little surface area for them to push the larger surface area of the front wheels through snow. If it was all wheel or 4 wheel drive I think it may have moved. My guess is a firm dirt that will not fall apart too easily but will allow the bolts to sink in a bit will be ideal for these.

    Apply park brake just enough that it touches the drum, so that you have less wheel spin. Thats why it moves in reverse

    Grind some x's in the heads, and fit some paddles between bolts, perhaps starting at 20mm below heads, thinking perhaps staggered pattern with spaces, could be worth a try.

    You could probably gotten further if you had started out in 2nd or 3rd gear. That would divide the torque down to almost nothing and make it hard for the wheels to spin. I've used that technique many times on snow and ice and was able to climb fairly impassable hills.

    Could weld some angle iron on the tips or something to catch traction like tractor tires but just the general idea

    I had an idea maybe you can try using water bags around the rims like a waterbed for cars now I’m wondering what the free surface affect will do
