  • The Battle of Rorke's Drift was an engagement in the Anglo-Zulu War.
    The defence of the mission station of Rorke's Drift began when a large contingent of Zulu warriors broke off from the main force during the final hour of the British defeat at the day-long Battle of Isandlwana on 22 January 1879, diverting 6 miles (9.7 km) to attack Rorke's Drift later that day and continuing into the following day.

    They almost ran out of boolets. Good job, man! You were previously talking about how much time you spent on the film that did not involve fighting. Well, I'm here to tell you that those pauses from the fighting are actually good. You're taking the time to explain the history instead of just displaying a shootout. It's also kinda nice to have a break from the fighting during the film. It really balances the film and makes it better. So well done!

    I have to point out the very accurate use of the Martini-Henry rifle here, the very reason the British were able to fight off an attacker over 10 times their strength.

  • @LTJohnChard
    @LTJohnChard Před 7 měsíci +41

    Whilst I do think this is a very well made video, I do want to point out 3 things. The first is the facial hair. John Chard had a mustache and Gonville Bromhead had a set of sideburns. I won’t fault you for that as it is Lego and there aren’t many great representations of their style facial hair. Secondly, the few zulus that did have firearms had old muskets from trading with locals, not martini Henry rifles. Finally, Durnfords horse did not refuse to participate. Infact, upon the request to take on the zulus, moved ahead of the mission station and engaged them. They were forced to flee from the battle after running out of ammunition. The 24th foot, thinking they were being cowardly, fired several shots at the fleeing horsemen killing Corporal Anderson who was part Durnfords, not the 24th as depicted. Again, I don’t think this is a bad production whatsoever. The same mistakes were made in the movie adaptation of the battle which I assume is where many of these mistakes originated. I did enjoy the night fight, something that the movie fails to depict. I do want to thank you for making this video. Whilst there are inaccuracies, I am glad that you made it in the first place. It’s better to have people who are interested in learning about things like this than to have nobody at all. Thank you.

      Bro can I please see your source on the Durnford part? It’s not that I don’t believe you it’s just that in my studies of wiki, books, articles, youtube, etc, I’ve never heard of that part. Having a whole Calvary there then retreating is a whole new interesting part of this cool battle

    • @LTJohnChard
      @LTJohnChard Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@Settistudios I mean it says so even on the Wikipedia articles. If you look at the “strength” section, it states “NNH” or Natal Native Horse as well as “Briefly engaged then fled.” There is also a few videos that state this fact if you look up what actually happened at Rorke’s Drift.

      @LTJohnChard Před 4 měsíci +1

      I think a video by “The History Chap” titled, “The Battle of Rorke’s Drift - The Reality v the film “Zulu”” explains it the best, but I think Brandon F also made mention on it in one of his 2 videos on the topic, that being “Seriously, how did the British win at Rorke’s Drift?”

      @LCMhistory the Zulu at Rorkes Drift didn't have them because they were the reserve contingent. While they did have flintlock rifles, they used very few due to a lack of powder and balls. Plus, they were horrible shots. That's one of the mistakes the movie Zulu makes. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good movie and is mostly accurate, but that's one of those few things in it that is inaccurate
