- This video is about my project to replace the power steering box on my '72 Nova. The original has been in the car 50 years and is a stock 14:1 ratio. The new one is from Borgeson and is a 12.7:1 ratio. Here are the links to the parts I purchased.

I have a one owner 73 with 49,000 miles on it i have been working on for 20 years. Dana 60 rear, TCI Super Street Fighter TH 400 manual gear body and a new 396 cu in small block with all the goodies. I have gone through mine from stem to stern just like you so i always enjoy seeing what you are doing to yours.
Great content! Looking to swap my oem Chevelle box for this one. Sweet ride amigo, cheers.
I’ve had a Borgeson box on my Camaro for about 4 years and love it. A couple of weeks ago I ordered one for my 67 c10, installed it and found it had more slop then my original. Contacted Borgeson and they shipped a replacement out to me. I’ll install it tomorrow, look forward to seeing how she drives.
Wow! It’s been a long time thanks for the content
Yeah been a while for sure. There will be more though.
Good to see you back on! Nice job! I replaced mine a while back. Huge difference for sure.
Did yours clear your headers? I’m debating headers since a 383 is going in it and I don’t want the live gate relationship if burned plug boots, wires, and such.
What headers do you have?
Yes it cleared the headers fine, but I do not like the headers I have. I have the driver-side where the #1 position goes up and over the other three to the back of the firewall. If i did it over again, I'd get the ones that drop straight down on each pipe. There is plenty of room to do that. Mine causes me such a major pain getting to the sparkplugs for #3/5/7. Don't make that mistake!
Did your steering wheel center correctly?
I have a 73 that I am preparing to do this on
Yes it did for the most part. But I did have to adjust the tierods to get it dead on. The reason was there was so much slop in the old box that it never was accurately centered before.
@@stevesgarage7644 um doung a complete front end rebuild next week. Hoping I don’t run into too many issues. I will have the engine out so that should make it much easier. Which rag joint did you use?
Wow is that the factory truck oil pan?
Nooooo. That's a conversion oil pan.
Hey Steve, I just ran across your channel. I inherited my father's 1970 Nova and wanted to know if it was possible to get more head and leg room without replacing the bucket seats. My pops is 6 feet tall and didn't have an issue, but unfortunately, at least in this instance, I am 6'3.
Any information is appreciated. Thanks and great work, sir!
Yeah you should be able to. In my case I have separate frames under the seat that the seats mount to. That enabled me to have them cut and re-welded so that I could mount the seats much lower than stock. Take a look to see how yours are mounted.
Thank you for your response. I will take a look once I get back in town. Please enjoy your evening and kind regards!
Hi Steve, Good Vid. I noticed when you backed the Nova out of the garage for a test drive the steering wheel appeared to be bent. I noticed it while you were turning the wheel to drive forward. Top and bottom did not track in a smooth arc as one edge was bent forward about and inch or more. Maybe an illusion. I will have to check my 71 and see if it does the same. Strange. (Its at 27:00 min. into the video)
Interesting. I did not notice that. I'll check that for sure.
@@stevesgarage7644 It may be normal I just don't know. It just looked different to me. Side note. I just finished watching your video on installing the CalTracs really good.
Hey brother what bolts did you use to mount it on the frame ?
Same original bolts. Mounting is identical to the original.
Yep used my kneecap to push the damn thing up. Hurted
I order this and it hits the header and I couldn’t get it to fit 😢
That's unfortunate. You may have headers that just don't allow for adequate room.
