    Good video but should be limited to under 5 min. Key parts: bought car used @ 58K, heard noises at startup, loss of power and issues after 4K miles, describe symptoms in 1 min. Next, inspected chain and replaced along with related components. Working perfect. Done Spend time editing to hit essential points - esp the cam/crank sensor codes which resulted from compensating for improper tension. Also *** the inspection hole for the tensioner is GOLD ***

      Even shorter....If you're gonna be an owner of an Audi with the 2.0tfsi then you'd better be checking your cam phase number judiciously and the rest with vcds or a really good scan tool.

    I think the problem could have been also been diagnosed by checking the timing correction, i believe its somewhere in measuring blocks 91-94. The correction should be a max 8 degrees, with 6 being a more ideal limit.
    While the engine is already this much opened up, it maybe a good time to reseal the cam girdle as well, those have a tendency to leak oil into the spark plug holes and exterior.

    • @dtnel
      @dtnel Před rokem

      @Robert how is this done by checking the measuring blocks and does the car have to be running as have a 2011 A4 T2B5 and when engine goes to start just sounds as a starter spinning.

    • @robertficek7586
      @robertficek7586 Před rokem

      Ok that sounds like a crank no start issue, yes the engine needs to be running to check the timing electronicly. But if you can't start the motor, you want to check the trouble codes with a vcds or obd eleven first. See what codes are coming up which may be causing the no start. That's step 1
      To manually check timing
      1) compression test - quick check to remove spark plugs and confirm there is compression
      2) remove valve cover and confirm the cams are in the correct position at TDC if you suspect timing issues.
      A lot of factors can cause a crank no start, even bad sensors, so it's worth checking the codes and testing sensors before disassembling or and opening the cover.

    I wasn’t having issues till i changed the timing chain. Now I’m getting rattling. Only replaced because on high rev i would hear a slight rattle. And timing code was permanent. Now its rattles loud and i get check oil level. Any idea what it might be ?still dont have any codes. I changed all guides, tensioners and chains.

    i cant observe if new style tensioner has hole for oil feed (because on another videos where is used old tensiomer, in block of engine under upper screw of tensioner there is smaller diameter hole to feed oil into tensioner), but in new one i cant see it (also neither in slow mo) ...so does it have somewhere oil feed or it works only as spring based tensioner ?

    My Audi dealer recently told me that the timing chain was showing signs of wear and needs to be replaced. The only thing is that I’m not having any of the symptoms you’re describing. I have some clicking when the car is running idle but no lag, no loss of power, etc. I don’t trust this dealership since they’ve been wrong before so if I’m not having any engine issues and there’s no alert going off then is it possible the dealership is over calling it? I have an Audi A4 TT 2012 95k miles

    Audi dealership told me it will be around 5k to do this job. I was like what the hell. I went in for an oil leak which is the top camshaft gasket and they wanted 5k . 1700 for the water pump as well.

    We just got a diagnosis of a loose chain at 52,000 miles. That's short for a timing BELT. I thought chains were almost permanent. For now the only symptom is check-engine-light. We may wait a bit before dropping $1,200+ on a repair.

    • @pcofranc
      @pcofranc Před 2 lety +1

      Several things: 1. Time chains can last over 300K **if** oil is changed before carbon levels build up say every 4K or so. - Fore example on my 1997 Saturn (original owner) chg'ed oil every 3K miles AND never let oil got more than 1 qt low. 7 years ago when doing head gasket I measured the tensioner and it had only worn/extended 25% yet a friend had his fail at 80K miles on a newer Saturn because he let the car (which consumed oil) get 2 qts low and changed oil every 7K miles. Dirty oil with a lot of carbon from exhaust clogs the oil hole on the tensioner and that really accelerates wear. 2. You mention timing belt - which is often preferred to a chain because it is NOT exposed or depend on engine oil just a spring tensioner so weather you change oil on time OR NOT it makes NO difference the belt life. 3. Turbo engines build excessive pressure and that can pollute the engine oil with exhaust requiring it to be changed at lower miles. Turbos are magnet for abusive drivers - high revving puts extra strain on a belt or chain. 4. Belts can break from age & excessive heat - chain never will. 5. Regardless of miles on the oil - it needs to be changed when there is excessive carbon buildup and the only safe way is to test a sample at a lab or just change oil every 3 to 5K miles.

    What year model is this engine? Mine is 2010 and I want to know if that updatet guide rail kit with a bend around the crank wheel will fit my car. Your top rail above the cams is also longer than mine, making sure the chain doesn't jump easily with a faulty tensioner.

      @@majklxxx I finish change all my bent valves after the catastrophic chain tensioner failure. I can now confirm that the updated rail kit which are longer and with the mentioned bend around the lower toothwheel will fit 2010 Audi's. I asked AutoDOC in advance and they told me it is only model 2013 and up that will fit the updated version. I took the chance anyway and purchased the "wrong" kit for my car, the car runs perfect now. I also replaced the oil sump due to rust, therefore I took the extra time to remove the oil pump to get access for changing the oil pump chain included in the kit as well. All in all a 5 days job in my garage due to the bent exhaust and inlet valves. Hope I never have to redo this work ever again!
