Spoon deserved an award for best last stand in a horror movie
Motherfucker BOXED A WEREWOLF. Spoon was a legend.
there is no spoon 😞
Only person I’ve ever seen go hand to hand with a werewolf and actually seemed to be winning for a good bit.
If it had only been one on one, he could’ve easily taken it.
Werewolves have always been a big problem for us here in Scotland & thankfully we finally got a movie that took the time to show that.
I’ve not come across any stories on CZcams about Scottish werewolves? Are there many stories?
Red headed tall werewolve scottish ladies, aint that the dream girlfriend?
Aye, I ken, but at least we haven't got many Geordies, thank christ.
I got chased by a werewolf near Balmacara in the kyle of Localsh.
I think it was a werewolf but it might have been an Angus, whatever it was, it was angry.😂
Yep never clean up after themselves
Fun fact, Director Neil Marshall didn't want to make a werewolf movie with soldiers, he wanted to make a soldier movie with werewolves, and it really worked.
Also, they actually blew up the house, it was only a shell of the front and one side, the internal shots were in a studio.
A lot of the time they use sets for the interiors even if it’s a real house.
Sometimes that results in some unintentional comedy. There are movies where just the living room on the set wouldn’t fit inside the exterior they show.
@@toddjones1480 Sets also allow you to intentionally screw with the audience, such as the scene with Andy on his tricycle in The Shining, he makes around seven left turns and never once returns to the same location because Kubrick had stagehands switching out chunks of set every time Andy went around a corner.
@@krashd Danny
That's not a really a fun fact. That's more of a whatever fact.
@@SurvivorBri well, you sound like a barrel of laughs. Cheer up dude, you may not find it fun, but some people will.
Fun Fact' The 1st soldier who gets killed when his head gets ripped off through the window is an actual old friend of mine and Gym training partner his name is Lesley Simpson he was also the main Cave Demon in the Movie Descent' he's now living in Australia doing movies there' very nice humble guy.
He was schoolfriends with some mates of mine and he turned up to the pub one night when a mate was doing a gig. Totally lost my mind cos this was my favourite movie. We ended up going round some lads house afterwards for a drink and he told me about the descent which wasn't out yet. If I remember correctly he said it was called crawlspace. Good guy
@@thatbloodyjohnloader2826 Yeh Leslie is a call guy humble as well' yep he showed me pics of the making of the Descent movie i remember him saying it was Crawl Space' he also did i think his 1st movie was a Vampire movie something to do with Drugs LSD concept of being in the Blood i did watch it one time long ago lol hope to see him come back to Middlesbrough again.
How is you knowing a minor actor a 'fun fact' ?
Spoony is my favorite character, and went out in the most badass way possible.
The acting in this one is so effing good. Sean Pertwee and Liam Cunningham always deliver hard. 😍
Of course Spoon went out like a badarse. He was from the Northeast. (Not a Geordie though, that was Joe, Spoon was from east durham)
I'm still laughing at the "there is no spoon" joke 22 years later.
Just love him rucking with the Wearwolf like a UNIT!!
If spoony had had that silver letter opener, he’d have run the table on the whole pack.
@@matthewconner7800 Agreed, Spoony really was the GOAT.
"Put the spaghetti back in the bowl"
line of the year😂
Such a criminally underrated movie. Always love seeing more people discovering it.
100% agree, good cinematics and totally encapsulates the Brit Squaddie (probably most squaddies in truth) to give it a go.
"It's just that time of the month" just cracks me up.
“That’s so much insides that shhhouuld be inside” LMFAO. Dog Soldiers is one of my favourite films!!
The DVD commentary for this flick is hilarious - the entire cast working their way through a lot of beer
It's my favourite thing about the film, the magic chair & " sort that spot out on your chin " get me every time 😂😂😂😂😂
25:13 "... train dolphins to stick mines on submarines." The look on Kat's face, innocence shattered. 😂
Yep... great catch Jay! xD
@@robertraszkowski3016 Poor Kat always either getting upset at animals being harmed, or now with them being trained to do so themselves. She can't avoid it. 😄
@@Jay_delachance To be fair I am a little bit like her in that regard. I just love dogs. ;) I am so called "dog person". So I get it...
The Russians trained dogs to attack German tanks in WW2. The dog had a mine strapped to its back with a small pole sticking upright. The dog would dive under the tank and crawl forward, the stick would depress and BOOM! The problem is they trained them using Russian tanks, which smell different and sound different to German tanks. When they first tried it in action the dogs apparently turned about and ran under their own tanks...
so the program was stopped. Very fortunate for the dogs of Russia.
dont feel to bad it didnt work out too well for the US, the first time they tried it in open water the dolphins just buggered off.
14:37 Read this interesting tidbit about this disturbing sequence: "The script originally called for the dog to pull at the wounded soldiers exposed intestines, but Marshall changed it to pulling the bandage instead. “But the reaction is that people either think it’s the intestines anyway or they think that the bandage is bad enough and they’re still grossed out.” "
Lol, I always thought it was his intestines but I see now it's the bandage! Cheers for this.
@@RaefonB I thought the same when I first saw this movie but I later realised if it was his intestines, the sarge would have been screaming from the pain.
@@Spindler2007 Agreed. I used to think it was funny in an unrealistic way, tbf. :D
I think it was intestines and it always made me cringe, if I watch it again maybe I'll feel different cheers 😂
Glad you enjoyed this great British production - "I hope I give you the shits!" is one of the great lines of all time. 🙂
Cooper started the movie by saying he would not kill a dog for no reason... and he ended it by killing a werewolf because he had to save his life... GOOD GODS I love this movie.
Werewolf isn't a dog.
The takeaway is that he was saved by a dog from the guy that ordered him to shoot the original dog. He was kind to the animal and it made the difference in the end.
@@vinniedixon1140 they're big and floofy and bark, they're dogs.
In fact they're better than dogs because most of the time they clean up after themselves and feed themselves and don't shed anywhere near as much
@@crwydrynywerewolves don't bark. They're not dogs, they're lycans
@@rosita3528 But they're dogs, though.
@26:27
The single greatest line from any werewolf movie: "Fetch". 😂🤣
"They're not gunna fit!" 😂 always cracked me up! Sean Pertwee is a great actor and always brings a bit of humor
Thanks to Kat, I now focus on mundane things in horror movies and pronounce them as the real horror. “Hogging gum.” Love it!
"Chewing gum in line aye. I hope you brought enough for everybody."- Headley Lamar
Fun fact. The director Neil Marshall is from Newcastle in North East England, he directed Dog Soldiers which featured Liam Cunningham who went on to play Davos in Games of Thrones. Neil Marshall also directed numerous episodes of Game of Thrones. Liam Cunningham based Davos' accent on Liam Cunningham's Newcastle accent. The actor playing Spoon is also from the North East (Hartlepool) so you might notice some similarities between Spoon and Davos' accent if you aren't previous used to accents from that part of the world.
Oh so THAT was him.
What fun facts?
This was the last film I ever saw in a cinema with me, my misses, best friend and his misses. It holds a special place in my heart. It's a fantastic movie.
Another werewolf movie you should consider is "The Howling" (1981) with an ensemble cast. It has incredible makeup and practical effects.
Awesome flick!
Yeah, it's probably the #1 werewolf movie when it comes to creature design.
Agree, but us she ready yet?
Personally I think van helsing takes best werewolf design. Or maybe bad moon
@@kingsora6352 Agreed. "Bad Moon" design is my personal favourite, have a soft spot for that movie overall.
"Put the spaghetti back in the bowl." Best line ever😂
"Put the 🍝 back in the bowl!!!"
You're adorable Kat
This is by far my favourite werewolf movie , thank you for reacting to this great movie Kat
"ho ho ho ho ho, Sons of Gondor" had me actually lol
A great fun and seriously underrated little movie.
I can tell you that much of the banter between squaddies is spot on in tone and delivery too.
The *best* thing in the movie though is Sean Pertwee's campfire ghost story. It's a really courageous thing to do in the middle of what is basically "Zulu with Werewolves". Creepy, haunting and beautifully delivered. It's the part of the film that sticks with you.
Is this movie action packed?
I'd call it a horror action comedy.
Comedy may vary on your understanding of British culture though ;)
@@steffenwennerstrand8969
Sean Pertwee (the guy who blew up the house) was in another werewolf movie called "Howl".
Kevin McKidd (from Grey's anatomy) was in an older HBO show called Rome with Ray Stevenson. It was good! Only two seasons, IIRC. He also had a quickly-canceled series about time travel called Journeyman that I thought deserved more of a chance.
Rome was fantastic, and sadly canceled early, so they had to rush through two more seasons worth of stuff in the second half of the second season.
This movie is full of homages like the homage to "The Matrix" when Sgt. Wells picks up his wristwatch from the puddle of gore and says "The is no Spoon" and the fact that the Sgt.'s full name is Harry G. Wells as an homage to classic sci-fi auhor H.G. Wells.
And that ladies and gentleman is the absolutely best and most appropriate way to react to what is a damn fine movie.
I rented this movie blind from blockbuster 20 years ago, and it immediately became one of my all-time favorite movies. Sausages, lol.😂
- Sean Pertwee/Wells is my favourite character (Sean Pertwee is always fantastic), but Darren Morfitt/Spoon has the best line in the movie. "I hope I give you the sh*ts you f**ckin' wimp!"
- If you aren't aware, Neil Marshall wrote and directed this movie as well as The Descent which you've also seen and crapped your pants at!
Another British movie recommendation for you is Creep (2004). (not the American 2014 movie of the same name)
RIP, Spoon, he went out like a true G.
Indeed he did sir, indeed he did. 🫡
The director said "This isn't a werewolf movie with soldiers. It's a soldier movie with werewolves." That's why it feels more like a "surrounded and outnumbered" war movie than a standard horror movie. It even pays homage to "Zulu," one of the great "surrounded and outnumbered" war movies, when Spoon mentions Rorke's Drift, the 1879 battle that movie was based on.
Zulu was a very good movie.
Zulu is a great movie. Leaves a lasting impression. Need to dig that one up & watch it again. Tnanks.😊
"Balls of British steel."
"You're bloody loving this ain't ya?"
Now be quiet, there’s a good gentleman. We don’t want to upset the lads.
@@ballagh Yes! Another homage to "Zulu."
I always wait for Kat to tell me what the REAL horror of the movie is, so I know what to be scared of 😂
I will never forget the Hollywood Video employee that put Dog Soldiers in my hand.
I've seen this ten times over these 20-year lifespan and each time, I vote "Favorite Werewolf Movie". It's claustrophobic, too, so tension is almost a constant but I never get used to it.
15:38 The fact that you said "Sons of Gondor!" when the sword was shown makes me like you even more! I KNEW there was a reason I kept coming back! 😁
"GET THE SPAGHETTI BACK IN THE BOWL" 😂 hahaha That was pure gold Kat 👍 😆
"I hope nothing bad happens to any of them"
I'm sure they'll be fine.
I used to watch werewolf movies with my Dad who used to tell he fought werewolf’s when he was in Vietnam so as a scared little kid I knew my daddy would save me from them. Best memories. RIP Daddy I’m still watching them for you.
10:38 ..."Get the spaghetti back in the bowl!" I like your commentary, your facial expressions and how you whip your arms and hands about, tense and ready for a fight with the air during every horror movie that you hate! 🤣 New subber and your hilarious reactions inspire!
This reaction is so good I've almost watched it as many times as I've watched Dog Soldiers. Up to double figures as of today.
My number two werewolf movie right after The Howling (1981). The actors were just born for those kind of characters. Great cast. And very talented cinematography. Loved it as well, that the werewolf POV shots were black and white since canines don't see that well other than felines.
"Come an' have a go, if you think you're haaard enouuughh!" Spoon was my fave character, right along with Cooper and and the Sarge (Sean Pertwee) were so likeable. Such an easy shoe-in, for top 5 in the Werewolf genre.
two other werewolf classics to see - Silver Bullet (1985) and The Howling (1981)
I wish more people reacted to this movie
Yes!
Word!
Awesome reactions from Kat, to the incredible Dog Soldiers.
Everyone involved in the making of this movie are amazing, but Sean Pertwee's performance is absolutely on fire.
As far as I'm concerned this along with An American Werewolf in London are the two best werewolf movies of all time.
Can I also recommend that you add Quarantine (or the foreign language original REC) to your playlist. Would love to see you react to it, as it could be considered an entry in the zombie genre.
Definitely gonna jump on board and recommend REC as well, it's great.
@@WrathOfGrapesN7 I find some people who love REC seem to dislike Quarantine (the American remake). I like them both, possibly because I saw Quarantine first and then sought out REC.
@@originalrockhead don't get me wrong, Quarantine is okay, it's just that they almost made it shot-for-shot whilst leaving out the most interesting parts of the lore.
So pleased that you got to this Kat! It's an absolute favourite of mine and a hidden gem! I noticed for the first time during this re-watch that Megan has a distinctive scar on her upper right arm, it's properly on show at the clip 26:43 So cool that they had that detail in there for anyone who looked closely before the reveal.
"Put the spaghetti back in the bowl!" will be in my brain, forever.
I went to Loch Ness in the highlands of Scotland in summer 2022. It IS the most beautiful place on Earth. It also had one of the most beautiful.woman i ever seen in my life, the convierge of the cotage i was in, a brilliant, very intelligent, drop dead gorgeaus 1,80 meters tall blind highlander girl. I was utterly smithen by her. Then later 3 days later i met as tall redhead gorgeaus scottish lass from Islay in Edimburgh. Scottish lassies stuns me.
"So if Little Red Riding Hood should turn up with a bazooka and a bad attitude, I expect you to chin the b*$#&." I think that line was made to be delivered by Sean Pertwee and no one else.
This is legitimately one of my top 5 all time favourite movies. So glad you watched this one.
I definitely chimed in on recommending this one after American Werewolf in London, really glad to see I wasn't alone in championing it! Super glad you enjoyed it, in some ways I feel like this compares to "rule of cool" monster movies like From Dusk Til Dawn, where the movie logic pulls from myth and other movies whenever it feels it'll add to this story, and there's a lot of "go with it, we're leaving it vague on purpose".
Rewatching it, I'd forgotten how much of the humour comes from British "Lad" culture, especially football references ("They think it's all over...it is now!" is ingrained into our lexicon, purely from a fevered moment of match commentary replayed forever), but it all scans for these guys being squaddies. Beautiful stuff, and one of my favourite Sean Pertwee projects, he really gets to play around
You should absolutely watch Stephen King's Silver Bullet. It's a movie where Gary Busey is the voice of reason.
That's a sentence that you don't see every day.
Lmao facts
Favorite werewolf movie. Yes, even more than American werewolf in London.
The "squad leader" is Liam Cunningham. He's also in a film called Let Us Prey. Definitely worth a watch or ten.
LMAO "Get the spaghetti back in the bowl" is my new favorite Kat-ism
Yes!!!! New sub here. Awesome you're channel is for horror only. Super stoked. A great first watch of your reactions with many more to go!!
I hope you watch The Howling next, Kat! It came out the same year as An American Werewolf in London and is considered one of the greatest werewolf movies of all time. 😊
Put the spaghetti back in the bowl...lol.🍝🤣
Just saw this for the first time during Halloween and thought it's one of the best werewolf movie I ever seen. Just fantastic!
Dog Soldiers has some decent effects, a solid cast, and is on the whole a lot of fun.
I again recommend Bad Moon. Highly underrated 90s werewolf movie, based on a book.
Bad Moon is great
Steven Kings Silver Bullet is good too
@@shanelogan630 For sure. Kat would love it. RIP to Haim.
From the guy who brought you The Descent! Great choice and the best reaction channel on youtube! 😊
This is one of my favourite werewolf movies, at the top with American Werewolf in London. Just amazing!
Spoon most badass guy in a horror movie ever. Fist fight one on one with a werewolf and kicked it's ass until the other wolf snuck up from behind
Oh wow what a good movie choice! I haven't seen Dog Soldiers in years, and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about when I bring it up. Looking forward to this one :D
This is my favorite werewolf movie. Sean Pertwee is seriously underrated - he also played Smith in Event Horizon. Another werewolf movie I recommend, despite its complete hokiness which makes it more comedic than scary, in my opinion, is Bad Moon. It holds a special place in my heart because of a prank that my mom pulled on me and my sister when we were young in which she had a really tall friend wear a mask that was very similar to the werewolf in the movie and had him creep around her trailer scratching at the walls and pretending to grab our childhood friend, Ethan's, mom when she went to check that the back door of the trailer was latched. He let out quite a string of expletives when that happened. We were all terrified. The "werewolf/Dogman" then stood outside the window directly behind the couch until I saw him out of the corner of my eye and flinched. My sister saw I was staring at something, turned to see what appeared to be the very same face we had just seen in the movie then she screamed and cried. My mom even had the local radio station play into it by emphasizing the Michigan legend of Dogman before her friend put on his performance. She was such a prankster and I miss her dearly.
I also enjoyed Wolf (with Nicholson, Spader and Pfeiffer) and Ginger Snaps.
Wolf is a good one. James Spader is another actor who doesn't receive enough love for his brilliance. I haven't seen Ginger Snaps. I'll have to look into that one.
Love Bad Moon. Wildly underrated, but it's great for such a small cast.
@@Crite_Wrangler Ginger Snaps really reframes lycanthropy in an interesting way. Definitely worth a watch. And yes, James Spader is an excellent actor who should be more beloved.
Thank you so much for reacting to this film. My late cousin Tom Lockyer is in this film, he plays Bruce, the soldier with the radio who was impaled on the tree branch early on. I love that he was in this incredible, brilliant film. A great legacy for him. It’s just SO good❤️
He did a first rate job in this film. Such a great cast. I remember him as Jacob in Ultraviolet. He was great in that too. 👍
Chills up the spine every time I watch this movie just before the cow drops. when Sergeant Wells is telling the story about Eddie and the tattoo.
Also when Wells asked to be punched, one of the punches actually accidentally connected when filming haha...the actor for Sergeant Wells was 100% drunk for the scene as well!
Best thing about this film, the writers obviously knew a few squaddies because their portrayal of how british squaddies act is spot on, right down to the corny jokes
Also that they are supposedly on a hide and seek mission and yet they are walking nonchalantly whilst whistling loudly.
Best time of the week!! ❤
I love this movie. Ser Davos looks so young. Also, Sean Pertwee is the son of Jon Pertwee, the third Doctor in Doctor Who.
Best movie reactions on CZcams. As a big horror buff I have enjoyed these immensely!
I love this film. Possibly the best British horror film for years. I hope you can watch more British horror films in the future 😊.
"Put the spaghetti back in the bowl!!!" Katch phrase of the week. 😂
Silver Bullet and Howl should be on your list for werewolf movies. An American Werewolf in Paris has a lot of charm as well.
Anything but an "American Werewolf in Paris ." Anything 😝
@@JohnDAmico-ci2hz it's campy as hell and I love it.
A real bonding movie for me and my son. Never gets old.
"Sausages!" favorite line in the movie : )
Need to watch "The Howling", "Bad Moon", "Silver Bullet" and "Wolfen" to complete best werewolf movie genre.
my guilty pleasure is 'the howling: reborn' 2011 but never forget 'american werewolf in london'
Definitely add "Wolfen" which most people don't even know exists. Excellent cast, tight script, great special FX and scares. Perfect movie for Kat.
Dunno if it's the _best_ but I might argue it's the most _fun_ - bonkers B-movie madness which knows exactly what it is and leans into it with wit and style.
Saw this at the cinema and Spoon's fight topped with the perfect button (just a couple of years post Matrix) of "There is no Spoon" was worth the price of admission by itself :).
Im glad i found that channel. Youre fun😂
Spoon is such a badass.
I remember renting this movie on a whim. Turned out to be a great movie. Wasn't a popular movie back when it came out. However everyone I showed it to, found it to be an entertaining movie.
Unfortunately it's a hard movie to find these days.
My favorite werewolf movie, from the director of another great movie you reacted to (The Descent). They found the original camera negative, and Shout Factory released an excellent 4K/Blu-ray combo pack. You know, for those of us nerds who are interested...
East Texas here. Piney Woods area near Saratoga, Texas and the infamous Saratoga ghost lights… we have these werewolf looking creatures roaming around our woods. I have seen one directly at about 30 feet away for a couple of minutes, definitely huge, hatred coming off it pores, and red eyes weirdly. The old timers that live here talk about these creatures along with those called Bigfoot. A weird place to live and hunt. We have plenty of UfO activity as well.
Get the spaghetti back in the bowl had me dying lol 😂😂😂
I just wanted to put a thought in your head. I’ve been watching several of your reactions lately and enjoying them a lot.
It recently came to my attention that one of the greatest horror movies of my high school years was actually directed by Peter Jackson, the mastermind behind the
Lord of the Rings movies. Before he got that big, he actually did several horror movies, and you can feel his genius at work in them. The specific one I’m talking about here is Dead Alive. Not many reactors have covered it, sadly, because it deserves more recognition. Put that somewhere on your list of must-sees.
It's actual title is Braindead. I'm guessing you're from America because they always change movie titles over there for some reason. Might be because there was already a film called Braindead in America.
Yes, I only recently learned that. Also, I wasn’t sure if Peter Jackson filmed it for a British studio or a Hollywood one. We used to watch it on Halloween during classmate parties, but it’s actually been a good 20 years since I’ve seen it.
I remember seeing this when it came out.
Went in thinking "Oh this is prolly gonna be another low effort trash things" (cause horror films were in a really bad state during that time) and I was so happy to be proven wrong.
It's a brilliant werewolf film :)
I was working 3rd shift, and wanted to bring a movie in to watch at work, checked the video rental section of the service station after getting gas and rented this VHS on a whim. It didn’t disappoint. Such a great original werewolf movie. The YT channel GoodBadFlick did a real good video covering the making of this movie. It’s interesting and worth watching. Great reaction as always Kat.
I'm ex British army and this was one of best performances of actors portraying British soldiers I've ever seen, the banter, the language, sweet yet horrible memories 😂
Ah yes. British Predator.
A werewolf movie is perfect for Kat since she always has such biting wit.🙂
''Oh darn it! That's so much insides that should be inside!'' HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
This is such a fun and well-made movie, I'm glad you liked it too! I always enjoy with your comments and reactions, have a nice week Kat!
An American Werewolf in London is the best Werewolf movie. But I'd rank Dog Soliders second, amazing movie
I rank these two werewolf movies the same
Some kids wanted to be cops and firefighters, as a kid American Werewolf in London made me what to be a practical effects makeup artist.
Still the gold standard
Since you have reacted to this gem of a movie, I have SUBSCRIBED!
Kat's growl at 8:44... CUTEST THING EVER!!!
Cooper "get in the wardrobe " Absolute classic film.
Seen it countless times never disappointed once.
Great characters as well!!
I had a signed DVD on the front cover by the director Neil Marshall who is from the North East of England like myself as are the characters Spoon and Joe. This film is basically Predator with werewolves. Cooper was ordered to shoot the dog not kill it so he could've just injured the dog if he'd thought clever enough.
I cannot wait to see the look on Kat's face when she sees When Evil Lurks.
Spoon was a G. Fought like a G. Went out like a G
He's not just the guy from Grey's Anatomy, he's frigging Lucius Vorenus from the TV show Rome ROME. Thirteen!!
