    A good way to remove tint, is to saturate the window with an ammonia spray and then cover with a plastic garbage bag (since the window would be wet, the garbage bag will "stick" to the window..) and let sit in the sun for 20-30 mins. The tint comes off much easier. I've done this exact method on 2 cars and it cut the tedious time down of scraping and peeling. Just be careful working with ammonia....shit stinks.

    From my experience working on a Ferrari Testarossa that has Stage 1 Paint, I was able to polish it and honestly it is a lot easier to polish than cars with a real clear coat. 1 way to tell if your paint is a Stage 1 paint job is that the paint color will start to rub off onto the polishing pad. Since the 240SX is blue, your paint would turn blue, if it was a stage 1 paint job. Other than that the deep scratches should come out if wet sanded. I recommend starting with 2000 grit and if you're able to see them, then go 1500, 1000, as needed. You don't want to run the risk of sanding away too much paint without a paint gauge reader.

    Pro tip for window tint removal. Mist with pure ammonia... Tape a trash bag over the tint to make an "oven" over just the glass and tint...place in direct sun for an hour or more to bake. Peel off tint like butter and wipe any leftover goo with more ammonia. BAM...no more tint! 🤘

  • @robsgarage340
    @robsgarage340 Před 5 lety

    Get some wool pads to “cut” into the paint when using compound and polishing pads for the polish. Yes you can wet sand and buff single stage paint and clear coats. You should try using 2000, 2500 grit sand paper or better yet Trizact 3000 sanding disc as it sands out fine scratches and its whole lot easier to buff out.

    (As someone who does this for a living) Calvin’s technique wasn’t bad. But the ultimate polish is not nearly strong enough. I wouldn’t advise using a strong compound on this paint without being fully equipped to handle it. But with a better pad (like meg’s polishing/finishing pad) and m205, he would get the results he wants. Good on ya boys for doing it on your own.
    (I say meguiars products bc he uses them)

    I learned from a tint guy here in Texas that Formula 409 is the best for removing tint. You can use a razor blade to help with removal on glass without defrost in it. But on rear glass with defrost be very careful. Even without a razor you can destroy your defrost from just pulling on the tint. So try to soak the glue and get it behind the tint

  • @TimothyFHW
    @TimothyFHW Před 5 lety

    iWorking in a tinting shop, ive picked up some moves on how to easily take tint off of windows as i do it every day. Top #1, dont use heat!!! heat makes it stick more, what you want to do is take some soapy water and a razor blade and just sorta peel it off, once you've peeled off a corner, just spray a bunch of soapy water inside and under the tint and just slowly peel it off. to remove the gross glue shit off of it, pray it down with the same water and just scrape it away with a new razor blade and it'll come off so easily. Back windows are difficult to tint as you need to shrink them to get them to conform to the shape of the window. I suggest going to a tinting shop and learning how to do that and it'll make life so much easier for you. Finally, before applying the tint, make sure the window is spotless, any little bit of dust will show and its no fun. I would love to video chat with you and show you a little bit on how to clean and tint windows properly!

    Great video guys.
    Your 240 does have a clear coat.
    If it had been single stage paint, that buffer you were using would have been blue as blue can be.
    I believe Nissan/Datsun has been clear coating all their cars & trucks, all the way back into the 70's.
    You still have to be just as careful though, when you are dealing with base coat /clear coat paint job.
    Car makers do not put that much clear on a car.
    You really have to be careful and go slow. Using the Meguiars products that you were using was the perfect choice for the job. In their Ultimate series of products, they use a fine synthetic grit that disappears as it's being used. Way safer for your paint and doesn't cut fast. It's not as gritty, nor as dangerous as the rougher compounds can be.
    I did a 3000 grit wetsand with a small squeegee on my deeper scratches on my Nissan.
    I was able to get most of them out.
    Then I used all of the same products that you used, except for the buffer.
    I chose to use a Meguiars DA polisher.
    It's a lot of work no doubt. I finished up with a nice hand waxed coat of Meguiars ULTIMATE Pure Synthetic Polymer Wax. My paint looks like a mirror. The paint looks wet and deep. People ask me all the time if I have a custom paint job on my car... LOL
    Maintenance is a breeze as well, with Meguiars Synthetic Polymer detail spray.
    All I usually have to do is dust my car everyday. I don't wash it often and I just use the spray when it needs it.
    No I don't work for Meguiars. I do love their products though. They have three different lines now. I choose to use the ULTIMATE pure synthetic polymer line of products.
    That's all you guys will have to do with this 240. If you're going to leave it sitting out all the time. Go out and buy yourself a genuine California duster( not those cheap lookalikes) and just dust the car off. It will always look nice. I bought a triangular shaped small duster, that's advertised for your dash and I use that on my wheels. Keep it dusted...lol
    Keep given out the great advice and video's.

    Judging by the swirling, you need to use a microfiber cutting pad when you use the M205 compound, the foam pad isn’t aggressive enough. Still looks a lot better tho. And if the paint is single stage, you need to test it with a paint depth gauge to make sure you dont take too much off. Single stage has the color and clear in one coat, saves time during manufacturing for companies like Nissan that pump out a ton of cars.

The best Method on the back window is to take spray on glue and cut out the shape of the window with a black garbage bag spray the glue on the inside of the window and place the garbage bag there as well. Park it out in the Sun for A-day or 2 and slowly peel back on the bag. It will then take it off.👍

    Use a steamer and a blade for the tint. Use the steamer and go back and forth on the tint and make sure the whole tint area is wet, then get a corner of the tint and start to peel it up. Once it rips or it all comes off, heat up the window with the steamer again and use the blade flat against the glass and slide it across the back and forth until the tint is gone. the steam will heat the glue behind the tint and cause it to separate from the glass, and the blade will get underneath the edges of the tint that you cant get your finger underneath
