    Please note that some cheaper ESP32 boards can have a mislabeled GND pin next to the 5V pin. It's mislabeled because it's actually 3.3V out, not GND. Happened to me personally on a couple of boards.

      Hey man, I have an issue here. I have connected my ws2812b led strip properly according to the pins. I see that only 1led or about only 4 turn on with a different colour (usually green) turns on in the end. If its only one, then only the first led turns on to white. I'm pretty confused on what the problem is. Could you help me?

    • @J0ermungand
      @J0ermungand Před 7 měsíci

      @@DaleDix irrelevant, since on some boards that GND labeled pin next to the 5V IN is actually 3v3. It's a manufacturing flaw. Hence why I said "mislabeled".

    When soldering the INMP411, it is good to put just a tiny piece of tape on top of the mic hole to protect it from any unfortunate solder splashes or flux if you are using flux core solder.

    Hey Chris, I have found this mic isn't as reactive as yours, unless I've killed it in the soldering process. I really have to make a loud sound close up for it to register. When I touch the L/R pin it lights up into action as I must be earthing it out somewhere.
    I have plugged the LED Music Controller SP107E and it's far more responsive. Obviously I have less control using the LED Chord app. Is this something you've come accross at all and can offer me some advice?

    Hey Chris, thanks for the great and easy-to-follow tutorial. One question that I am a little confused about: the strip that I'm powering is a 24v FCOB, and I have the appropriate 24v power supply to go with it. I have the ESP32 board with the mic set up exactly as you show in your video, but I have a feeling that this isn't how it should be if I'm using a 24v power supply. Can you please help me understand how I need to change my setup for this scenario? Would I take off the red jumper cable that's connected to the VIN pin on the ESP32 board? What else?

    WLED is one of the best addressable LED control software (or firmware?) out there. It still runs really well even on the older ESP8266 chips. I also like that, with a little playing, you can link multiple WLED devices together so they work like one unit together.
    Usually, if you need to press a "boot" button when flashing, you need to just press it for a second at the exact same time as you start your firmware upload

It only works on the computer not the phone, and by what I understand it uses the UDP realtime which WLEDs have, but I got really impressive results. There was a bit of stuttering on WiFi, but I got a really impressive like 30fps from my testing when connected directly to the WLED-AP, no stuttering whatsoever. Another interesting video Chris, I had tried using SR based on your older video and for whatever reason, could not get it to work with the Max4866 mic.
    In this video the ESP32 device that you linked to here is different then the one you had noted in other videos (Dorhea,) will the previous version of the ESP32 chip that you had been linking, (Teyleten Robot), so would the previous ESP32 work as this one does for this setup with the Mic you specified in this video (INMP441)? They do look virtually identical and is a 30 pin like the Teyleten.
    Would not mind trying SR Again off this is a more reliable config and works as expected with the Teyleten version of the ESP32. You'd think it would, but you never know for sure till someone tries it... Thanks for any thoughts

      Thanks so much for watching! When I was testing things out with this new setup, I did use the Max4866 mics and those were one of the ones that after saving and rebooting, I did have to unplug and plug the power source back in 1 or 2 times before the mic started working. Not sure why but it worked just fine after!
      Great attention to detail on the esp32 that I used! They look the exact same and after trying them out, they do seem to be the exact same. The reason why I ordered those instead of the Teyleton ones was because the ones from Dorhea said they would arrive the next day and the ones from Teyleten said they would arrive in 2 days. Lol that's the only reason. Either one should work perfect since after getting the new ones, they look like the exact same thing.

    • @vex9596
      @vex9596 Před rokem +1

      There is no need to use a second ESP board, but it's recommended to use a level shifter (basically, a component that boosts the data). While this is recommended in all cases, it's particularly important when the data/signal wires that are connecting to the LED strip are long. If the control board is close, there's no need for one in 99% cases.
      I'd only use a 2nd board if I wanted everything to look neat, as I wouldn't have to bother with hiding long cables.. but then I'd also have to use 2 power supplies.

  • @16klu
    @16klu Před rokem +1

    In the Settings > LED preferences > Length you put number of LEDs on the strip. Since you have 2 strips and data channel split, should the number reflect one strip or both? Let's say you have 2x 1m 60leds per m strip, so you put value of 60 there or 120?
    And what if you have 2 strips on 1 data channel, but they are different length? One longer and one shorter?

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  Před rokem +2

      Thanks so much for watching and great question! If the data is split you just put the number of leds of the one strip so in your example you would just put 60. And if your splitting the data, you more than likely would want to keep the strips the exact same since there would be no way to set the strips to a different length doing it this way. If you set the leds to the shorter strips length then the leds on the longer strip past the input value will do nothing. If you set it for the longer strips led length, then on the shorter strip after the animation is done, it will go dark for a second while it thinks there are more leds on the strip to complete. Hope that makes sense!

    hi. Chris! That is, indeed, a good sound-active mode and isn't "noisy" or distracting. LOVE IT.
    Do you know if anyone has ever hard-wired DMX into one of these boards, so that DMX values on given channels can be used to choose from 1-255 given animations, set the look, speed, colour pallete, and/or other attributes of each animation? Or even enable sound mode, and how much it applies to each animation? This sort of thing would need to be incorporated into the code of WLED, I'm thinking.. so that it knows what to do with the data it gets, and what to apply it to, right?

    • @TheNigaHigaFan4Ever
      @TheNigaHigaFan4Ever Před 7 měsíci

      This i coming straight of the WLed site
      ESP32
      There is a maximum of 10 strips supported on "classic" ESP32 (dual core) boards. In audioreactive builds, you can use up to 9, because the audio input driver needs one of the hardware units that is normally available for driving LEDs.
      "classic" ESP32: 10 led strips (9 with audioreactive)
      ESP32-S3: 4 led strips
      ESP32-S2: 5 led strips (4 with audioreactive)
      ESP32-C3: 2 led strips
      Contrary to the ESP8266, the pin usage does not matter on ESP32, feel free to use any available pin
      For perfect performance, it is recommeded to use 512 LEDs/pin with 4 outputs for a total of 2048 LEDs.
      For very good performance, it is recommended to use 800 LEDs/pin with 4 outputs for a total of 3200 LEDs.
      For good performance, you can use 1000 LEDs/pin with 4 outputs for a total of 4000 LEDs.
      For okay performance, you can use 1000 LEDs/pin with 5 outputs for a total of 5000 LEDs.
      For okay performance, you can use 800 LEDs/pin with 6 outputs for a total of 4800 LEDs.
      ESP32 can calculate about 65k-85k LEDs per second (that means 1000 LEDs @~70fps, 2000 LEDs @~35fps, 4000 LEDs @~18fps)
      4 outputs seem to be the sweet spot.
      soo it depends how many led/m your led strips are. if its more than 1000 Leds/strip id recommend going with 2 ESP's else 1 will work just fine
