Tech guy who just wanted tech info: Thanks for the video; super nice and informative; and the message at the end came off genuine, not preachy or distracting from the topic.
Thank you for the video. I have ordered the Strip, Decoder and power supply. I can't wait to do the project.
It’s a lot of fun to see it all come together. God bless
I just discovered this video. Thank you. You literally gave me hope to continue to discover my passion of becoming a lighting DJ. 😃 I have a number of DMX compatible lights , and a standard 192 controller, ( but I need a 32 channel over the 16, due to my expensive chauvet gigbar2, to master full control). But I REALLY wanted to have an 8 strip display to play around with. And that is how I discovered your channel.
I have done a number of DJ gigs , and I discovered that good lighting with music makes the crowd happy.... And we all need more of that in this world!
Gosh, I ramble don't I? Just thank you and God Bless.
you all probably dont care at all but does anyone know a tool to get back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot my login password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
@Louis Davian instablaster :)
@Hugo Ryland i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Hugo Ryland It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my account !
@Louis Davian you are welcome :D
Awesome videos brother, thank you so much for all the tips!
Super helpful! Are the channels pre set in the decoder or did your software determine the function of the channel? Basically what I'm asking is, are channels 1-4 always going to be red, green, blue, white or did your software do that? I'd like to know if I'd be able to accomplish the same result with a standard hardware controller or my USB to dmx interface that is controller by my DAW.
Clean recording, audio, camera stills and close... Everyone one the planet should follow your technique before making a video. "Extremely Perfect" wow!
Thanks so much! Means a lot
@@WorshipLeaderHangout It was really perfect. Thanks for the work and his work as well.
grazie per il vostro lavoro siete di grande ispirazione
Where can one find a spool of that wire you are using here at 3:37?
Hello, thank you for this vid. How would it be different if you would use a setup with ADDRESSABLE LED's?
Cool video! Very helpful
I'm only using one side (rgbw strips), so I still need to wire to both inputs from my power supply or will one input work? Thanks a lot!
Thanks for your video! I do have a question of how to control Each LED with my console? what dmx decoder should I get?
Your videos are helpful to us.
Can we connect vintage bulbs to dmx decoder
If I was to connect two 16.6 RGBW tapes to make one long tape to run the length of my stage, would I need a 24 v power supply or will a 12v power supply that you have listed work?
Did you use the cool white or warm white version of the LED strip? I'm assuming the cool white, but the link sends to the warm white option.
How you connect the DMX box to the main control box when you have more than 1 strip going into the DMX box. Thank you so much for all your ideas. I have been using your videos and stage designe for the past 2 years at my church.
question, if the strips flickers at the same time and sudenly changes color if its supposed to be on just ine color, does that mean decoder going bad?
can i use this 32channel decorder for say 4 led strips and 4 fixtures hung on my truss? or do I need to get a dmx splitter?
Hi,
Thanks for your video !!!
Just one question : Can I replace the strips by single leds (5 or 10W) ? 🙏
Is it one power box per decoder, or can I wire more decoders into the same power box?
Thank you brother
Thanks for the video! Can you confirm something for me? Is it one power supply per decoder? And with those two devices you can run eight separate LED strips? I saw a parts list from a church with two decoders and multiple power supplies and I can't figure out why. Thanks!
Can the 16 ft led strip be cut in smaller strips and then connected again?
Greetings from Italy!! Thank you for this video.. I just finished to mount the system but I’m having a problem with the stripes.. when I use some colour, they make noise.. What can I do? It’s very bad!! Thank you guys
What gauge wire did you use for connecting the strips to the decoder?
Hi, good video! Do you know how to conect 3 ambilight systems to the computer? each one have a USB port.
Can you get multiple colors from the different outputs on that one controller?
I just bought nine 16ft govee led strip. I'm new to the led community these strips added up to 216 Watts is it possible to connect all 9 strip together with one 350 Watts power supply or do I need more than one power supply? I have a 144ft of ceiling to run these led lights Thanks.
Does it matter which rgb led strip you use, or are matirx or lepro led ok? Which led's did you use for this video?
If I want to have a chase/waterfall effect will it depend on the dmx controller having that particular addressable function as an option or will it depend on the chip built into the LED or pixel strip? Or do both the strip and the decoder need to have that function for me to make this happen? Thank you! (I’ll be running all of my lights through a computer with a lighting interface)
im wondering the same thing but yet theres no answered..
Have you have come across the 32 channel decoder only working on one side? I try to connect power to the second side and it just powers off. Do you have any ideas why?
I have the 32 Channel 96A RGBW DMX 512 LED Decoder Controller DMX Dimmer DC5-24V RGBW RGB LED Light 8 Bit/16 Bit
and the MENZO 12v 30a Dc Universal Regulated Switching Power Supply.
Hey Chad, Do you know if the decoder you use works with Madmapper? Thanks again and love the videos
yes, it works
Is there a way to connect the Dmx decoder wirelessly to your control program?
Does this work with addressable LED is it? Does it work along with WLED. Like the idea that it works with eight separate strips of LEDs.
you're connecting it to the pc with a dmx to usb controller? or does it need a dmx master in order to connect it to the pc?
Would it be possible to use this on an 8-16 channel dimmer console? How would I do that if possible?
Good afternoon. I was trying this DMX512 32ch Decoder with the LTECH DX8 Wall Mounted RGBW Controller and I couldn't control the lights. Any help with this?
What type of 5-prong cable are you using? can i use one of 4? And is this a special signal cable or something like that?
can you make one section of srtip blue and another section yellow? Or is it just 1 collour for the whole strip ?
great video! good explanations...i am absolutely laughing at you mentioning 96 channels is a lot though, lol....thats like 2-3 moving heads, not even with some of them....
Does it have to be copper wire from power supply to input
hi. I am trying to figure out how to connect our house lights to dmx... have you done this?
There is 2 0-10v wire going to a dimmer switch on the wall.. I want to connect that to the box and them to dmx via lightly. any ideas? house lights are white only..no RGB. and yes only 2 dimmer wires coming off them. thanks!
I will try this
Hello, please advise I have this decoder but not working with the DMX mixer how to make this work
can somebody help me on which power supply you need / how to calculate that? i would want close to 20m of ledstrip, 4 "groups", so 5 meters each. a strip i found for example uses 5A / 12V = 60W per 5 meters. i would probably use two 8channel decoders, but do i need a 10A 12V 12W power supply each then? thanks very much in advance
Can You use that controller to run 3w and 5w leds? aprox 100 of them?
Have you tried with an Individually addressable Led Strip?
Please help brothers, can I set different colors to each output of the decoder? Thanks for the help
How did you conect decoder with PC? Do I need dmx console or I can control with pc? Thanks
hello
i need your help.
i have the same DMX512 DECODER 32 channel with 8outs of RGBW+V where am connecting the strips. on this Decoder can i connect a led strip that is
WS2812B DC5V LED Strip RGB 1M 144 Pixels Smart Addressable Black PCB WS2812 IC Full Color ?
will it work?
thank you
If you ran 8 separate LED's out of that one DMX decoder, would you have control over each fixture separately?
Are all the channels individually dmx addressed
Great l like it
Thanks for posting this video. I have followed all the instructions step by step and when I connect to DMX the only color I can get is red. Ever had this experience before?
i’m experiencing the same issue
First off - thanks so much for this really informative video. It is inspiring me to think about adding some lighting strip features at my church, and I want to be sure I use compatible components.
Now I noticed that your preferred LED strips are 24V, but the "second option" LED strips are rated at only 12V.
Now the DMX decoder will handle anywhere from 5-24V, and I think the DMX decoder will use whatever input voltage you give it. You connected it to a 12V power supply.
* Have you had any issues using the prescribed 12V P/S to power the prescribed (first option) 24V LED strips? If the converter's output to the LEDs is only 12V, wouldn't the LEDs give off less light, at only half their rated voltage?
* Or; if the decoder's output to the LEDs is actually 24V, then would using the "second option" (12V) LED strips risk overheating or blowing out all the LEDs?
Is this safe?
Did I miss something somewhere along the line?
Are LED strips rated at 12V/24V really all that interchangeable?
If not, what would you change in the rest of the configuration if someone has already purchased a boatload of 12V LED strips?
Thanks!
Question? Do you need that software and board to run and turn on the lights ?
Any DMX software should work. This is just what we use.
Would this be the same process if I wanted to use a dmx controller to control an rgb flood light
more or less... most rgb floodlights already take DMX input so the decoder is integrated. The power supply is also most likely integrated.
Great video. Super helpful. I was able to use these inside of my drums cage to light up our drummer and drum set.
I am having an issue doing this. The lights work but every few seconds they flicker. Any suggestions?
Could be a power issue. Be sure you are getting consistent power output from your power supply. I had the same issue but I was using a smaller power supply. Haven’t had any flickering issues after using these.
Hey, did you ever find a solution? I’m having the same problem still using the larger power supply.
@@colbygriner1204 I am also having the same issue. It is very strange behavior though, if I run more than one strip at full brightness, then I can fade on of them up and down with no flickering. If I put 6 strips at full brightness then I can fade up to three of them at a time with no flickering. If I just try to fade one strip (when no other strips are on) then the lights flicker.
Alright bro. I’ve done everything this video says…lights work, but when I try and change color, the colors won’t change to correct color. I chose a generic RGBW 8b LED fixture. I’ve tested all of the colors on the DMX Decoder and it all works great. What am I doing wrong???
Would this DMX512 console work to control my lighting?
CO-Z 192 DMX 512 Stage DJ Light Controller Lighting Party Pub Night Club DJ KTV Moving Heads. found it on amazon
Hemet Assembly hey, I’m Nick! I’m a professional lighting director and programmer. I’ve used that console before. It’s really cheap for a lighting console, but if your light rig is pretty simple, I think it could get the job done. But if you have multiple fixture types, I’d recommend a different console like Obsidian Onyx (formerly Martin’s M-PC). It’s relatively inexpensive, but it’s a pro console, and it’ll stay with you through every stage of your light rig. Also, if you don’t believe me, these guys use that console for their church. 😉
The RGBW LED strips that you recommend in the video are 16.4 ft....we need something that is 18.5 ft.
Do you have recommendations on how we can achieve this or is it possible to cut LED strips so that I can use the 16.4 ft from this strip and add another piece of 2.1 ft to make one continuous strip with the same strip?
Thanks. Your videos have really helped us in our churches transformation journey
Figured out how to connect custom length RGBW LED strips together. However in my use case, I need to use 2 separate LED strips around our stage design which must be DMX controllable. These separate LED strips must be producing different colors from the computer via DMX. Does that mean that I would need 2 separate power supplies and 2 separate DMX decoders? i.e One LED strip shows Green and the other strip shows White.
Also the DMX decoder that you recommended is not available in Canada. Are there any alternatives to that DMX converter that I can use with the same specs that you mentioned? What spec DMX converter specs are we looking at? Do we need 32 channels, 24V, 96 A?
Thank you so much. Keep up the good work and God Bless!
Hi Chad. We have a lot of RGB led strips. Will this work without using white or do you recommend purchasing RGBW. Low budget 🤷♂️
it works with rgb just fine, it supports multiple led tape types (rgb, rgbw) also like solid white with a dimmer feature
Is there a automatic led music sync controler/decoder like the ViVi 2 (visual vibes) which has unfortunately gone out of business?
can that controller control each of the 8 LED strips individually or only all as one?
It's all about the amps. Read first.
Is it possible to use WS2812b LED strip with DMX and still program it pixel by pixel?
Not on this decoder you will need a different decoder as addressable leds use video mapping rather than dmx channels
Will this decoder run 2811 pixels?
I just purchased this decoder with a 1000w 100amp power supply and i am getting some real weird fading flickering whenever I have only one channel on at a time
Thank you for the great tips and information! I tend to find myself looking at your videos when I'm designing shows. Great work!
I do have one question though. Where did you find that jacketed wire used to connect the power source and the decoder? What is the name of that wire? I would love to get some!
It’s jacketed sprinkler wire from lowes. You can get them by the roll.
18/5 Solid Jacketed Sprinkler Wire (By-the-Foot) www.lowes.com/pd/Southwire-18-5-Jacketed-Sprinkler-Wire-By-the-Foot/50148248
What is the reason for selecting 8 bit vs 16? wouldn't 16 give you more even dimming? Thanks
Colin Entner yes, 16 bit doubles the channel count, but for things like generic RGB+ fixtures, it’s kinda redundant. R + G + B = 3 channels.
Received all my goods and got it working with my controller but only on OUT 1. How do you assign OUT 2 and so on on the Decoder. The instruction booklet that comes with it is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.
Hi can you make a video on how to connect DMX2112 TO a spectrum 097? Thank you i very complicated 🙂
I can’t find the black strips on Amazon, even with your link from the old video where you mentioned the black ones. Are they discontinued, or just not available right now? Or am I totally missing something?
They could be out of stock 😕. Try seeing if that listing has a color option tab.
consider looking at Chinese manufacturer offers: same product, way cheaper, often labeled way better. Im sure you can find a RGBW 12V 5050 LED strip just about anywhere. Chinese sites often list the power output per meter or per LED.
How many power boxes do I need if I’m gonna use around 200 ft of led strip ?
yeah how do you calculate which powersupply you need?
So I noticed that you are using a 12v power supply into a 24v DMX decoder, into 12v led strips? I'm using the same setup and having control issues (lights flickering and as I increase the intensity of the strip it gets worse) I'm wondering if I'm just going to long on my strip (16f) or if the voltage discrepancy is the issue.
I also am having this same issue. Any fix that worked for you by chance?
Great video, if you don’t use the entire strip and cut it, can you still use the excess piece that you cut ? If so how do you wire ?
Yes. It’s basically a wiring harness clamp. Four or five pin depending on what LED tape you have. You can find them on amazon. Just be sure to cut the strip in the indicated areas on the tape. The cut spot is also where you clamp the wires.
Hello! Great video! You didn't link the black cable that you used to connect the power supply to the decoder. Can you tell me what that cable is or link it?
It’s a standard 3 prong computer power cable. I just cut the end (computer side) then wire to the power supply.
How did you connect the DMX module to your board? Did you go DMX out to the board, and then DMX out from the board to the in of end encoder? What if we've got an older light board with just a DMX out on it?
That’s exactly right. DMX from your lighting board or interface to the decoder.
In your other video of LED tape with the smaller DmX decoder, you did not use a power box and plugged the decoder into wall using power. When is it necessary to have this power supply?
Can u put two 16ft led light strips together to make one channel.
Yes totally, depending on how the encoder works it may start to get dimmer if you go too long, but our stage at the moment is using about 18ft per Aquarian’s and they are still full brightness (however seperate 4-channel controllers)
I don't see the jacketed wire in the description
why do you keep cutting the cable on the leds? i would think you'd put a coupler on the DMX side so you can plug/unplug the LED's vs screwing them down all the time
Is this something we could use for a back wall wash? Our church has a lower ceiling so from the stage floor to the top of where coverage is needed would be like 9ft.
It may be but you might need to use multiple strips. They are cheap enough that you could buy one and test it before you put a lot of money into it.
@@WorshipLeaderHangout one more question: will using a 24v power supply give me more brightness on a single strip, or will it just allow me to chain multiple together without loosing brightness (or both maybe)?
@@willtraynor did you figure this out. I am wanting to put two 16.4' tapes together to run the length of my stage. I don't know if the 12v power supply will handle or do I need 24v.
I ended up running two 12 v tapes together with a connector. You could notice the tape close to the power supply was brighter than the end at the second strip. I would recommend 24v tape , make sure you get a 24v power supply
Does anyone know if these can be patched using Lightkey?
I have the onynx software and I can't get it to work for my lights. How do I turn the lights on with the onynx software
Could you tell us how u connected the decoder to the dmx
Usually those decoders have a 5-pin or 3-pin XLR connector to get DMX into it straight from the desk.
hi blessings, I wanted to know if that controller works for me to control Cold LED tubes (not RGB)
You can get single channel decoders, or you could use this one if you wanted to go to rob one day, and just use one channel on each module.
Wouldn't say that the M2PC is discontinued. Certainly they don't manufacture them anymore but you can by what's nearly the exact same device as the NX Wing, which only has a few very minor differences.
The actual M2PC works absolutely fine with Obsidian Onyx and is a proper onyx license unlocking all 128 universes.
Very true. Thanks Thomas
Why do you connect so many power source (4) for the decoder while you test only 1 light strip?
I have a problem with my decoder that it doesn't turn the light on.
I have the same question. I connected only 1 pair of V+ and V- but that doesn't even drive the display. The only thing I can think of is that due to the amount of current that the Decoder needs, they want to make sure that the overall diameter of the power cables is sufficient. But who knows for sure? And in the manual, they actually show 4 different power supplys with 4 wall plugs. confusing...
This seems complicated. It's wierd they don't have a cord that will plug them into the wall.
Why the reupload? I hoped you fixed the elctrical issues I stated under the first upload, but it doesn't look any different or does it?
I’ll let you figure it out. 😉
does ws2815 led work with 512 dmx decoder? does anybody know?
Could you tell me which 5 color wire you are using where I get it?
I did some research and found that it is sprinkler wire 18/5 and you can find it pretty inexpensively at Lowe's or Home Depot.
@@AndrewBernardez esto te funcionó correcta mente ?
Thank you for putting the apple sticker on your power supply ''in apple we trust''
where ypu put the terminator?
Hey chad..why dont you have a touch screen for the DMX or use the console to patch..its way faster
Did you ever have any issues when plugging into the other side of the decoder? When I connect a light strip to the other side of the decoder it stops working.
We have no experienced that issue. Double check your power and wiring from your power source. I’m sorry it’s giving you trouble. I know that’s frustrating.
We are having the same problem, did you ever figure it out?
Why 2 each 12v+ and 12v- wires to decoder? thanks!
(This reply not from WLH)
Actually, the video host used two cables, so there were a total of four conductors each for V+ and V- between the power supply and the decoder.
The DMX decoder box calls these 24V power inputs DC1+/DC1- through DC4+/DC4- (see the picture on the referenced decoder Amazon website), so the four pairs of DC input are a direct result of the DMX decoder box design.
It is possible that the wire and connector count is due to amperage restrictions (current per conductor). Remember, there will be about five times as much electrical current at 24V as there was at 120V (or ten times as much current at 24V as at 240V), so you just need more wire (or bigger wire) to avoid frying the wires, which could melt the insulation, cause a short, throw a circuit breaker, interrupt a worship service, generate toxic fumes, start a fire, etc., all of which you would want to avoid.
I recommend that you read the decoder manual for more detailed information, and consult your local electrical code to make sure that the wire gauge is satisfactory. But if four wires of a certain gauge are recommended, please use four wires. Please don't think you're doing any worthwhile ministry by burning down your church.
Thanks!
can i still do this if my LEDs are 24V DC Natural white color? I understand he did it with RGBW LED strips. Can it be done with Natural white colored strips?? please help
I believe you would be able too. How many wires are coming from your LED tape?
Could you please, make something with a madrix? like pixel mapping, that would awesome...
Alexander LP that would be awesome, but they’re using LED tape, instead of pixel tape. So, there’s not much need for pixel mapping since there’s no individual pixel control.
you need a different kind of encoder/decoder for this... we are working on a custom chip to decode DMX to a 6m pixel rgbw strip. there are solutions in the industry but they run very fast in their limitations. Pixel mapping is not really what DMX is for :/
Most professional solutions use decoders that take video input.
What encoder would I need
Could you pass along the source or link to the spool of 5-wire cable you showed?
I didn't see the link for that.
Thanks
No problem, I’ll reply soon
So... it looks like they are out of stock because I can’t find it anywhere. The links I provided previously had both white and black options.
@@WorshipLeaderHangout where are said links?
So I found that this is sprinkler wire 18/5 that you can find at most home improvement stores.
@@AndrewBernardez did that work? The one I found didn’t have blue wire.
