The very keen eyed might notice that I spliced in old footage of shaping the hook… I lost the original footage 😢
Next time you’re using the table saw, please use a bit of scrap wood to push what you’re cutting. It’s scary seeing you shove your thumbs directly towards the blade 😂
From the thumbnail I thought your wife drove an R8. I was like, way to go, my fellow trophy husband
After seeing one of your videos I recalled buying a large lot of windshield wipers years ago that were so terrible I refused to sell them. I dug a number of them out from storage and stripped them down. I made a very quick diamond pick with one, shattering my "heavy duty" flush cutters in the process (be careful). The steel is fairly hard and I've picked a number of locks with it, but it's definitely thick and more suited to tensioning tools...or possibly some bypass tools.
Now that turned out very nicely, I love the finish, and J&B weld is amazing stuff!
Always great to see you creating new tools or, in this case, repurposing junk to make useful picking tools. I wonder what the bunch back at M.I.T. who ground down street sweeper bristles to make their crude picks would think of this. I think they'd probably be very impressed.
I knew I kept a couple of windscreen wipers for a reason after taking the inserts out! 😂
Great idea mate, thanks for sharing 👍 💜
4:55 to those who use Imperial measurements: He misspoke, it's 0.8 millimeters thick, not 8 millimeters.
Did you have a 'window' of opportunity to steal the blade from your wife's car? When she finds out, she will 'wipe' the floor with you. 🤣
Road sweeping broom
Very cool! I made my first picks out of wiper blade but never found any that thick! I showed my homemade ones in a recent video yesterday called tools and Troubles. New to video making lol
She’s going to be pretty upset next time she drives in the rain
Well there goes the no-claims 😅
That nifty little cutter that looks like a mini table saw....where did you find that?
Made my first picks and tension tool out of wiper blades. The fist store bought picks were the ones you designed for multipick. I thought that they would be a lot larger because i had never seen a 'real' pick before. They were, and still are great picks. Thanks for doing what you do.
I reckon it's probably spring steel. They wouldn't go to the both of coating it if it were stainless.
I'm working on a set of picks just now, gonna be micarta handles. 😊😊
Thanks ive once used blades of hacksaws
Have you ever tried making picking tools out of old hacksaw or coping saw blades? I remember them being very thin and flexible and made of carbon steel. I think maybe junior hacksaw blades? And I assume that blades for cutting metal would be more durable than blades for wood.
Maybe try a variety of little saw blades?
Very cool! How many locks per mile does it pick? Thanks for sharing Ash and take care mate.
I make picks out of wiper inserts too. On the hooks I have to thin it down to about .20-18 it's just too thick for spp-ing imho
i like to use old knives bought from the local car boot.. old, quality steel, already has a handle.. you can get some little and old Japanese knives that hardly need any modification at all! 🔪
When I am using epoxy or JB weld, I mix it in a plastic spoon and use a broken handle or plastic knife to mix and apply. Then you can just throw them away. Or sometimes the epoxy peels off the plastic.
Pretty cool, nicely done!
I have had those wiper blade metal pieces break off.
Love these type of videos!!
Love what you've made and achieved with it but my anxiety as a machinist is through the roof with that cutting of the handle 😳😳😱
If you turn the saw blade backwards (teeth in opposite direction) it cuts plastics much better & cleaner.
I make mine thinner using an orbital sander.
Bravo 👏👏👏👍💯🔥🔥🔥🥇
Very nice hook you made. Excellent. Handle one of the Best of home made what I see 😮😊👍👍
Nice idea you have and great result 💯🥇👍
Very nice! Like most of your fans, i really enjoy and am inspired by these diy hack videos!
You,r already for opening best shop, good luck!
I would like to see what you can make a pick with in a grocery store.
Avocados. Definitely avocados.
How about a thrift store. Get an old kitchen knife, they have decent stainless and the handle could be shaped for your use.
Great work 😀👍 beautiful! 🐾🐈⬛🐈🐾🍻
very cool Ash mate👍😊🇬🇧😎👊
Really COOL 😎
A hairdressers?
What next, his brother's toothbrush?
*makes notes
@@LockNoob Have you ever used 'J-B Weld Steel Stik High Strength Automotive Epoxy Putty' for any of your handles?
Its a really neat material - It hardens to feel almost like a rock. Cool to the touch at first and super hard. Very pleased with the feedback also. When I use it - i just make the whole handle with it.
Long time I get your videos.
Nice vid as always, but I must admit I was just waiting for a female voice at the end saying "You won't believe what someone has done to my car!"
👌👏
