if you glue the smooth side of the cable ties to the pick you then have a surface with a built in grip surface. You could also cover with the shrink tubing some older pickers need that type of surface to give extra grip
Rad Derry are you OK? Iâm not sure youâre really into lock picking... also, Iâm certainly not from the USA, if thatâs your insinuation; itâs genuinely hard to tell đ€·ââïž
Cool hacksđ
I feel like I don't deserve all these, all at once, without stretching it into a 40 minute video full of bullshit or stupid music. A lot of meat and no filler on this plate, thanks dude.
Thanks đ
Hey, sensible use of a selfie stick. First time ever.
that's what mine ended up as you can make two sets out of one
Lol agreed!
Handheld bandsaw blades are an excellent source for steel to make picks.
.0020 thick and tough as all Hell.
Cool, good tip!
The "bristles" from street sweeper trucks make great material too! They are fairly thin steel, and break off all the time, so you can find them just laying around in the streets!!!
Make sure you do clean then thoroughly though ;)
Some of my first picking tools were made from street sweeper bristles. And hacksaw blades too but those I dont recommend ...
In a lot of places, the street sweepers use plastic brushes.
@@WolfJustWolf yeah I've noticed that too... I only find a few of the steel bristles a year these days...
Those are good, but we donât see those around here that much
Now that's good stuff. I can't wait to try some of these. At 73 years old I recently became interested in lock picking and picked my first lock a month ago. I'm way behind and feel I have so much to learn in such a short time, but it is so much fun...when it opens.đ
NEVER too late!
Pill organizers are a great place to keep pins. The one I use has 28 compartments and sells for less than 10$ US on Amazon. A tray holds seven removable containers each with four compartments. The black lettering (eg. Monday Lunch) comes off easily with cello tape so you can put on your own labels or just write on the lids with a sharpie.
Yes, another good tip!
I like this idea. I'm a walking talking medical disaster area so I have some of these, but I'd never thought to use them for holding anything besides pills. Until now!
I've found bead sorting trays from the local craft store to be, by far, my favorite organizers. Lots of sizes and designs. Designed with round bottom edges for ease of lifting tiny things out of each section, etc.
Music wire (piano wire) for making custom tensioners. A Leatherman-style multi-tool usually has everything you need to bend and file the wire. You can get any angles you want on the fly (or on the job). Pre-cut a few and bring them with you. When the tip becomes dull or worn, cut it of and file a new tip with tight fit. (I actually made a video using one...)
Yes, i use a lot of music wire!
The stainless zip ties is something i will look into.
For small diameter cores, i use the back of a drill bit as a plug follower.
Ah yes, good idea đĄ
Brilliant, awesome ideas, I really like the shrink tubing idea and where to find metal pieces to make your own picks. Thanks for sharing your picking knowledge. BTW you have some really cool old locks, and a lot of locks I'm sure.
I >really< need to stop overthinking things! Thank you, sir. This is a wonderfully helpful video.
Thanks đ
Awesome Hax! Here's a few I have...
1. The black metal banding used on shipments secured to pallets is very strong in the up/down direction yet thin and flexible in the left/right direction. A roll is a lifetime supply.
2. Selfie stick followers have a groove which can accept the driver pins and keep the follower from rotating and allow the pins to be nestled.
3. Those same selfie-stick followers are fantastic as a size adapter for a DIY silencer on a BB pistol (CO2 type). Damn fun! (Check YT for instructions)
4. Your Dremel shaft looks as though it may be slightly bent or off alignment. Time to spoil yourself with a new Dremel. Thx for all your vid's Dude!
Thanks đ
Weâre do you by the metal bands
@@Blakes123 Shipping Supply but I would look near a warehouse for free banding left on the ground.
I use the flat springs from toy pullback cars to decifer combination locks. The smaller the car, the smaller and thinner the springs.
Nice!
Some really good ideas for those on a budgetđ thanks for sharing with us all đ
Thanks đ
Another hack: precision knife handles can be used with credit card picks (especially those from A.Wendt but to a lesser extend also the cheap James Bond set) or self-made picks made from wiper inserts, to make handling them much easier.
I made lock picks from hacksaw blades. I have some in .022â and .018â. Iâm sure they have thickness in between. They use high carbon steel and they are very cheap. 1 blade can make 2 picks. Add some heat shrink tubing for handle and we are good to go.
Cool!
Wow, so many ideas for the average locksporter!!!! Thanks for the wonderful videos keep up the great work.đđđđ
Thanks đ
Excelente thaks
Stellar presentation transforming the arcane to the obvious.
I make my picks out of windshield wiper inserts and they work out pretty well, they are pretty strong and can be polished for a nice look
Yeah, cool hack too!
The follow tubings are my favourite. Great vidđ
Thanks friend!
Absolutely brilliant đđ»âđ»
Thanks đ
With such an excellent range of ideas here you are stretching the accuracy of your Lock Noob moniker
Brilliant, love it!!
Thanks đ
Very nice and useful tips! đđ
I like all your tips...
I've used most of them myself and they work great đ
Thanks đ
My favorite improvised padlock follower is the barrel from a Pilot G2 pen. It fits them perfectly.
Pens are very handy!
Great info! This is important information. You have to make your own tools sometimes to progress in locksport!
You sure do!
Some great hacks. I've tried quite a few, but some are new to me. Will add them to my toolkit. You just earned another sub.
Excellent, Thank You for sharing.
Thanks!
Great ideas!
Thanks đ
What a fantastic video! Really enjoyed that thanks.
Thanks đ
I have been enjoying most of those. The plastic ejector rods are also brilliant. The pinning shoe as Carlos showed very recently is great and many things more are fantastic hacks. A very enjoyable video Ash! Worth a repeat with updates in the future. You packed this with great ideas. đ
Ill have to remember those for the future!
I starded my own videos. You might be interested. So far, it's 3 times tooling. Doesn't look great like your creations, but they work well. I will publish on a low frequency probably whenever I have something I don't see often with others.

CRIKEY! Talk about using your initiative!
More hacks than Vinny Jones!
Thank you , i made a bunch of blanks for tensioning tool from two wiper blades
no prpblem!
Street sweeper bristles make good tention tools and picks. Metal brick strapping is great for all kinds of stuff, used bobby pin ground thin on the sidewalk for padlock shims, strips from 2 liter soda bottles for door latch bypasses.
Yes, good tip
The stainless steel zip ties if cut with a profile like a knife pick, work better when bypassing combo locks then the blunt tip you showed. also when cut with the knife profile they can be used as a decoder.
If you cut a tapered notch about 5mm from the tip of the stainless steel zip tie, it works in place of âthe long shootâ picks. I actually find the stainless steel zip ties more effective then the long shot because it slides in and out through the lock without hanging up on anything except the release pin in mortis locks
Good tips!
I just rediscovered a nail-polishing gadget that might be of use. It's a roughly 17.5 x 2 x 1.5 cm (7 x 0.8 x 0.6 inch sort of) spongy bar with abrasive areas around it. On the top and bottom there are some rough abrasive material and on the sides there are areas marked; Step 1 : Even out, Step 2 : Smooth, Step 3 : Buff, Step 4 : Shine. They actually work for polishing a hook or rake if you get a nick (burr or maybe a flash you didn't notice on a new pick) in them. The weight is negligible and perhaps something to carry in your EDC-kit. Nice to have if you find that a tool needs some polishing. I used these "bars" when building plastic models since they allowed me to sand and polish clear parts, like air-craft canopies with a molding-seam in the middle - didn't think about using them on metal until now. This is not a heavy duty tool, but it would work "in the wild" if you realize a hook has a burr or flash somewhere interfering with feedback.
Oh yeah, I think we have one of those in the house!
Excellent hacks! Thank you!
Thanks đ
Awesome hacks, tips and tricks. Thanks for sharing Ash and have a great weekend.
You too Gazz!
fantastic tricks, thanks for sharing
Thanks đ
Great video! Iâd really like to see a video showing how to make TOK tensioners from feeler gauges like you showed briefly here. I searched your other videos but didnât see one, unless I didnât go back far enough. Either way thanks for sharing these tips! đ

What a great video , I appreciate all the time you put in the help us .Its the one sport that you can pick up and put down at any time.
One tip here, ÂŁ1 shop has plastic multi compartment boxâs for small parts and a lock collections. About 10â x 6â. ÂŁ1.50.
Great video. Seen a few tricks i didnt know that I'm going to try. Thanks!
Thanks đ
A brilliant video! Thanks very much!
Thanks!
I'd like to see more of these. Have you ever made your own lock pick folder/jackknife? I'm in the middle of making one with those little knock off swiss army multi-tools that has a knife, file & scissors. Turning them into picks like a hook, half diamond & then a snake/bogota hybrid. & then put a tension wrench in place of the tooth pick & then was thinkin about keeping the tweezers to maybe use as a shim for the combo locks. Havent tried it tho.
Yes I have tried that and it works ok!
Something I have used, when I took apart my first lock. I did not have a follower. I had a couple different sized wood dowels that I cut down and tried. Those worked great.
Yes, good hack!
Some proper inspired creativity on show here. I particularly liked the idea of using headphone adapters as handles. Perhaps there's also a hack to turn a thick paperclip into a narrow probe to actuate detents. I'd imagine they could be mounted into a handle without too much difficulty.
A bobby pin works well for that
Wow! Great hacks. Thanks for sharing đđđŠ
Thanks đ
Well this video is definitely going in my saved lists, Cheers for this ;-)
Thanks đ
Very cool bag of tricks you have up your sleeve. Very, very useful. Excellent hack jobs
Thanks đ
Badass macgyver, thank you!!
I'd never heard of stainless cable ties - I must try those out ! An alternative to large cable ties for handles - I have used pairs of plastic glue spatulas (stirrers) epoxied together and shaped in the way you describe.
Cool idea!
Thanks for this list. Very useful!
Thanks đ
These Are really good ideas,I was starting to give up on picking after seeing the prices on tools and vises especially,Thank you!
Thanks đ
Again another amazing idea video!!!
Great video. Think many starting picking not knowing if they will like it, can save some start up cash by following these tricks
Thanks đ
Saved me so much time ty
Yes mate you missed some great stuff. Standard snapper,DT SWISS spoke snapper, angled dimple snapper,snap-city raker,flat- pointed rake snapper, dual snapper ,self tensioner, bogota snapper,tensioner-snapper.They do a lot of help on medium and some high security locks, easy to make ,just need some bicycle spokes and good hand with hammer with some filing.......
Ah yes, Bicycle spokes are great!
I think you're missing one
THE R E D B U L L C A N
If you need a lighted plug follower, a Maglite Solitaire flashlight is 1/2 inch diameter. The one with a bulb instead of an LED works better. The LED is too bright.
Bought one on your recommendation
wow that is some awesome info! thank you! please do more!
Thanks, I will do!
Never thought of some of these hacks excellent ideas thanks
Thanks đ
I remember the underwire video. Poor Mrs Noob...Or perhaps I should be saying lucky Mr Noob đ
đđ
Great video as always lock noob ! keep up the good work
Great. Hope you follow up with more videos like this when there dropping down more ideas. đ
Iâll try!
Awesome video & some fantastic hacks, the bra wire has to be my favourite đ
One of your other fantastic hacks was the 12mm PTFE Bar I use them all the time. Thanks for another great video & have a great weekend. đ
that was ace, thanks for thatđđ
Thanks đ
Brilliant
Some great info there.
Thanks đ
Amazing video, thanks for the tips!
Thanks đ
Absolutly THE BEST hacks video I've ever saw!
Thanks đ
Excellent tips! I can add one. Bike spokes. Take one and smash the end with a big hammer on an anvil and bend it over. Makes a great tension tool.
I've heard metal whisks, like for making pancake batter, are useful in a similar manner.
Yes, great material!
Aero spokes work great without having to smash them. A bit thicker than wiper inserts and about the same width. When they fit, they're my favorite tensioning tool.
@@NelsonSherry Yeah, aero spokes would be perfect
I extremly like your chanel. Tks u verryyyyyyyyyy much !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks đ
4:40 those are big cups! Congrats mate!
Excellent video bro!
Thanks đ
Simply put ,all very good idea's, well done, billbo

Nice. I appreciate the tips.
Thanks đ
Nice one!
Thanks đ
Nice tips quick and to the point đ
Thank you đ
Great video ash my friend. đđ€đđș
Thanks đ
the mono to mono is no 1 for me
They do make great handles for sure!
Super cool Lock noob. Wish I saw this back when I started! My favorite would have to be using popsicle sticks(the wider ones used for crafts) to make excellent wooden handles for bareback picks.
Yes, a great hack!
Very useful information as always!
Thanks again!
@@LockNoob Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Much appreciated.
Great hacks!!!
đđđđđŸđđ·
Thanks đ
Great video
Thanks đđ
This a fantastic video thank u!
Thanks đ
nice,nice
Nice vid, kinda all in one!! have a great day!
You too
Great video! In a completely different vein, I saw a phone app that listens to a key being inserted into a lock to decode the bitting.
Whats the app name?
@@insanoinsano3878 - Sorry, but I didn't install the app. I assume this is an app someone developed for their own use and it probably isn't on the Apple or Google app stores. :-)
Great tips sir! I imagine that Mrs. Noob is constantly wondering why she needs to replace said unmentionables đđ»
đ
Would like a touch more on the stainless steel ties. What kind of cuts and shapes work best or general
I only use them as they are, but a 30 degree angle cut might work better
I'm lost the key to my filing cabinet, but don't wan't to destroy it just keep it open all the time.
I'd like to buy a tool that has high probability to open it without spending too much time. Any thoughts on the auto jiggler or the Lishi 2-in-1 Lock pick? Multipick Kronos?
If you are an iron/steel welder, you can use wire from your machine to pick a lock. Well, I did it ... đ
Iâll bear that in mind!
Un-mentioned Hack -as you requested. Scrap bicycles- wheel spokes for bypass wires, mortice wires etc. etc. , endless braided cable (letterbox tools etc.) and loads of "bits & bobs" - random Aluminium and Brass pieces - depends on the bike ! (Ps Love your channel and appreciate all i've learnt - Thanks)
Thanks đ
Cute there mate
super
Thanks đ
I must say fantastic hack video Ash my friendđđđŹđ§đ€đđ

@@LockNoob your very welcome
Great video, I have to say your selfie stick idea ended me with some amazing followers
Will such followers work on most locks in N.america?
Thanks đ
