- We celebrated 200 years of bringing people and paintings together with this light show projected onto the front of our building. Highlights from the Gallery's history and paintings are brought to life. Watch in awe as our building is transformed, bringing the inside out. And learn how our history has shaped the National Gallery today.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, and has supported us from near and afar, over our Big Birthday Weekend.

The National Gallery houses the national collection of paintings in the Western European tradition from the 13th to the 19th centuries. The museum is free of charge and open 361 days per year, daily between 10am - 6pm and on Fridays between 10am - 9pm.

What an excellent celebration. My favourite painting is the Wilton Diptch. Whenever I went to London, it almost became a pilgrimage to visit. Sadly, I'm no longer able to travel.
It’s my favourite too! I visit it every time I go to the NG; and now it’s on holiday here in Oxford I can see it more frequently.

I wish I had known ..... would love to see this on a bigger screen (than my phone) - see there is an art film in June - but this should be shown in a room a few times a day for a year. I think I first visited 54 years ago! My current favourites - you do some amazing small 1 room exhibitions that are powerful and informative.
