- First opened to the public in 1930, Room 29 is one of the largest spaces in the National Gallery. Since its doors closed in March 2022, we have been busy making important changes to the room to bring it into the 21st century. But what is the history of this room and what did it look like before? Find out as we go behind the scenes.
Edit: Prince George was the Duke of Kent (George VI's brother) and not the future King George VI, who was Prince Albert before he ascended the throne.

The National Gallery houses the national collection of paintings in the Western European tradition from the 13th to the 19th centuries. The museum is free of charge and open 361 days per year, daily between 10.00 am - 6.00 pm and on Fridays between 10.00 am - 9.00 pm.

The first image that comes to mind is all the unused space, when there's a lot of art in storage.
Yes, I know, you'll say "But do you not understand? The space is used, it's used to place the picture in the perfect setting..." still I'd rather see additional paintings.

I miss the National Gallery so much... I used to go there to sketch or just admire the art work. I loved each hall and the care that went into every detail of that building. Now that i have moved away it feels like loosing a friend 😢💔 i will definitely come visit next year and celebrate your 200th birthday 🎂❤

King George VI was Prince Albert before taking the throne NOT Prince George. Prince George was in fact his brother, the Duke of Kent.
