Celtics are going all-in for the next 3-4 years. Coach Mazzulla gave Jrue the keys to the defense this year and the Celtics have been a dominant defensive team. A no-brainer deal, especially with Horford likely retiring soon as well
No matter what I think Al Horford plays one more year. Even if the Celtics win this year I think he comes back for another year. If the Celtics somehow lose Horford will DEFINITELY come back for another season.

I don't think it's accurate to just call Jrue a defensive guard. He is also a playmaker and is certainly capable of being (and has been) a 20 point per game scorer, the Celtics just don't need him to be that. I for one also appreciate The leadership and sort of player-coach mentality that he and Horford bring to the team as they get older. Also keep in mind that many dwindling teams will take on salary for bloated contracts in return for pics. If Holiday's game dips too much, that is an option. I could see many teams not expecting to win now wanting His kind of veteran presence as a mentor for young players. It seems the Celtics have a great locker room right now, And I am glad they are trying to maintain it.

This is a terrible signing. At this stage of his career, Holiday is the 4th or 5th option on the Celtics, and he's 33 years old. That's a ridiculous contract for a guy who's basically a role player now.

Ppl are debating if Brown is Boston’s best player so his $300m+ extension is now justified. Holiday & Porzingis signed for less than they would get as ufas especially if Boston wins the title.

White’s current contract is until 2026
2025 he's a free agent meaning we have him next year but not the 25-26 season. Which is why I was saying I hope we have enough to sign him.

As Marks says Boston doesn’t have to pay Derrick White THIS OFFSEASON, 180 roughly if they give Tatum the super max plus depth, with the tv deal only increasing the cap Boston could get by paying Derrick White in 2024 roughly 25-30 million and still get by, but what REALLY matters is getting some solid guy off the bench, hauser, Pritchard, Tillman, Horford all work.
Another thing to keep in mind is the Celtics can retain their starters plus giving Hauser and/or White an extension if Horford retires this year or next year, saving about 10 million.
As a matter of fact, they CAN pay everybody.

@@guyoverthere3098 he is the fourth option offensively plays are designed for Tatum, Brown, and KP . White and holiday are more catch and shoot guys unless one of the top 3 aren’t playing . You can justify it I’m happy for him just doesn’t make the most financial sense for the Celtics. His playmaking is fine they don’t run the offense through him though so it’s not all that relevant. Defense is great . It’s hard to quantify leadership . Boston will have the most expensive starting lineup in the league when Tatum gets paid .

@Kay-be9xl That's all well and good, but his production at this stage of his career won't match what the salary is. They're overpaying him. Jalen Brunson is averaging 28 points a game for the Knicks and is getting paid a lot less than Holiday.
This is going to get interesting for the next few years...Boston does like what Holiday brings them on and off the court, and hey even if the contract doesn't do well after 2 yrs, good for Jrue getting his bag. Ppl have to understand when you have a big 3 of Tatum, Brown, Porzingis your goal is championship or bust esp. given the legacy of the Celtics so you have to make moves like this. White will definitely get a bag next and it could come at the expense of losing Hauser, but in with the new CBA agreement this was likely going to happen, so Bostons best bet to compete past next year is hopefully extend White, Hauser and many of their other depth pieces as possible( likely team friendly deals), then they have to hit on their vet minimum and rookie deals bc it's going to get expensive for them going forward!!

2024-2025: same roster besides Brissett and maybe Horford
2025-26: White and Tatum player option aren’t under contract, both UFA - could be paying 220 million to the whole team and 205 million to JUST THE STARTERS
2026-27: same thing a few guys aren’t under contract (more younger guys) but are RFA
2027-28: Porzingis is NOT under contract in this year, Jrue’s final year as well
2028-29: Jaylen Browns final year under contract, would be 33 - Tatum might need an extension this year (if still on Boston)
2029-30: Tatum final year possibly, same with Derrick White depending on length of contract
