With a bed of stellar production and several releases under his belt as one half of the Super Chron Flight Brothers, elusive D.C. MC Billy Woods returns to making solo material with History Will Absolve Me.
What do you think of this album? Love it? Hate it? Why? What should I review next, too? Huh?

Y'all know this is just my opinion, right? - Hudba
This album has aged really well.
Still bump it to this day
Absolutely
one of the greatest albums ever made. easiest 10 i've ever given
@@ugonwigwe5136 facts its a top 10 hip hop album ever
Bumped it on the way to work this morning. One of the best aged albums I have ever heard in my life.
This deserves a classics week nod
It's not a ten
Yes it does. It’s the start of an era.
@@ethanielclyne5810 Doesn't have to be a 10 to get a nod
That makes no sense. He already reviewed it
Man this guy hasn't missed a single time since this (and before) but the run since this album is something i wish i could get my friends to understand. Fascinating stuff
As someone that lives in Congo and was here when Nyiragongo erupted this year, my favorite line is "The forest inexorably growing as Kinshasa crumbles the dreams of Romans drowned out by Nyiragongo's rumble"
BARS
i can't say i am. i'm not really a b.o.b. fan. yeah, mainstream stuff is cool to review every once in a while, but i don't see myself really turning anyone onto b.o.b. with a review, honestly. *shrugs*

Review the classic 'Cold Vein' Cannibal Ox. Please
Woah he just did it
Greetings from 2019. I got some news for you...
Wow this album is this old? Over 10 years old and it sounds just as inspired and fresh as his new stuff. Incredible!
isn't it more interesting that his new stuff sounds just as inspired as his early work. most rappers would've fallen off by now
Going 20 years strong
Hyped for this record's reissue and Wood's next project.
Aethiopes is like Shrines, its good after a relisten imo, the beats on this album are insane
@@sudonim116Aethieopes is a masterpiece
Almost 10 years on, still hasn't been topped by anyone.
He topped it a couple times, and so did Armand Hammer
The cover of the album is a close-up of Robert Mugabe, longstanding and controversial President of Zimbabwe. With Woods' Zimbabwean background, the image and the title (a famous Castro quote) add another layer of deconstruction to the album's writing content itself.
Glad you reviewed it and that Woods is getting more attention. The album is outstanding. "Pump Up the Volume" might be my favorite track though, but I can totally see why someone wouldn't like the out-of-nowhere hook.
the global north will never forgive Mugabe and Zimbabwe for overthrowing Rhodesia, trying to stop apartheid and undo colonialism. Zimbabwe is under multiple brutal economic sanctions for 20+ years and to this date the US is still doing it.
Woods is the son of Zimbabwe immigrants and revolutionary activists.
thank you needle drop for introducing me to billy woods. i went back and listened to his old shit and i'm hooked.
Damn, nine years ago. THIS is the very first episode of "theneedledrop" that made me a fan of this channel.
Got the 10th anniversary vinyl reissue. Thanks for the intro back in the day melon
probably my favorite rap album ever made

The relationship between Anthony and Cal has taken a dark turn. Such is the result of two brilliant minds under one roof.
I think the flow reminds of GZA, if he was angry and or paranoid
Mokhele Ntho Great comparison
Mokhele Ntho same here him & mf doom there vocab rhyme schemes are so underrated imo.
Is it just me who looked at the tambourine hanging on his back wall as he said tambourine
I love that video game sample in 'Duck Hunt'... so nostalgic :)
probably one of the best albums of 2012 hands down eh
Probably and hands down are counter intuitive in the same sentence.
But I agree
Man, I was instantly hooked when I heard Crocodile Tears, there's a few other songs that felt so great
Hell yea thanks for reviewing my fav. rap album of the year. Good to see woods getting more exposure with this release. Have you listened to Ka's Grief Pedigree?
I was impressed by the cover as I came across this work by coincidence on Bandcamp. I did buy it as the music is incredible with lyrics that are fly around as Schrapnells, the way I like it by the way as most in rock/ folk are way to soft these days.
So true man there's no passion or spite
Another great song that you should look up by Billy Woods is The Darkness, featuring Vordul Mega (one of the dudes from Cannibal Ox). I have no idea why it's not on this album. It's my favorite track from Billy Woods.
Thanks Music Nerd, you've become a great source to find new music.
Very informative review man. Well done.
This album took me plenty of listens to understand what is going on.I do not regret it as it has turned out to be one of my very favorites up there with the likes of liquid swords and mad villainy.Billy Woods is like no other out there, nice review!
Love this album. 9/10 imo
I'm glad you turned me onto this album. Why is no one talking about this one?!
I didn’t hear you talk about the man who would be king, I was waiting for your synopsis for that track
Coming from the interview, nice.
yeah, it's kinda thrown together, but the music isn't.
never really been a oizo fan. :-S
theneedledrop ok
Cal Chichester rocking that Giles Corey look.
I would really love to see you review the album Hadestown by Anais Mitchell. I think you could provide a really interesting perspective on it.
Glad you did this!
I enjoy this album very much, very different from any other rap I have heard before
After actually listening to this I have to say those are some damn versatile beats.
Mayday's "Take Me To Your Leader" album came out a few weeks ago. I'd like to know what you think of that.
I'd also like to see a review of Prozak's album "Paranormal"
And Krizz Kaliko's album "Kickin' and Screamin" is coming out in a week. That one should be interesting. I wouldn't mind hearing what you think about it when it comes out.
Review for Santigold's Master of My Make-Believe is needed.
I really wish you'd do more mainstream stuff :/
Do you plan on doing Strange Clouds?
I always found this album to be generally fantastic, especially from the Intro all they way up to Pompeii, just one solid track after another. So 2/3 of the album were already pretty great. Sadly I didn't dig too much anything after that except Sour Grapes and The Wake which is my favorite and the best song here, perfect closer. It's just a lil bit too long and he didn't really do anything new to keep my attention, the beats were also kinda not as interesting anymore in the last third of the album.. Those song were ofc not bad at all but kinda meh compared to the others. But regardless 8/10 for me.
Duck Hunt and Famous Last Words...
newcomingfilms Human Resources bumps too!!
you never mentioned the wake anthony. review just that song for me.
Started listening to billy with maps, loved this one, glad to see melon did too
Billy Woods does work with Vordul Mega from Cannibal Ox :D
The creepshow sample on high tide is so fucking fire
thanks for introducing me to this, this is good! :)
wow you already got me into him halfway the review
Why not a 9?
a Classic that no one deserves to know
ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Finally got around to hearing this. Pretty solid record.
Listen to his debut camouflage
This album owns
You could do a track review of the new Twin Shadow single, Five Seconds.
I have just discovered woods.. My new favorite rapper ..for now anyway.. This album is top shelf.. The wake.. I think is my favorite.. But body of work.. Powerful
Check out his debut Camouflage
Ramona Falls - Prophet. I would really enjoy your opinion on it.

anthony, my man, why don't you make a video showing us all of your priced possessions, like lps or music memorabilia in general. that would be great. peace.
Damn I'm so late getting this album. Fucking great! Him and Elucid are becoming regulars for me. I would give my left kidney to hear Billy and him make a track with RTJ!
Robert Towney Jr. doesn't make any music, sorry to bring the news.
I like pump up the volume personally, it is horrible in the way you described but at the same time i found somthing very great about it for that same reason
Why you no review Action Bronson x Party Supplies Blue Chips? Planet Asia's Black Belt Theatre?
You should totally review the new Driftless Pony Club album (when it comes out)!
probably my favourite rap album of the year
Love ya ND.
Just listened the album a couple of days ago. To me it's a decent 9, of of my favorites in conscious hip-hop, liked it even more than Black On Both Sides. And production reminds me Death Grips stuff so much a lot of the time. Thanks for the review. Btw, can't believe you didn't mention The Man Who Would Be A King, it's just simply the best track on album.
Just to state my opinion on this, should anthony read it, I really like the jump cuts, because it breaks the monotony of speach. I don't think they're overused( unlike shane dawson, who can't finish a sentence without jump cutting -.-)
So, from where I stand, I am a fan of the jumpcats and wacky effects, they are a real nice feature of Anthony's reviews.
please review Alabama Shakes - Boys & Girls
it was released in April.
my favourite song is "I ain't the same"
when it comes out, please review In The Belly of the Brazen Bull - The Cribs :)
is it as good as "Clouds" record from last year?
also, please review the new Mount Eerie. Its leaked if you weren't aware.
Review Knife Party's Rage Valley when it comes out! It's an Electro House/Dubstep group. They make very energetic music :)
haha, fair response :) I suppose I would like to know his opinion on some of the bands I like as well but I think the introduction to new music is just as useful.
Hell yes for flutes.
He did, way back when it came out. Just go through the videos and you will find it,
Future isn't flying cars it's Billy Woods absolved
phenomenal album
Track 12's called 'Pompeii', not 'Pompeli'.
I don't know why I waited on this. I just bought this last week. and this album is fantastic.
PLEAASEE Review Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake, it's an older album but is easily one of the best albums I have ever heard, also Fantastic Planet by Failure is an amazing album and I think that you would like it, thank you! :D
Hey man, would love to hear some Die Antwoord reviews. Love your work.
This album is 🔥🔥
Review that new screeming females album plz. Nice review! Will have to check this out.

Anthony have you heard of Foreign Fields....so good! Check them out.
is the name from the fidel castro speech?
Like El-p. I love his stuff
Thanks for the great review Anthony, could you tell me the name of the song on his first album that sampled the Velvet Underground? Thanks!
Considering im replying a decade later this comment might be irrelevant. But its the maryland intro where billy raps over the riff from heroin
Oh, and I'd suggest you'd check out Zeigenbock Kopf. Older, but probably one of the closest things to Death Grips that I've heard that came out before it.
I'm curious about what his opinion would be. Plus I don't plan on buying the album as a whole, and I know he goes through and critiques every song.
Hey check it! The Walkmen have a new album coming out this month. I expect a review!
It's been a hot minute since this absolute GEM dropped, and it, and Crocodile Tears in particular, are still at least like in the top-10 objectively best rap specimen. Crocodile Tears flows like high speed fall down the 99 steps of the FUCK YOU staircase; crunchy like shattered teeth; vigorous and bright as a firenado. Punchlines that pull no punches, and they are coming out of nowhere every time. God. Damn!
MADVILLAINY!!
You should review B.o.B's new Album "Strange Clouds"
El-P - Cancer for Cure.
Seriously Fantano, I need you to tell me if I can like it.
does anyone know where i can get the other album he mentioned?
background DOOM
he's a tank, check out the SXSW recap vids where you see his body
Just wait until "Dour Candy" drops.
NEW LOWER DENS album, step forward from their last, which was brilliant
madvillian lurkin in the backround
He did a Death Grips album review and another colab. recently. Gave Money Store a 10. I actually liked it and i'm not real big into rap.
