    The main argument against Dana here is, he's comparing Rousey to athletes in an established sport. Not only is the UFC fairly young as a sport, but that division is especially new and so is the talent. Perhaps we've been fooled by Rousey since the beginning. What if she was just a "good" combat sports athlete in a division full of unprovens? Only time will tell.

      @@paolothorpe1461 Jones had three toss up fights leading to his 3 year break. He hand picked his return vs Gane the way boxers hand pick their opponents. He knew Gane had no wrestling ability and wasn't going to be able to reach him. Reminded me of when McGregor waited for Alvarez to become champion to fight for that title. Was very smart to get Gane wrestling in the feeling out stages. But Valentina is the perfect example to what I was speaking on with Rousey. The women's divisions still have a long way to go. Jones could still become that fighter, but I have my doubts. Silva was different and even when he took the DC fight a few years back on 2 days notice, he still scared him when he landed a few shots that were too good, so Cormier took it right to the ground.

    Despite his recent "All Lives Matter" comments, in no way whatsoever was Rousey ever as big as Floyd Mayweather. As a matter of fact, didn't she have to exploit his name to grow her own celebrity? Indeed, Rousey, in essence was just a corporate media creation developed to spite Floyd's in-ring success & overshadow Serena Williams' on-court success in 2015. This is why she was promoted so aggressively & was oddly "awarded" the ESPY's for Fighter of the Year & Female Athlete of the Year respectively. Undoubtedly, there were so many people who had never heard of Rousey before 2015, & mainstream sports media networks did not even care about MMA (especially WMMA), but somehow she was dubbed the best athlete in the world seemingly out of nowhere, after just competing in a very new sport for only 4 years (without even fighting someone like Cris Cyborg). Certainly, it's noble of Dana White to take some responsibility for Rousey's loss to Holly Holm, however I know not of one fighter in the world who does MORE media than Floyd Mayweather (look at how much media he did for the Pacquiao fight). In addition to this, Floyd promotes all of his own fights, runs his own promotion company, manages his own stable of fighters, as well as building & marketing his own TMT empire.
    Yet, in spite of his many duties/responsibilities outside of the ring, Floyd has won all of his fights. It didn't matter what distractions he had to deal with outside of boxing, he simply showed up & defeated world class, championship fighters each & every time (49-0). Rousey cannot say that (after all Holly Holm was no killer, she was expected to be Rousey's Andre Berto). Also, Mcgregor can't say this either. After Mcgregor lost to Diaz back in March, he blamed his media obligations for keeping him out of training. Honestly, I find this rather ironic, seeing that both of these fighters were busy calling out Floyd, exclaiming that they were on his level. However, when the dust settled & the smoke cleared, we all saw the cold, hard truth: there is only one Floyd Mayweather! In effect, this is a man who does all of his own promotion & fights elite boxing world champions, all the while facing media scrutiny that Rousey & Mcgregor will never have to endure themselves. And yet, despite all of these challenges, he overcame the odds & always found a way to win. Always! Now, if Floyd would just stop it with the empty-headed social commentary...

    • @Astrong417
      @Astrong417 Před 7 lety

      I agree with the Ronda Point but not the Mcgregor Part......Floyd Could always do his Interviews when he wanted to he was in charge of himself....There was a point in Conor's Career he was only home for 24 days out of a year.....that's Insane....I Don't think anyone will be undefeated In the UFC ever there's just to many Variables....All boxers agree..........Keith Thurman just got done Calling out Floyd on His opponents They're not Elite....In the UFC you dont get to pick your next opponent....You have to Face the next Person on the Ranking List.....Do you know what Floyd never had to deal with? Facing Short Notice Opponents Like Conor Did his entire Career......That's the only reason he lost to Nate he fought him on 11 day Notice and A weight Class he never fought in!........Conor had 6 UFC fighters back out on him in the UFC and he had to fight someone else he didnt train for......He Dana Ran boxing Like he does the UFC Floyd wouldve lost a long time Ago.

    • @joelates5334
      @joelates5334 Před 7 lety +1

      @zion: He did actually, isn't that why he didn't go to the UFC 200 press conference (saying that the media was too much for him & it took too much time away from his training--and even when the fight was signed with Diaz he still went back & forth with the UFC over media responsibilities). He also used weight as an excuse, saying that he didn't expect Diaz's size to be such a factor in the fight, even though they didn't really grapple at all @ UFC 196 (however before the fight he told Diaz not to use the excuse for not having a full camp as reason for losing). And if I'm not mistaken, wasn't Mcgregor's mantra "the opponent is an illusion" & it is actually "you vs you" inside the cage, the best always adapt & overcome & he "would die" before he ever taps out again. So how come people are giving him excuses for losing to an opponent that, in his mind, does not exist?

    • @Astrong417
      @Astrong417 Před 7 lety +1

      Joe Lates you're just looking for every little excuse to hate on the guy and ignore all the chances the guy takes.......you respect Floyd for taking no chances and playing it safe his entire career.....but give no respect to conor who is complete opposite of him......and conor is a knockout artist he comes to fight everytime.

    • @ziondugger496
      @ziondugger496 Před 7 lety +1

      Joe Lates Your wording suggested that he blamed the media obligations for the loss itself, not his preparation for 200. And he never did use weight as an excuse, just a fact that happened to be true. He put blame on himself, saying he had not prepared accordingly for someone who would be as tough and durable as Nate. Had he prepared for 196 like he prepared for 202 i dont believe the narrative would be the same but i digress. Ate the end of the day he didnt blame the weight for his loss he blamed his cardio and his lack of preparation for the bigger man and for 202 I dont remember what he wanted exactly, but you're correct in saying he blamed media obligations from taking time away from his preparation

    I think a lot of the blame goes on her choice of coach, Edmund. Edmund is a 3rd tier coach. Holly is a Championship boxer with like 35-2 record or something crazy, and she is also extremely athletic with explosive kicks. Edmund hyped Ronda up and said and boosted Ronda's confidence in striking.
    Ronda is a bronze medalist in Judo with the best armbar on the woman's side. Edmund should have exploited Holly's weakness in the clench/ground game and told Ronda to avoid striking at all costs instead of standing in the pocket like she did.
    I think if Ronda changed coaches and rededicated herself, she is young enough to where she could be a powerhouse again, but who knows what's in her future.

The thing that's really going to do Ronda wrong is that all her takedowns come from the clinch, and while her Judo is great, she's gonna get tagged a bunch of times trying to close the distance. It would be an interesting match for sure, Rhonda didn't fight her right against Holly, she just ran in and threw heavy punches that missed most of the time. At least Tate stuck to her game plan and eventually got her to the ground. Nunes can knock Rhonda out, no question, but Nunes can also bet taken down and worn out. Don't even mention Cyborg, she has so much 'roids in her blood she'll fail the next drug test and it'll be tested to see if she's a women

      "That's like telling a guy just don't let a BJJ guy take you down." Okay? So are you saying that ISN'T a gameplan to neutralize roussey? So you think opponenets trainers are going to say, "Let ronday grab you." You say it as if that ALREADY isn't the gameplan and can't be executed. Holm use consistent movement and didn't allow ronda to grapple her. This is something that ALL THE GIRLS can execute. SHe got exposed. She can't move, she can't strike, she can't adjust.
      Ronda can't armbar her way to a victory everytime. Yeah tate eventually got her to the ground but holm was surviving against tate. Thats my point, you force ronda to stay up with movement and consistent strikes. You say she didn't fight her right? Bro, its deeper than that. Its the fact that she can't FIGHT against movement. SHE GOT EXPOSED.This isn't some, "oh just do this different and his career is back on track." No bro, SHE GOT EXPOSED BADLY. Nunes and Pina are better strikers than ronda. The "fear" of ronda is done. These girls are COMING FOR HER.

    Yup, Shannon is on point. MMA is way too dangerous and competitive of a sport to not give your 100% to it. And with Ronda, she was becoming a pretty big movie star as well. It's hard to stay motivated when you make just as much in Hollywood as you do in UFC. Also, UFC is a heavily promoted sport. Doing promotions also takes away from your training. It was a multitude of factors that led to her loss. No greats ever not give their 100% to the sport they played.

    She had 1 bad fight and has only lost 1 time in her mma career. I don't care if she lost the mystique of invincibility. Invincibility is not real. Tyson lost, Ali lost, the same team doesn't win the Super Bowl every year. She was going to lose eventually if she kept fighting and wasn't picking and choosing favorable match ups. I want to see how she comes back from a loss because I haven't seen that yet. We saw how Holly came back from a loss, she lost again. When Shannon talks about Holly losing her next fight after she beat Ronda, he's talking about Holly losing to a woman Ronda beat twice. All the evidence points to Ronda not being focused leading up to the loss and not having a good game plan to deal with a superior boxer who specializes in counter punching. She's still a star.

    In MMA, you can't win by just playing defense. You have to be able to hurt your opponent to win. That combined with the fact that the best has to fight the best ensures nobody will ever be undefeated. Jon Jones will eventually lose if he can fight in the octagon and continues to fight the very best.

    • @joelates5334
      @joelates5334 Před 7 lety +3

      John Dodson arguably beat John Lieniker in his last fight. He pulled a rope-a-dope strategy. Although he did not win the fight, a lot of fighters felt he won (it was a very close fight & Dodson outstruck Lieniker overall). This was a defensive strategy that he employed & he walked away from the fight with no visible damage. Surely, you can win in MMA as a defensive fighter, look at how Stephen Thompson defeated Rory McDonald. All you have do is know what the judges are looking for. Certainly, as a fighter, if you are a smart, athletic & technical enough, you can figure out how to win defensively.
