i genuinely love how you have such deep understanding of the characters, i feel like most riverdale reactors only keep reacting to the show to get it over with, but you seem to actually enjoy the show, and understand that it’s supposed to be this campy thing lol. idk i just love your reactions
awww this made my day! I do truly love the show. I’ve grown really attached to it lol even when some of the storylines were bad i still enjoyed watching it.
I personally know some reactors that only watch it for the views, and it bothers me so much. If I don’t like a show, I won’t watch it. plain and simple. thats just not who i am. i’m a bad liar anyways 😂
Machen, unfortunately confirmed that the characters won’t be going back to the present , bc the comet destroyed the present, so there is no present to go back too.

22:11 To name just a few factors that make this duet scene so powerful: 1) Their voices blend incredibly well from the moment they start singing in harmony in the hallway! 2) Remember that Veronica had this song COMMISSIONED for them to sing ABOUT THEM! It wasn't just some generic song. Remember when all the girls were offended by Kevin's original song where they are all Archie crazy (because of course a gay man is going to make a man the center of attention!), and B says, "Is that how you see us?" On the steps, B is interacting with the crowd, but V keeps looking at B. When they are singing to each other, V stares at B's lips while she's singing, which made you ask, "Are they gonna kiss?" In fact, watch that scene & notice how many times she looks at B's lips. She continues to do that when they come back to the room & V says, "Some kind of... energy exchange." 3) They take each other's hands during the final chorus, when they are singing TO each other, & when the room comes back into view, we see they have ACTUALLY physically done so & they remain there facing each other, still holding hands after the song ends. It's not until Kevin starts TALKING (I was like, "SHUT UP! We're still having a moment!" LOL) that they release hands & face forward again. 4) The climax of the song begins when they face each other & sing, "So if you want me, you know where to find me." There is a shift from singing ABOUT oneself and wanting to be seen & known by "they", the crowd, people in general to singing TO another person about seeing THEM. 5) The plane reversal of the camera is used effectively here, even if viewers aren't consciously aware of the effect. Normally, you NEVER want to reverse the plane of view of the camera, because it's disorienting to the viewer. IRL, we don't look at a scene & then suddenly bilocate to the other side of the scene looking back toward where we were just standing. But they did that here. On the steps, B is on the left, V on the right. When the camera cuts to them taking each other's hands & they sing that last verse TO EACH OTHER & when they kiss, V is on the LEFT & B is on the right. When we come back to the room, the plane reverses again, B is once again on the Left, (and her hair style is different from the montage) & V is on the right. Again, this contributes to the, "What just happened?" feeling the 5 of us (the 4 people in the room & the viewer) had.

Beronica are 2 of the 3 main characters & BETTY is the CENTRAL character of this show. She & they SHOULD have more scenes than Choni.
Even though I do think Riverdale lost its path after the second season, I kinda wish it would've always played in the 50s. Like it just fits. Also LOVED the songs this episode

The thing is to be able to enjoy RIVERDALE you have to understand that this show is based off of a comic book, it’s gonna be wild and campy, cringy and ironic at the same time. It’s not bad writing it’s just a style that’s not for everybody.
I like to think the musical confirm the pilot Beronica kiss meant something based off the lyrics of the song BUT it took a simpler time for them to realize it. Since it's more accepted now people experiment more freely etc all that or do it for show whatever have you but then in the 50s they realize it. I do remember thinking when Veronica drank the poison for Betty she DID say I love you first before saying she's her best friend when Betty asks why she did it. I mean I'm still shook though because before I actually saw more with Jughead and Archie but I still shipped Beronica fanon wise. But that moment was one of my favs since a common trope is to confess love when you think you're dying. It feels maybe the song is connecting to the past and how they didn't see before but they see now. Maybe they felt but didn't realize.
What you said about Jughead starting to realize something because of what he said at the beginning is very interesting.
It’s sorta been confirmed they aren’t returning to modern times they’ll stay and die in the 50s just with their modern day memories (I assume). Also, their all from the same time as Jughead idk why he was the only one to remember I guess cause the show is kinda based around his narration.
ive said this before: i liked this new episode. also during Archie All-American. Julian looked supportive when he and Archie sang the song. he was liked nodding and shit. but that's just me
Your reaction to the Beronica scenes have given me life LOL.
Personally I think that it would awesome and subversive as hell for them to have Beronica be end game. Imagine the last ep and Archie finally gets his head of out of ass and decides once and for all who he wants to be with but before he can say anything B and V are like, sorry buddy, you're too late!
I would have loved that. If they hadn't made so many other characters LGB, they might have gotten away with it. Yeah, they might have pissed off the people who would complain that it's not canon, but OMG, this show has not been canon since it started with all the multiverses, time travel, & supernatural shit. That & all the gay characters being out & accepted in the '50s & other anachronisms, the language used (i.e. "quad" is crazy achronistic to the '50s when words like, "Swell!" were used instead of, "Awesome!") & the "quad" arrangement itself shows that they totally threw out the canon. SPOILERS BELOW...
In order to try to satisfy all the ships of the Core 4, they pretty much had to have them both all be endgame and none of them be endgame, and this is how they did it. If they were going to do the multiple universes thing, they should have started that at the VERY beginning of the show and then given us different endings in different universes, where similar things happen in each one, but the characters behave differently depending on their love interests. Then you could have had a 7 season Beronica love story and have them be Endgame in one universe, while doing the same thing with the other ships. But that would have been difficult to write and super challenging to act. Still, just because something is difficult doesn't mean you can't do it & if I was a writer, that's the direction I would have gone.
But you need writers who are great storytellers & are willing to create art & take chances on stories that aren't repetitive, cringeworthy, or made up of tropes. Unfortunately, Riverdale has a reputation for being a shit show & nobody expects anything great. Also, this is supposedly a story about teenagers who don't really appreciate television as art or great storytelling. I'm really sorry these talented actors (Lili especially) got saddled with a show that was so poorly written. Yes, there are some gems here & there, like a few great lines, or a great scene, but you have to wade through so much shit to find them! It seems like the producer / writer is a case of someone who thinks everything he writes is brilliant. It's the Dunning-Kruger Effect: People who are incompetent who perceive themselves to be experts, superior to others, and gifted way beyond the level at which they actually perform.
I am sad, though, that the finale gives us the story of the rest of everyone's life & says that Betty never married, etc. Like, how cool would it be to have had V go to Hollywood, & B join Archie in CA, where they marry, all in the present day. We get to see them happy, but then something happens to Archie and B & V reconnect, pick up where they left off & continue a beautiful, more mature friendship, & this time a romantic relationship develops. Barchie fans got their endgame, but then Beronica fans get theirs. No one is hurt; no one is cheating. But Archie's dead, you say. Is he? Think Tom Hanks in Castaway. What happens if Beronica has been happily married for years and then they discover Archie's alive? THIS is the way you modernize a love triangle story. Not by being trendy & doing all the supernatural shit, super powers, time travel, & other sci-fi elements! If I was making a TV show, I'd want to SET trends, not follow them! But, obviously, you couldn't drag that scenario on for very long and then you're back to the dilemma of angering and breaking the hearts of fans who ship the couple you didn't have as endgame in THAT series! So, I think Archie has to die or already be dead to do this. Hey, they all died at the end of Riverdale! Betty had to mourn the loss of all the people she loved. I'm just looking for a more satisfying endgame for both Barchie fans & Beronica fans.
I still think it would have been great to leave the door open for Camila & Lili to reprise their roles & show us their chemistry as a hot, modern-day couple with a relationship built on a long, loving friendship. Give Barchie fans their endgame in Riverdale, let V go off & start her career, have all 3 living in CA, & then start a new series with Archie dead or missing & B dealing with the grief. That honors that relationship, but it still gives Beronica fans a chance to see THEIR ship be endgame! Oh, God, I wish I could write fiction! I'd so write a TV script for this & pitch it to producers & studios.
Hate to break it to you, but it's already been confirmed they don't leave the 50s, both by all the wardrobe and sets for finale filming, and point blank by Madchen in an interview. These are our characters, sent back in time and with their memories wiped/changed. The comet hit, basically destroyed Riverdale, they all would have died had Tabitha not transported them out and to the 50s, and she took their memories away so it could be bearable for them there/they wouldn't change history with their knowledge of the present. Jughead remembered likely due to his powers involving memories and his experience in other dimensions/role as the narrator.
I agree that Beronica is a complete and utter waste of time and did nothing this episode but take time and focus away from the long standing (and suffering) f/f ship of the show. Like, why did they get a whole long one on one conversation and their own duet and a kiss when Choni did nothing but sway in the background and had to share a duet and didn't even get to actually kiss. It's very annoying, especially since Choni were being written and treated so well before this Beronica plot came out of nowhere and suddenly they've been sidelined again, regulated to quick 30 second scenes with other people, if Toni is even in the episode. Betty and Veronica weren't even believable best friends during the show, let alone girlfriends. The only reason I can imagine it's happening is because Lili is bi irl and RAS would die if he didn't work something from irl into the show in each season, and she probably thought it would be fun. Also, they're clearly having fun playing with all these crackships this season and they'd probably love the opportunity to say they followed through on their pilot queerbait. I assume the whole point is to make bi Betty (and Veronica?) canon, which is also annoying to me because the LGBT characters have suffered so much on this show for being gay but the writers' darling gets to stroll in with 6 episodes left of the show and shoot right to the top of the canon Riverdale LGBT characters list? Wack. Not to mention, Choni and Clevin have been fighting for their lives to be themselves and be together all season while Beronica were giggling about how much easier it is for two boys to be together and talking about experimenting. So unfair and fake.
Love that review, a bresh of fresh air when everyone seem to hate the show at this point (i love it personally, so far the season 7 episodes are all very well done, it's probably the most consistent season)
Jughead and Archie finally had a scene were they actually act like they are life long best friends, you know like they are supposed to be, only took fourteen episodes this season. Jillians actor originally addition to play Archie way back before this show started him playing Archie in the musical is an inside joke about that. Kevins dad probably cheated on his mom since he was the one who set up Kevin to lose his v card to a prostitute, let’s be real it wouldn’t be a stretch for this version of Kevins dad to cheat with that same prostitute.

on a separate note (I wanna put in another comment rather in the other one) was that the comet in the Betty and Veronica kiss? The musical is supposed to take place during senior year and the comet is supposed to come by on senior year right? Maybe Betty and Veronica didn't just imagine themselves kissing in general but saw the future and that is an energy exchange like a cosmic one.

I think the OP may be referring to the shooting star you see behind them. I actually thought of wishing upon a falling star when I saw that, which could mean that you got your wish. That's how I interpreted it. Who knows what the director meant to convey by it. Maybe nothing. Regardless of what it meant, it was a nice touch, esp. with the sound effect. @@finalgirlfriends3753

I agree completely! I just mean in present day! they have a ton of chemistry this season in the 50’s. seasons 1-6 there isn’t romantic chemistry. not because they don’t have chemistry, but because their scenes together aren’t written that way. they have for sure always had the potential though and this season proves that! 😍

You think they always had romantic chemistry in the first 6 seasons? I think Cami & Lili have great chemistry & that was squandered many times over the course of the show by the storylines. I think they have better chemistry than Brittany & Santana, for example, & better chemistry than most movie & TV couples I've seen that are explicitly lesbian. I'm pretty picky about wanting a great LOVE story, not just lots of sex scenes between women or just any story that has 2 characters about whom I don't care & whom I don't find attractive!
Chemistry is super important & Camila & Lili have always had great chemistry! They also look great together! I wish they could have been in a different project where they could have built a deep base of friendship w/ romantic undertones into a fully consumated love story. They were trapped in these roles. Imagine what they could have done if they had had the freedom to play women who love each other deeply (and you can't get a deeper love than sacrificing your life for someone!) as they did in the present timeline AND let them have romantic & sexy scenes. the whole betty and veronica thing its happening because the writers just want to explore every single couple possible , so that everyome is happy at some level, but most of those caouples dont even make sense really, the cool thing for me about betty and veronica is that theyre pretty much fake friends and this just is out of nowhere. i would buy the couple if it were well done but its not.

completely agree with you about beronica! i wouldn’t be as turned off to their relationship being explored in this manner if it wasn’t the last season. atp it just feels like a waste of time and unfair to couples like choni and clevin (choni especially as they’re FINALLY being given proper screen time and good plots)
21:50 Did anyone notice that B's hair is long in the montage & kiss? Look at them before they start singing & at the end of the song. Her hair changes & they are wearing different clothes during the montage, too. At 22:33, Kevin's face doesn't say, "Hold on a minute!" He was just speechless. He didn't SEE them kissing! Everyone in the room could tell something had happened, just as I sit mouth agape every time I watch from the part where they turn & start singing to each other through to the end of the song. In fact, I think Clay spoke too soon & should have let the music die out completely because I didn't want the moment to end & when he speaks, it's so annoyingly disruptive. I feel like, "Don't interrupt! We're (at least **I** am) having a moment here!" I've watched it countless times & still have the same reaction! It's not shock or surprise or even confusion. It's more like WONDER. It's really beautifully done & so intense!

I think we will not see a romantic relationship between Veronica and Betty. I think in this episode they consolidated their frienship so much that it's more like a platonic love and I think their kiss represented that connection.

It was an artistic rendering, not a NASA photo from the James Webb Telescope! Good grief, I'm not gonna take my eyes off two beautiful women as they are so lost in the moment that everything disappears around them & they start kissing for the first time so I can critique special effects! In that moment, they were getting what they were singing about - to be seen & known by another. It was an intense & powerful scene. I'm not going to look at the scenery or inspect the wallpaper when so much is going on between them! @@giada951

Yeah, that was certainly eye candy, but it wasn't earth-moving for them the way the kiss at the end of their "The Universe Inside" duet was! IDK why V kissed B in that situation. What did she think the reaction would be? "Oh! Will you kiss at ALL the school games for us?!" It really was queerbaiting the TV audience. If that kiss had started something in Betty that carried throughout the series, then THAT would have made her relationships with Archie & V a whole lot more complex & interesting, Beronica COULD have been endgame & there would have been time for Archie to find & fall in love with a different woman altogether. I mean, I want Archie to be happy too. So bring in another character for his love interest. Those 2 changes alone could finally sort this whole thing out in a contemporary way that gives all 3 a happy ending! And then you don't have to make so many other characters on the canvas LGB! Good grief. That is overkill even for me. I mean, how many women on that show have kissed other women? B, V, & Cheryl have all kissed each other & various incarnations of Madeleine's characters have kissed several women characters. That's all gratuitous. I think THAT is exploitative.
